Chapter 6

2829 Words
Jace’s POV If Kyle tried anything with Mika I wouldn’t hesitate to rip his arms off for touching her. It is weird having a sister who is old enough to attract male attention. Kayla is twelve and at least I know she is waiting for her mate, at least that is what Dad and I drove into her head.  Our parents have explained what the mate bond feels like a thousand times.  “Since you’re here, I think I will be heading back home.” Kyle said and before Mika or I could say anything he disappeared.  “Why were you walking around the woods?” I asked Mika, the question sounding more like a command.  “Truth or Lie?” Mika asked and crossed her arms over her chest.  “The truth.” “I wanted to get away from everyone. I feel fine. I don’t need you guys to watch over me all day and night.” Mika huffed and then just burst out laughing. There were tears in her eyes as she laughed and her arms moved down to her stomach as she bent down. Talk about strange.  “Mika?” “I was just thinking –“ Mika said between breaths. “I don’t belong here. I get that we are twins, but other than you, there is no reason for me to be here. I am not like you or them.” She pointed towards the general direction of the pack.  “So what? You want to pack your bags and leave?” I asked and took a step closer to her. “No, I am just going to leave.” Mika said, then turned back around the way she was walking from. “Goodbye Jace, tell my dad I love him.” “Over my dead body are you  leaving.” I growled before I launched after her. She sidestepped before I got to her and faced me.  “Jace please, I need to leave before I get hurt. I don’t belong here.” Mika said as she raised her hands as if she was preparing for an attack.  “No, if you won’t come with me while now I will drag you back to the pack and then you will have round the clock detail of warriors watching your every move.” I threatened and started thinking about which of our pack warriors will be suited to looking after her.  “How about this, first one to get the other on the ground three times wins and the winner gets to decide what happens with MY future.” Mika said, a glint in her eye and the way the sides of her lips curled up suggested that she thought she will win. That might have been true if she had werewolf strength and been training as long as I have.  “Fine.”  I agreed to the match.  Mika and I circled each other for a bit, when all of a sudden she stopped and tilted her head to the side. “Are you going to make a move anytime soon?”  “I always thought it was ladies first.” I replied.  Mika tsked and shook her head. “Just like a man to say ladies first when it suits him. I just never thought that my brother would be like that.” I took three quick steps towards Mika and attempted to throw her over my back but instead she found a way to do a double flip. I was flat on my back with Mika standing over me and grinning.  “How did you do that?” I asked her as I got up.  “When you had me over your shoulder you bent back so I used that to my advantage and used your own weight and move against you. It wasn’t hard.” Mika explained and then got ready for my next attack. I know she had already won, but I can’t let her leave just like this. So no taking it easy on her, Mika is smart and she will use that to her advantage. She might not be strong and as fast as me, but she is observant and apparently knows how to take care of herself.  All of a sudden a few members from the pack made their way to us. They gathered around us to watch the fight. That is if we could call it a fight.  “Mika! What is going on here?” Killian demanded to know as he made his way to us.  Mika cringed when she saw her father, then she glared at me. As if to say that it is all my fault that she will never be able to escape this place, especially if I tell the others.  I watched as Mika made her way to me and the fight really began. She punched my nose, then managed to land a swift kick just under my ribs. After stumbling a bit I somehow managed to dodge her next attack and got behind her and  wrapped my arms around her and held her tight, silently begging her to stop.  Mika didn’t seem to let that stop her, although her arms were plastered to her sides because of  the way I held her from behind. She managed to knock my chin with her head, then moved her waist slightly so that she could drive her elbow to my stomach. I let go of her, because I was more scared that she would injure herself.  “Let’s stop this now Mika.” I shouted so that she and the rest of the pack, for miles, could hear.  “I can’t.”  Those simple words felt more like she told me a complex sentence in Ancient Egyptian “Why the heck is that?” My father asked.  When did my father get here? Mika stopped moving. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath. When she opened her eyes again, they seemed to be glowing.  Her wolf was near the surface. It looked like her wolf was encouraging the fight to go on. The shift may be upon her again.  Mika’s POV I could feel her.  I can feel my wolf. She is not coming out for me.  No, she is coming out for my mate. Being near my mate had reawakened her somehow. I am surrounded by pack how will I know which one of them is my mate.  We will know. He held us.  A voice said in my head. It was the first time I ever heard her speaking, but I instinctively knew who she was.  I looked around at everyone gathered around Jace and me, searching for him. My mate is near me.  Wait, he held us? Yessss. I put in a silent wish that it was not who I thought it was.  My wolf and I became more focused on the fight now. For some reason, I felt slightly threatened by Jace. I needed to make sure he knows who is more dominant between the two of us.  That in itself is a funny thing to think of as he is the one being groomed to take over. “Mika?” Jace asked as he stepped towards me with his hands up in surrender. “What is going on?” I didn’t answer him, instead I charged towards him and flipped him on to his back. I dug my knee into his chest and growled. “If I knock you down one more time I win, do you want to surrender now?” My voice didn't sound like my own, but it was me who was speaking. That much I knew.  “Mika stop this now!” My father yelled, but I ignored him.  He tried to approach me but I let out a low growl that seemed to stop him in his tracks.  I could hear Alex talking to my father, he was trying to explain what was happening to me now.  “I surrender.”Jace said and then shifted into his black wolf form. I grinned in victory and let out a howl, even to my own ears it sounded like it oozed authority.  All of the pack members immediately shipped and howled along with me. I couldn’t help but think that they probably keep aside a huge budget for their clothing.  