I knew bad luck was just around the corner.
I had never had an actual good Rainbow Lunar Phase. I mean I never got horrible luck, but something insane was always happening around me. This time I was sure I would be the bad luck.
“Are you sure you don’t want to run and hide from me while you still can?” I asked.
“Chloey come on, even if you do get the bad luck, it’s only for three days. That’s nothing, I will deal.”
“Do you think you’ll get bad luck?”
“I don’t know. My life lately has been a series of good luck, why shouldn’t it continue?”
“I didn’t think about it that way.”
“I’m more positive than you are.” Rune smiled.
“True enough,” I smiled. “I love you, Rune.”
“I love you too, Chloey. More than anything.”
“Even if I have the worst luck these next few days.”
“Especially if you do.”
--
I woke up to the sound of gagging.
I looked next to me and saw that Rune wasn’t in bed. He was in the bathroom vomiting profusely. I got up and knocked on the door.
“Babe, are you okay?” I asked.
“Fine!” He choked out. “Guess I got the bad luck!”
“You want some Bubble Fizz?”
“I’m fine, Chloey, you can just go to breakfast without me. I think I’m gonna skip classes today.”
“Okay, I’ll come check on you at lunch!” I called. “I’ll go shower in my room!”
“See you later, I love you!”
“Love you too!”
--
I felt horrible about leaving Rune alone when he clearly felt horrible, but there was nothing else to be done. Considering nothing terrible had happened to me, I knew I was going to have a great Rainbow Lunar Phase.
Joey and Marsden were definitely having the best day out of everyone else. They were continuously smiling and kissing. I wanted to be that way with Rune.
Zoey and Tate however were having the worst luck. I swear they’d been to the Infirmary five times and it wasn’t even lunch yet!
I got something quick for lunch before heading back to Rune’s room. He was in bed asleep. It was strange, but he was snoring in a way he never had before. His back was to me. I gently shook him.
He twitched before pulling the covers over him completely. “Chloey?”
“Yeah, I’m just checking on you,” I said softly. “Are you okay?”
“I’m tired, please…um I’m sorry, babe you should go. I don’t feel well.”
“We could cuddle,” I offered.
“No!” He practically roared. “Just go Chloey, I can handle this!”
“Oh…okay. I’m sorry.” I whispered before leaving.
Was the Rainbow Moon making Rune hate me?
--
“He doesn’t hate you!” Simone exclaimed. “Rune is touchy sometimes, especially when he’s sick. He’s so dramatic. He was probably so tired.”
“I agree,” Ember said. “He probably just feels like s**t and doesn’t want you to see him like that.”
“I just feel so bad that he’s having a horrible Rainbow Lunar Phase. I want to make it better.” I pouted.
“You can’t compete with the moon, Chloey,” Simone snorted. “Just let it run its course for these three days and everything will be fine.”
“Yeah you guys are right, I just miss him so much.”
“Go see him after dinner. I’m sure he’ll feel more well rested by then.” Ember suggested.
“I will do that,” I smiled. “Thanks you guys make me feel so much better.”
“This sounds horrible, but I’m kind of glad Rune is having a bad Rainbow Lunar Phase. It’s nice hanging out with you again.” Simone gently nudged me. “You and your sisters have been completely caught up in your relationships…and drowning Lavina Stone.”
“That horrid girl,” I shook my head. I groaned suddenly, seeing Cade approach us.
“Hello ladies,” He smiled.
“Didn’t Joey tell you to stay away from me?” I asked.
“Sure, but she’s having a phenomenal Rainbow Lunar Phase and she wouldn’t get into a fight and ruin that. And Rune is obviously having a bad one. So, I’m taking this opportunity.”
“To do what?” I asked.
“To get back what we had. I have really good luck.” Cade stated.
“Not that good of luck, darling,” I laughed. “I still love Rune.”
He frowned. “But you’re supposed to love me.”
“Yeah and you’re not supposed to lie to your girlfriend, but here we are. Speaking of girlfriends, where is Raina?”
“She’s had bad luck so I’m staying away from her.”
“You’re horrible.” Simone stated.
“What? All the couples who are having opposing lucks are doing it! Even Chloey is staying away from Rune.”
“I am not! I’ve seen him multiple times today, he’s just napping!” I exclaimed. “Now Cade, please go away before I have Joey deal with you after these three days are over when she won’t care about fighting anymore.”
Cade huffed. “Fine, but I’m not giving up!”
“This is harassment!” I called after him.
He pretended he didn’t hear me and kept walking.
Sometimes I wish I had never dated him.
--
I decided not to take Ember’s advice about going to see Rune after dinner.
I wanted to give as much space as possible so that when I saw him he wouldn’t feel suffocated at all.
When I entered his room he was nowhere to be found. The bathroom door was closed and I could hear clattering in there.
“Rune?” I asked. “Are you okay?”
“Chloey go!” He yelled. “You can’t be here!”
“Are you mad at me?” I asked.
“No, just go!”
I sighed and walked out, completely confused.
--
“Maybe he got a bad breakout?” Joey asked. “And he doesn't want you to see how strange he looks?”
“Rune knows I don’t care about that stuff.”
“Sure, but that wouldn’t make him any less insecure,” Marsden pointed out. “If I suddenly looked ugly, I wouldn’t want Joey to see me either.”
“That’s fair, I guess. But I want to see him. I don’t want him to feel alone.” I sighed.
“Look, the Rainbow Lunar Phase is almost over,” Joey stated. “Just wait until tomorrow or something and I’m sure he’ll be back to normal. He’ll be all over you because he missed you so much.”
“Yeah, I guess so. You know for supposed to be having good luck this Rainbow Lunar Phase, I sure haven’t been having as good of a time as everyone else.”
“Maybe your good luck is just that there’s no bad luck?” Marsden offered. “I mean no bad luck is good luck.”
“You guys are insanely lucky. I mean everything has worked out for you, right?” I asked.
“Oh yeah,” Joey nodded. “Literally everything. It’s kinda insane.”
“But good,” Marsden nodded.
Zander sat down and joined us. He seemed a little off.
“You okay?” I asked.
“Well I just witnessed the break up of Zoey and Tate, so I don’t think so.”
My jaw dropped. “Break up?!”
“Oh they’ve been having a horrible Rainbow Lunar Phase, I guess it really got to them. Tate saw me and Zoey hugging and kind of lost his mind. Zoey broke up with him and just walked off, it was crazy.”
“I hope she’s okay,” Joey frowned. “I’ll check on her tomorrow when the bad luck ends.”
“We don’t think it’s gonna stick do we?” Marsden asked. “Those two are made for each other. No offense, Zander.”
“None taken. Zo and I were never meant to be, honestly. We both know that now.” Zander admitted.
“Yeah, her and Tate are soulmates even though he gets on my nerves.” Joey agreed.
I missed my soulmate.
--
I just couldn’t stand being away from Rune any longer. I had to know if he was okay.
Literally no one had seen him since the Rainbow Moon rose. I was hoping since it was so close to being gone that he would just let me see him.
I burst into his room and once again it seemed he was in the bathroom. As I closed his bedroom door, the bathroom door opened. I looked over and screamed.
There was a brown hairy beast standing in front me.
“Shh! Chloey it's me!” The beast spoke.
“Rune?!”
