Joey’s POV
I was more than excited for the last trip into town the day before graduation.
One more fun night before this was all over.
I had enjoyed this year much more than I thought I would for completely different reasons. I thought I would be going through guys like days of the week and getting into silly fights with girls over them even though I didn’t care.
I never thought I’d fall in love.
Especially not with Marsden Thorton. He was just some boy I had read about in the paper who had come from a troubled family just like I did. I never thought he would mean anything to me. He was just supposed to be a conquest. Another notch on my very long belt.
And then he became everything to me.
How the hell did that happen?
--
“Woah…Joey you look amazing!”
“What, this old thing?” I laughed as I twirled.
I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror. My red silk dress was hugging my body in all the right places and my hair looked flawless as it cascaded down on my shoulders. I sure did look amazing.
Marsden walked towards me, slipping his hands around my waist. “There is no one on the planet more beautiful than you are.”
“And there’s no one more handsome,” I whispered before kissing him.
“I want tonight to be really special.”
“So do I. I want it to be the most fun night we ever have.”
“It will be. It’ll be a night we’ll never forget.”
--
We all walked over to Obsidian together. There was such a happy energy in the air. We were all so excited for graduation the next day.
“You and Marsden seem good,” Zoey whispered to me.
“Of course we are, why wouldn’t we be?” I asked.
“No reason, I just thought he was hiding something from you?”
“You were wrong. Marsden doesn’t keep things from me.”
“If you say so,” Zoey murmured.
Why was I letting her get under my skin?
Marsden squeezed my hand. “Is everything okay babe?”
“Of course,” I forced a smile.
I glanced over at Chloey and Rune to see Rune nervously looking up at the sky as though the full moon would pop out at any moment.
I then looked at Marsden.
Was he keeping something from me?
--
There was an air of distraction around Marsden tonight that I couldn’t describe. Sure he was attentive and dancing with me, but something still seemed a little off.
Maybe Zoey was right and he was hiding something.
I saw him across the room talking to Keene. I walked over to them as they hissed and whispered.
“Hey guys, what’s up?” I asked.
“Nothing,” They said in unison. “Just talking.”
“About what?”
“It’s nothing Jo.” Marsden insisted.
“If you say so.” I said slowly.
I knew they were both lying, but maybe now wasn’t the time to talk about it. This was supposed to be fun.
“Dance with me Mars?” I asked.
A smile came across his face. “Of course my love.”
I pulled him out onto the dance floor. Our bodies moved in sync to the loud the music. Little sparks danced around the room, making different shapes.
I looked around at all the couples and wondered if they were as in love as me and Marsden were.
“Babe I’ll be right back, okay?” Marsden whispered. “I’m sorry.”
He hurried away before I could say anything.
Okay now I was getting annoyed.
I followed him and found him and Keene whispering once again.
“Alright, what the hell is going on?” I demanded.
“It’s um…it’s nothing Joey.” Marsden stammered unconvincingly.
“You’re keeping something from me!” I yelled. “I know it! I can tell, Mars. We don’t do this, we don’t keep things from each other!”
“Joey, don’t cause a scene,” Keene urged. “It’s nothing, okay?”
“I’ve done so much for you two and now you’re lying to my face!”
“What’s going on?” Chloey approached us. “Joey, are you okay?”
“No, I’m not. I’m leaving.” I stalked away.
“Joey!” Marsden called after me as I weaved through the crowd.
I felt relief as I breathed in the warm air.
I heard Marsden’s voice behind me but completely ignored it. I wasn’t in the mood to hear lies from the boy I had completely changed my life for.
“Joey Anastasia Rosaria!”
I gasped loudly before turning around to face Marsden. “How f*****g dare you?!”
“You’re acting like a lunatic!” He informed me.
“And you’re lying to me!”
“Fine, I am! But I have a damn good reason.”
“Why don’t I believe you?”
Marsden finally grabbed my hand and pulled me close.
I widen my eyes as he dropped to one knee and pulled a velvet box out of his hand
“Joey Anastasia Rosaria…will you marry me?”
Zoey’s POV
I’m kind of a bad sister.
I should not be meddling in Joey’s relationship once again, but I just couldn’t help it! Marsden was so clearly up to something once again and the fact that she didn’t seem to be in on it was strange.
It scared me a little bit. What he was doing had to be really bad in order for him to be keeping it from her. What if he had something horrible planned for graduation? What if there was another explosion or something?
I knew if anyone could stop him from doing something horrible it was Joey. He loved her more than anything and surely he would listen to her.
“What did Joey say?” Tate asked.
“She said I was wrong and that Marsden doesn’t hide things from her.”
“What do you think?”
“I don’t know. It was really weird, but maybe she’s right. I mean she does know Marsden better than anyone else.” I shrugged.
“Hey Zo!”
I could see Tate physically tense as Zander made his way over to us. Tate wasn’t thrilled that Zander and I were kind of friends now, but he kept his jealousy under control.
“Hey, Zander,” I smiled. “Where’s Charleen?”