The only person who didn’t shift was Skye and Alex and then my eyes found their way to where Kyle was standing. He was behind everyone else and his gaze was serious, while the rest of the pack seemed to submit to probably the weakest person in their pack. He stood tall and held my gaze, before he tipped his head towards me and then walked off.  What is going on? The question floated around in my head and I was not expecting any answers. Not only have you got Alpha blood in you, but you are something of a princess.     My wolf said.  You might be weak now but you hold strength that could either destroy or save the world.  No pressure there.   This is definitely not how I expected my month to go.  All the wolves had their heads tipped down after everything quietened down Jace let out a howl of his own that the rest of the wolves followed. For the first time in forever I felt a part of something more.  I felt like I was finally home.   The only problem with feeling like I was finally home, was the fact that I also felt like I lost the one man I was waiting for my entire life.  It must be Kyle. Kyle is my mate and he wants nothing to do with me.  I have gained a family and in return I have lost the love of my life. This is how fair life could be. I wish someone would have warned me that when I gain one thing I would lose something else. The pack started dispersing; some shifted back and got dressed again, while others went for a run. It sounded like they were happy. They were cheering and howling in excitement. It made me smile.  I might never understand why things happen the way they do, but some things just feel like they are meant to happen.  Everything was great, until I heard a growl and all hell broke loose.  Someone ran out from the forest and looked like he had been put through a lot. “The vampires are here!” He shouted, sounding more out of breath than he should be.  Before long the pack was running rampant. No one knew how to react. Three of the pack warriors made their way to me. They were put in charge of guarding me. I felt someone place something in my hand that felt a lot like a knife. I looked up and saw it was Alex. His gaze was focused on the woods. They darkened and a sound that sounded like a growl escaped his lips.  My wolf was fighting for a shift but for some reason, I still couldn’t shift.  We need our mate.     My wolf said, her frustration echoed my own.  Why do I need my mate to shift? Our situation is different from other wolves because of who you are and you were born to be.  My wolf replied.  Not cryptic at all. I huffed when I saw the blurs move around the woods around us.  I thought vampires only came out at night. The sun has not even really set yet.  Yes, but the clouds are dark and the sun is out of sight. They are safe to come out and the pack is in trouble. Not if I can help it.  The vampires started attacking and I prayed for the pack’s safety. The pack warriors around me fought, but there were at least fifty vampires here.  Alex fought with us and although he held his own well, there was no way we were going to make it out of this alive. I was thrown back by a blur and felt my spine connect with a tree. I screamed, but no one came. Everyone was too busy fighting for their own lives.  I fell to the ground and fought back the tears. I was in so much pain.  A vampire, the first I have ever seen, made his way to me. He lifted me up by the neck and flashed his fangs at me. He licked his lips and was about to take a nice big juicy bite out of my neck when I jammed the knife into his neck right to the hilt.  He let go of me and stumbled back, but he wasn’t done with me, not by a long shot. He pulled the knife out of his neck and I watched as blood spilled out from his neck.  He dashed towards me again, he was so fast that all I managed to see was a blur. Again he grabbed my neck and lifted me up that I struggled to stand on my toes.  I needed to do something. Anything to get out of this. I pushed my fingers into his neck that was still busy healing and felt his blood connect to me. I saw his memories as a human. I saw him as the person he was before and felt my heart broke for him as I saw his transformation and all that he has done since then. I wish more than anything that I could help him.  I am not sure what I did, but I felt every vein, nerve and blood cell in his body and found a part of him that I could connect to and make him feel my presence inside of him. I connected to a part of him that was still human. I reminded him of his humanity.  He pulled away from me and I saw him as a man instead of the vampire that he is. A man with sandy brown hair and red eyes, his skin so pale that it was almost translucent. His fangs retracted and he looked up at me in shock.  Then his humanity seemed to disappear again. And he lunged towards me, but before he reached me he was launched into the air and thrown back.  Kyle stood before me and he held out a sword in front of him, he was still shirtless and when he looked at me I saw anger and lust dance around in his eyes.  Mate!   My wolf howled.  I felt my heart pound away against my ribs.  “Are you alright?” He asked, his voice sounded rough and slightly strained.  I only managed to nod. “Good. Stay behind me.” he commanded and raised his sword and got into a defensive position.  I did as he said.  As my wolf rejoiced for finding our mate, her mate, I felt my heart begin to break. He practically said so himself. There is absolutely no chance in the entire universe that we will ever get together.  As over two dozen vampires made themselves known in front of us, I sensed more than saw and heard the pack come up behind Kyle and I. They were ready for a fight.  Although we had more than fifty wolves on our side against the vampires, I still felt as though we were outnumbered. The vampires were not only strong but they moved fast.  A woman stepped out in front of the other vampires. She was clapping her hands, almost as though she was applauding the battle between the vampires and werewolves.  “I must say, this was very entertaining, but I have not come to see the pack.” The woman said, her eyes were violet and her hair long and black and fell in waves down to her hips.  “Who are you?” I asked my question came out so soft that I wasn’t sure if she heard me.  “Dear, you should learn to speak up. I must admit the whole reason for all this drama today was because of you. My seer spoke of you and I felt it necessary to meet you.” She said. Instead of answering my question, she just left me with more questions.  “Who.Are.You? '' I asked again, this time I spoke loud and punctuated each word. I stepped beside Kyle and raised my head as I spoke. My little act of defiance and strength seemed to amuse her.  “I am your worst nightmare, but you can call me Cassandra.” She answered and her violet eyes became a deep red. I am in so much trouble.
