Chapter 16

Chapter 16 Mika’s POV  Everything hurts.  Amy. Where is she?  I know I have been sleeping on concrete for a while, but this does not feel like what I have gotten used to. It is soft, but firm and warm. And it feels like a damn bed, a really comfortable one, although I can’t tell the difference anymore.  “Call Jax, she is waking up.” A soft feminine voice said. Whoever this girl is she sounds pretty young.  Maybe she is round about my age.  I managed to open my eyes, but immediately shut them closed again. “Please, turn off the lights.” I heard a bit of rustling about. And when things seemed to get a bit darker I opened my eyes again. This time it was better. I have become accustomed to the dark.  “Good to see you are up. You gave us all a scare.” The girl said. I turned to face her and noticed that she had a caramel complexion, her reddish brown hair is long and hung lose around her shoulders. She is pretty with her innocent brown eyes framed by long eyelashes and perfectly arched eyebrows. I could tell she was not wearing any make-up.  It is rare when you will meet someone who is a natural beauty like this. I should know. I have moved around a lot and have met many fakes in my lifetime. And I am just eighteen.  I was letting my thoughts drift away.  What is wrong with me? I jumped up from bed and noticed that I was naked underneath the sheet. So I pulled it up to cover me as a tall imposing male stepped into the room and glared at me. This man had olive skin and looked like he has been through hell. A long scar, that looked like an old knife wound, was across the left side of his face from his forehead over his eye and ended by his jaw.  This man is definitely not a wolf. He doesn’t smell like any of the other wolves I have been with for the past few months. Has it been nearly a year now? He grimaced when he noticed me staring at his scar. “Are you done staring?’ he growled and I felt ashamed that he caught me staring, though it wasn’t like I was hiding it.  “Sorry.” I said quickly, then remembered I had no idea where Amy was. “Where is the girl? Where is Amy?”  “Relax.  She is fine. While you have been out, she told us what you two have been through.” The man said.  “Mika.” He said my name and for some reason it seemed more like he was testing it more than anything. The question is, what is he testing my name out for? “Looks like we are at a disadvantage, you know my name but I don’t know yours nor do I know where I am.” The last part I said softly and looked around at my surroundings while holding the sheet tighter around my body.  “Jax, I am the Alpha of this pride.”  I felt my knees give in as I felt a sense of relief for the first time in a long time. I would have hit the ground if Jax didn’t reach out in time to catch me.  “Easy now.” Jax said as he moved me towards the bed so that I could down again. “Reynia over here will fetch you some clothes and get you some food. While you’re at it I think you should go shower too. When you’re done, Reynia will bring you to me so you can tell me everything that happened.” The fact that he told me I needed to shower didn’t bother me. I really do smell bad.  “Why do you need me to tell you what happened when Amy already did?” I asked, right after Reynia left the room. Hopefully fetching me a change of clothes I feel vulnerable now more than I did when I was in a cage with vampires beating me up every day.  “Amy is a child. She told me what happened to her and how you two escaped. I want to know if I should carry on allowing you a safe haven here or kick you out of here as soon as possible.” Jax said, his voice sounded dangerously low and menacing. “I need to protect my Pride.” I know I should have been scared of him, but I wasn’t. I just glared at him and then flashed him a smile. I really need to brush my teeth as well. My breath stinks.  “There is a bathroom down the hall and fresh towels in the cupboard in the passage way. There are also brand new toothbrushes in the underneath the medicine cabinet.” Jax said then walked out.  I wonder if he would let me call Kyle once I answered all his questions. I hope he does. I need to hear my mate’s voice. It has been too long. I have been too long away from him.  Once I was refreshed, clothed and fed Reynia took me to Jax. He was busy chatting with some teens. They looked to be sixteen and to be in a bit of trouble. One of them was a boy who was taller than the others, smirked at me and then licked his lips. That jerk.  Jax saw what the boy did and looked like he was going to wallop him for not paying attention.  “Gross, I think you should apologize to me.” I told the boy. I narrowed my eyes as he brushed me off. Jax didn’t look too impressed with the boy.  “Did I offend you princess?” he asked in a tone that sounded more arrogant than an Alpha.  “Zander!” Jax growled out. Now if I really look at the two they look like they could be related. “Reynia, get Mika to my office. I need to deal with Zander over here.” Jax sounded a bit frustrated.  The look Jax gave Reynia was tender. There is definitely something between the two.  “Jax can I be the one to teach him a lesson?” I asked before I could stop the words from flying out of my mouth. I really need a filter. I have been in captivity for too long. I have been unable to fight back. I need  this.  