“Getting a drink, she’s celebrating hard tonight.” He laughed. “Tate good to see you.”
“Yeah you too. What brings you over?” Tate asked.
“Just wanted to say hi. And Zoey, I just really need to tell you something. Can we talk?”
I glanced at Tate who hesitantly nodded. I followed Zander out to the patio and we leaned on the wall.
I realized this was where Tate and I had our first kiss.
“I know this is kinda weird,” Zander finally spoke.
“A little bit,” I chuckled.
“Charleen told me she loves me.”
“Oh. That's great right?”
“I couldn't say it back,” He whispered. “I wanted to, but I don't know if I'm there yet.”
“Is she okay with that?” I questioned.
“Yeah actually she is. She said she understands that not everyone falls in love at the same time.”
“And you’re telling me…”
“Because I'm sorry. I threw a fit when you didn't love me back and basically thought because I was in love you would be in love with me. I convinced myself that you didn't care about our relationship and I know that wasn't true.”
“I'm glad. I really cared about you and our relationship meant everything to me.” I smiled.
“You were the first girl I fell in love with and I didn't know how to handle you not loving me back.” Zander admitted.
“I get it, Zander. We had a very intense relationship and there were so many emotions and feelings wrapped up in it. And the way it ended was definitely insane.”
“Yeah. I'm grateful for it though. You taught me so much, Zoey. Thank you.”
“We’re always going to be connected, Zander. I mean a girl never forgets her first time.” I smirked.
“A guy never forgets his first love.” Zander grinned before hugging me. “Thanks for talking to me. I should go find Charleen.”
“Get outta here.” I giggled.
As he went back in Tate came out. “What was that about?”
“Zander was just apologizing and thanking me for our relationship.”
“That's kind of nice.”
“Definitely,” I nodded. “Recognize this wall?”
Tate smiled widely. “I kissed the love of my life for the first time here.”
“You should kiss her again.”
Tate pulled me to him and kissed me. I still remember the insane feeling I had when he first kissed me. I never expected things to play out the way they did.
“I love you Zoey.” Tate whispered.
“I love you too. Let's dance!”
I pulled him into the club. I saw Joey and Marsden arguing. Chloey and Keene were with them. Joey stormed out and I couldn't help but smile.
Maybe my sister was finally done with Marsden Thorton.
Chloey's POV
I kind of liked clubs now.
They were loud, but so fun and knowing the next day my life was going to change made me want to drink and dance the night away.
Rune was kind of nervous on the other hand.
“What if the moon comes out?” He asked as we got ready.
“It won't, Rune. We literally just had a full moon, everything will be fine.”
“Something doesn't feel right, Chlo.”
“Babe, it's just Obsidian. We've been there a ton of times. The worst thing that's ever happened is that you kissed Lavina Stone.”
“Most idiotic night of my life,” Rune shook his head. “You really think everything will be fine?”
“Yeah of course.” I nodded. “It will be the most fun night ever.”
--
Rune continued to be anxious, but he was still trying to have fun. His eyes darted around quickly as though waiting for someone to announce that he's a werewolf or something.
“Please just have some fun!” I begged.
“I’m trying! It just smells so weird in here. And you know I can see everything clearly.”
“Why can't you being carefree be one of your side effects?”
“I'm sorry. Let me go to the restroom and then I will be different, I swear.” Rune kissed me before walking off.
I decided to find my sisters and see what they were up to. Joey was yelling at Marsden claiming he was keeping something from her.
She left and he followed her out.
“What’s going on?” I asked Keene.
“I’m not getting involved.” He shrugged.
“Chloey, can I talk to you?” Cade asked from behind me.
“Cade…”
“Please, Chloey. We’re graduating tomorrow.”
“Fine.”
“I wanted to apologize for how I’ve acted. I’ve been kind of insane and you don’t deserve that. I just really love you and I can’t believe I f****d it up.”
I sighed. “It's okay, Cade. We weren’t meant to be. I just hope you find another girl to love. Minus the lie, you were a great boyfriend.”
“You’re the best girlfriend.” Cade stated.
We looked at each other and then he kissed me.
Before I could even push him away, he was being torn away from me.
“What are you doing?” Rune roared.
“We were having a conversation!” Cade shoved him.
“You were kissing my girlfriend!”
“I was reminding her how good she had it with me.”
Rune had never been more furious. Was he…snarling? And his eyes were glowing. Was something about to happen?
“Stay away from Chloey!!” Rune growled.
Oh goodness, I think he’s about to transform!
I got between Rune and Cade.
“Rune, I need you to calm down!” I cried.
“I’m going to kill him!”
“Cade go now!” I yelled.
“Chlo-”
“I’m serious, go!” I put my hands on Rune’s face as Cade hurried off. “Please be calm!”
“I can’t control it Chloey!” He panted.
I had to think quickly. I stuck my hand in the air and made all the lights go out.
Everyone screamed and cried out. I could feel myself being pushed through the crowd.
The lights came back on and someone screamed.
“Werewolf!”
