Chapter 15

Chapter 15  Kyle’s POV It has been weeks since Mika was taken and still we are no closer to finding her. Each time we got close her scent disappears. So many times we have gotten close to finding her but we were always a little too late or they had found a way to trick us.  We all look rugged. If not for Skye forcing me to take naps I am sure I would never have slept at all till I had Mika back in my arms. Not much frightens me, but Skye can seem a bit scary when she is being motherly.  She reminded me that I need to keep up my strength if I have any hope of finding Mika. She also said that the pack would be more willing to work harder at finding Mika if I didn’t spend half my time growling at everyone. I had scared quite a few pack members to go visit other packs for the time being.  Jace and Killian haven’t been much better than me. Three days ago he just went ballistic. I was close to losing it as well. Three days ago was the worst. I had found Mika’s wedding dress and it was bloody and ruined. We found it in a dumpster along with clothes that looked to fit a small girl. We tracked her scent to a motel room and from there we couldn’t find anything else.  Killian lost it.  The receptionist at the motel was no help at all. Killian nearly shifted in front of him. We rushed Killian outside and he punched a hole through a wall and his eyes shifted to his wolf eyes. I have never heard of a wolf only partly shifting before but when I saw the claws instead of hands I knew we were in trouble.  As much as I can’t lose Mika, neither could he. It would kill both of us.  He kept repeating that he should have protected her better.  Alex was called and he forced Killian into a deep sleep. A deep sleep that resembled a coma and in all honesty made me wonder if this is the way things are now with lycan kind. Outbursts of emotion and power can happen and will happen but the person who is doing the out bursting needs to be put under to make sure no one gets hurt or suffers from said outburst.  When Killian finally woke up an hour ago and apologized for his, very understandable, outburst. The man didn’t need to make an apology and we all knew it, but he felt like he had to do something.  “Do you think we will find her?” Kayla asked me as she sat down beside me on the front porch.  “We need to find her.” I didn’t face Kayla as I spoke the words. It is true. It is no longer a question of when or if we will find her. “I just need to find her. I need to know where she is. I need to be with her again.” “I need her.”  “Kayla go inside, I want to talk to Kyle for a moment.” I heard Skye say to Kayla. For a woman who is round about sixty years old, Skye looks like a woman who is thirty in her jeans and black blouse. She has no grey hair, although I have spotted silver strands in the last few weeks.  “I don’t really feel like talking right now.” I said softly to Skye as she took the spot Kayla had just vacated now.  “Then don’t talk, just listen.”  I nodded and waited for her to talk, but she said nothing.  Is she going to talk anytime soon or must I just listen to everything else that surrounds us? We sat like that for ten minutes before I got fed up of waiting for her to say something and growled as I stood up. “I’m going to make some calls and find out if any of my contacts found out anything yet.” “Sit your ass back down.” Skye might not have been looking at me as she said that but her words stopped me as though she somehow had me frozen where I stood.  “You might be ancient, but right now let me be the elder and listen to me. Sit down.” Skye’s voice was low and scary.  I sat down and looked at her. What could she possibly tell me that I haven’t already heard? ”Mika is alive. You do still believe that, don’t you?”  I needed more than anything else in the world to believe that she is alive, but after everything we found and considering how long it has been, I can’t imagine that the vampires would have allowed her to live this long. I have lived long enough to know that after they have tortured her and played with her they would kill her.  Then again Mika is strong and she is intelligent. She would find a way to live through it all and make her way back to me.  And once she is back where she belongs, I am going to go against my orders and kill every one of those bloodsucking monsters.  It took me a moment to realize that I hadn’t given Skye an answer to her question.  “I know that she is still alive.” I said, my voice sounding a bit rough to my own ears. “What I don’t understand is why you had to make me wait ten minutes before you spoke.” Skye got up and sighed. “You got a connection to nature that is much stronger than mine. If I could still feel that Mika is alive then I know that you could too. I just think that you are so overcome by your emotions that you have forgotten a few things. Your judgement is clouded and I know that you haven’t had an outburst yet, but you will and I fear that none of us will be able to stop you from going on a killing spree.” “That won’t happen.” I growled and felt my anger rise slightly. I need to stay calm.  “You need to start thinking rationally. Right now you are emotional, irrational and not listening to what the world is trying to tell you.” Skye explained, she explained something that I should have known right from the beginning. “You are an angel. It has been nearly a month since Mika was taken. I want my granddaughter back where she belongs. You have a bond to her that nature approves of otherwise you two would never have been together. Let it give you the clues you need to find Mika.” Skye is right. I have been stupid. I could have had Mika back in my arms a long time ago if I stopped and relied on what was always there instead of all the false and dead-end leads we have been going on for so long.  I closed my eyes and focused solely on Mika. I let the slight breeze surround me and I was taken back to the motel where Mika’s scent was last scented. There is a diner near the motel. One of the pack warriors who was with us said he found Mika’s scent there but it was extremely faint. What is it I missed that I didn’t notice the first time.  What are you trying to tell me? That road why are you showing me that road? Where does it lead? Shit! How could I have been such an i***t?! ”Mika escaped from the vampires.” I nearly yelled out.  Killian and the rest of Mika’s family came out of the pack house. “What are you talking about?” Jace asked. He sounded desperate. He too needed Mika to be alive, he had just found his twin to lose her now would tear him apart.  “She must have escaped. Her wedding dress would not have been left in the garbage by the vampires.  They would have made sure to get rid of every trace of her scent to make sure she isn’t found.” I explained. “Not to mention I think she might have gotten a little help. The closest pack to that town would take at least 4 hours to get there. They are not really a pack, they are more of a pride. I had visited them once about three decades ago.” Jace winced slightly. He does not know my true age, except that I am an ancient relic compared to his sister.  I ignored him and carried on explaining. “If Mika managed to escape like I think she has then she must have been heading to them. We need to get to them now!” Killian looked slightly relieved. This might be the first good news we have had since Mika has disappeared. But as soon as that relief on his face appeared it disappeared.  “What if this is just another dead end?” Killian asked. He sounded like a man who is dead to the world.  “You stay here and I will go to them.” I said, staring him straight in the eye. He looked torn, like he wasn’t sure if he should take this trip or stay here.” “I will go with you.” Jace said, the look he gave me dared me to challenge him on this. He must have expected me to fight him on this or something.  I was just going to extend my wings and fly there, looks like I am going to have to get on a plane now.  I am coming for you Mika.