Jax took a moment to think about it. “Zander is being trained by our top warriors to fight. I don’t think that is such a good idea. You just woke up from your four day nap.”  “Exactly. I need this.” My words came out as a plea. I really did need this. I need to feel something other than helpless and weak. “If I beat him in a fight, I want to make a phone call.” “Who do you want to call?” Jax asked immediately. He must be worried that I am actually some kind of spy or something. He has every right to be suspicious. He doesn’t know anything about me aside from what Amy told him.  “My mate. I need to hear his voice.” My voice cracked slightly and I felt like I wanted to cry.  Jax regarded me for a second and then nodded his head. “This should be interesting.”  Zander and I made our way outside. He rushed to attack me and I dodged him easily enough. But my side hurt and I had to bite back a wince. He attacked again, this time his attack came slower but was directed at my ribs. I screamed and his smirk actually vanished.  So this boy might not be so bad after all. That doesn’t mean I am going to take it easy on him.  I took a deep breath and forced my body to forget about the pain and to focus on the fight. When he attacked again with a kick aimed at my head I blocked him and used the palm of my hand to break his nose. I spun around and drove my elbow into his chest, my back was to his chest. He wrapped one arm around my neck and had a hand behind my head.  This is what I wanted.  I bent forward and used his weight against him and flipped him over. He went flat on his back and he flashed me a grin.  “Must say I did not expect that.” Zander said and then got up and held a hand out to me.  I shook his hand and grinned back.  “Mika?” That voice.  The voice I have been longing to hear.  The tears I have been holding back escaped my eyes. And I started to cry as I searched for the owner of that voice. I saw Kyle a short distance away from me and ran to him. He caught me in his arms and lifted me up. He buried his nose in my hair. I wrapped my legs around his waist and kissed him all over his face. “I missed you.” I cried.  “Kyle, should have known that the stray we found belongs to you.” Jax said.  Kyle growled at Jax but didn’t respond. “I thought the worst, I missed you my love.”  He kissed me and I swore I heard someone clearing their throat but I ignored it. Kyle’s kiss was hard and forceful. We both needed this. We both needed to make sure this is real.  “Can I get a chance to greet my sister?”  Jace?  Jace is also here. I pulled away from Kyle and noticed Jace standing right behind him.  Kyle reluctantly put me down and I was quickly pulled into a hug by Jace. His familiar scent made me cry even more. His eyes were hard and dark.  “I think we should go to my office now.” Jax said, this time it was a command and since we are on his land, it is only right that we listen to him.  After explaining everything to Jax, from my capture by the vampires to my escape with help from the same vampire who kidn*pped me Jax looked like he was ready to kill someone.  Kyle told Jax that he would be visiting the Pride along with Jace. I don’t know why he didn’t just ask Jax over the phone if any young maidens found their way to his Pride.  Jax was livid when he found out what they did to me and Amy. I am pretty sure that he would wage war against the vampires if he knew it wasn’t going to be a mass suicide. “We should be leaving.” Kyle said as he stood up. He had not let go of my hand since we got here.  “Nonsense, you travelled the whole day already. Get some rest and tomorrow you can leave.” Jax said.  “Wait, what about Amy?” I asked. “She can’t come with us. Our pack is going to be the grounds to a battle soon.” Jax nodded. “You want to leave her here?”  “She has no one, get her adopted into a good family in your pride. She deserves some good fortune in her life.” I said in answer to his question. I didn’t just want to leave her here so that she could be passed on from family to family. Even if it is within the Pride.  Jax smiled at me. “I will make sure she is put in with a great family. Though she and Reynia have gotten close in the last few days, it won’t be easy separating the two.” “Then don’t separate them.” I said. A thought crossed my mind. “Why aren’t you with your mate?” I asked suddenly. I really do need a filter.  “She told you.” He said flatly.  “No, she didn’t. Why aren’t you with Reynia?” I asked again.  “I already have an agreement to mate with another from a Pride slightly weaker than my own it was arranged years ago, to create an alliance, long before I found out my mate is right here.” Jax sighed.  “Don’t go through with it.  There is more than one way to form an alliance. Your Pride will suffer if you are not with your mate.” I told him.  Kyle squeezed my hand tighter. We have been through a lot. I know what I am talking about.  Jax smirked. “You’re right.” He was out the door way before us and I couldn’t help grinning like a fool.  “You just had to play match-maker.” Kyle said as he kissed the tip of my nose.  “More like match-maker’s assistant.” I grinned at him.  In this moment, nothing could go wrong.
