Chapter 14
Cassandra’s POV
She has escaped and had taken the little girl with her. The cheetah girl was going to be experimented on. I wanted to see if it is possible for her to shift at such a young age. Slowly feeding her vampire blood instead of taking the route we usually take when changing someone.
“What happened?” I asked the guard who was stationed by Mika’s cage. He looked like he was about to piss himself.
“Laude told me he was going to take over, My Queen. He must of let the girl escape.” The guard cried out.
I moved towards him in a blink of an eye. “Are you telling me my right-hand man is responsible for this?”
It is nightfall now. There is no telling how long ago Mika escaped. And now this little imbecile is telling me Laude is responsible for this. Treachery is punishable by death, Laude knows this and he would never betray me.
“Yes, My Queen.” The man had the gall to stare me in the eye. He spoke with a sense of authority. For that alone I will kill him. I have been too lenient with my people, they need to remember who is in charge.
I can suppress the powers of other vampires. So that is what I did to him, I made him as weak as a human. “I tell you what, if you are so certain about this. We will have a trial. I promised an execution and at midnight there will be an execution.”
I walked away and went to the battle room where Laude was, he was training some of the younger vampires in how to protect themselves. As vampires they might be stronger and faster, but they are not invincible.
I stared at Laude and he met my stare with one of his own. He stopped what he was doing and faced me fully.
“Leave us now!” I commanded the vampires.
They sped out of the room, they were nothing but blurs that a human eye would never have been able to see.
Once they were gone I walked up to Laude. The only man I have trusted in years. He is a man I have come to call a friend.
“Tell me you didn’t help Mika escape.” The words flew out of my mouth. I am sure he heard the plea behind my words.
“Then let me not say anything at all.” His response was curt and I knew what he did.
I slapped him and saw the impression my hand left on his cheek. The mark came and went in a matter of seconds.
“Why would you do that?” I asked, but to my own ears it sounded like a command. “You know as well as I do what has to happen now.”
“I know, My Queen.” I cringed as he said that.
I might be a cold heartless b***h, but this man means a lot to me. He is the only one I have allowed to get close to me.
“Shut-up! Don’t call me that.” I cried out, he wrapped his arms around me and I shook in his arms.
Am I crying?
I have never cried before.
“I believe she is your daughter. I couldn’t let you kill her. It would destroy you.” He told me in a whisper against my hair.
“No one needs to know you helped her escape.” I said desperately.
“Chances are they already know. You can’t save me this time Cassie.” Laude said and then he kissed my forehead. “I know you better than anyone Cassie, you are going to lead a battle against her pack. Fight then. Do what you must, but don’t kill her. Hide her, wipe her memory if you must. Just keep her safe.”
“I love you my friend.” I said as I hugged him one last time. I stepped away from him as I felt some of my guards make their way to the battle room.
I stepped away from him and forced myself to look unconcerned. I need to look uncaring. I need to look like the ice-queen that I have heard some of my vampires call me.
The guards filed into the room, they hissed at Laude.
Mika’s POV
Amy and I went to our motel room. I let her shower first, the ten year old girl smiled at me when she got out of the shower and put on the clean clothes that were a bit loose on her. The man made sure to get her a pair of shoes as well, but she had no socks. It was fine; the shoes fit her quite well.
Once I got into the shower, I kept the bathroom door open. Just in case Amy might need me. we can stay here for two hours but then we need to start moving again.
I felt a bit like my old self, but I still felt so weak and tired.
Amy and I ate the chips. It helped fill a bit of the gap in our gaping stomachs.
Two hours later, Amy and I left the motel. We found out that we would be able to hop on a bus to go straight to where we need to be. The only problem is that the bus stop is a two hour walk away and
Laude said we need to keep on moving. There is no way of knowing if we have enough money for bus tickets or anything. I could call Kyle, or my father or even Jayden. But they are so far away. In a few short days they moved me a couple of times. By the time they get to me it might be too late.
“I am scared Mika.” Amy said as she tucked her hand into mine. “Me too.”
I smiled at Amy. “We won’t be taken back there; we just need to keep on moving until we reach safety.”
Amy nodded her head and we carried on walking.
Oh Kyle, I miss you so much.
We needed to eat. I found a diner and bought us burgers. Amy ate all the food off her plate. She grinned at me and I felt a warmth make its way to my heart. Warmth I have not felt in some time.
We can’t keep walking like this.
I looked outside the diner and made the decision to hotwire a car. I picked a car that looked a bit old and didn’t have an alarm that I could see. I have researched so much in my young life, it is time to see if I can put into practice what I have only seen in theory. I was sure it might not even work but it was worth a try.It took me a couple of tries, but I actually managed to hotwire the car. I quickly made my way to fill the tank and then got back onto the road. The sooner I get we get to the pack the better.
I drove for two days straight. I did not rest.
I found the town that Laude told me of and then realized that I don’t know how to get to the pack the he told me about. This town is small and surrounded by woods. I got out of the car and Amy got out after me.
“Is this it?” She asked.
That is a good question, one that I cannot answer at the moment. This is the town Laude told me about, but he doesn’t know where the pack is, so that means we might not be safe just yet.
I felt so exhausted. I tightened my grip around Amy’s hand and then felt my exhaustion washed over me and darkness claim me.
Please say that we are safe now.
