Chapter 18
Mika’s POV
ONE WEEK LATER
It has been a week since I returned and everything has gotten back to normal. More like a sense of what normal is. I wonder if anyone else notices it.
Today I marry Kyle, we have not been together since that first night which has been months ago now. I want to be with my mate more than anything.
I am not wearing a wedding dress this time! I am wearing a summer dress that reaches my knees. It is teal with a bit of grey in it. I’m the girl who is wearing sandals with rhinestones in them because if anything happens I don’t want to have limited movement.
I would have just eloped with Kyle, and in a way we kind of are eloping.
The pack doesn’t know about this ceremony we are having. It is small and near the lake. Once the ceremony is done Kyle and I are heading straight to his place.
Under the moonlight everything just feels so perfect. To add extra light Jayden insisted we use some of the tiki torches from mine and Jace’s birthday party, from when I was determined to run away and was ready to die.
It feels like a lifetime ago, that night when Kyle and I finally kissed, magic happened. I know it sounds corny, it even feels cheesy to stay. But it is true.
As I walked towards Kyle, a single red rose in my hands and the smiling faces of my family, everything just seemed amazing.
Kyle looked like he stopped breathing for a moment. Jace punched him in the back. Kyle grunted out a thanks and I had to stop myself from laughing. Instead I just smiled at him and focused only on him.
Skye was taking pictures and Jayden was recording everything.
Once I finally reached Kyle, I handed my rose to Kayla. Kyle took my hand in his and the warmth from his touch went through my whole body.
I am eighteen and finally getting married.
Elijah officiated the ceremony.
Before the wedding I told him I don’t want to have a long dragged out ceremony.
Elijah welcomed everyone in taking part in this occasion. Then he went straight to announcing that we wrote our own vows to each other. “Kyle?” my father said, indicating for Kyle to speak first.
Kyle looked a bit nervous and gulped before he took a deep breath and looked me straight in the eyes, he looked at me like I am the only girl in the world and no one else matters. Not in this moment or any other moment.
“Mika, I could stand here today and make a bunch of promises that will mean something and nothing at the same time. I will not do that. What I will do is tell you why you should marry me.” Kyle’s grip on my hand tightened. ”You should marry me because I need you more than I have ever needed or wanted anything in my life. I have lived a long time and I can say I have met women like you, but that would be a lie. Never has a woman owned my heart like you do. Never have I met a woman as strong as you. You should marry me because you own my heart and there is no way I will ever get it back. I need your strength and I need your love. Without you everything seems worthless. I would give anything and everything to spend eternity with you.”
I wanted to cry but I held back my tears. Kyle and I both know that for the most I might have another eighty years in this world. I will grow old and die, while he will stay young forever and carry on living.
“Mika, with you my life is complete. With you everything is the way it was always meant to be. And together we can withstand anything.” Kyle said, ending his vows.
I had to force myself to stay where I was. I just really wanted to be in his arms and kiss him already.
I should really start thinking of Elijah as my grandfather instead of as Elijah.
“When I met you, I thought you were a jerk. A very hot man, but still a bit of a jerk.” I joked. “In a short amount of time you managed to claim not only my heart but all of me. I am not really big on words, so I am going to make it short. I love you, you are not only my mate, and you are my protection and my comfort. You are the only one for me and even if destiny is so messed up right now I can tell you. I know for certain that no one else can or will ever make me feel the way you do. I am going to spend the rest of my life with you and you better love me even when I am old and ugly.”
I laughed slightly at the end and caught the glare Kyle flashed me before he smiled at me again. Maybe now is not the time to joke about growing old.
“The rings?” My grandfather asked Jace and Kayla.
Once Kyle’s ring was on my finger and mine on his Kyle pulled me tight against him and dipped me before he gave me one scorching kiss.
My man sure can kiss.
Kyle’s POV
Mika is finally my wife. All it took was going through hell and making it out alive, with scrapes and bruises.
For me there is a tie between our wedding night and the first night we were together. All of it is exactly the way it was always meant to be.
As Mika lay awake in my arms grinning from ear to ear I prayed that we could spend eternity like this. I said we taking a week off from the battle between good and evil, werewolves and vampires and the pack.
“We should get something to eat.” Mika said and as if in agreement I heard her stomach growl. My girl is definitely hungry and is in need of some extra energy if I plan to keep her in bed all day.
“Anything you want in particular?” I asked, in no rush to get up. I ran my hand over her hip and watched as she pulled her bottom lip between her teeth.
If she carries on doing that she can forget about brunch, it is too late for breakfast and still a bit early to consider anything we eat now as lunch.
“Surprise me.” She said but then wrapped her arm around my waist. It looks like she is in no hurry to let go of me either.
Just as I leaned in to kiss her stomach growled out again.
“I think there is some food in the fridge that I can warm up.” I sighed as I got up from bed and from my mate.
“Hey! Don’t be lazy.” Mika shouted from our bedroom.
I don’t care what she says now. I will warm that damn food in the fridge and make her a cup of coffee.
For later I will order a pizza.
We have years ahead of us, which will give me plenty of opportunities to cook for her. For now I don’t want to waste any more time in the kitchen. Not when I have Mika in my bed. In our bed.
She won’t be complaining when I have her under me again.
Dev’s POV
It hurts. Why does my chest hurt so much?
My mate! I know this pain. They told us about it. But then that means I already met my mate. Who is she? Where is she?
Images of Mika played in my mind’s eye.
No it can’t be. What the hell is going on?
Mika is Kyle’s mate.
I was running when I first felt the pain, now it is just unbearable.
Does Mika know she is my mate? Does she know that her infidelity is hurting me so much? Damn it! I just want this friggin’ pain to stop.
What have I done to deserve this?
This pain is too much and I can feel it pushing me to unconsciously, please let someone find me and save me.
“Hello Dev.” A woman said, she must be the most beautiful woman I have ever seen.
Wait. Where am I?
“You have nothing to fear. I am Selene.” The woman said.
Selene. I know that name.
You have got to be kidding me. She is the moon goddess.
“Why am I here?” I might be freaking out on the inside, but I can pretend all is fine for a few more minutes. Maybe this is just some kind of a dream.
“This is no dream, at least not completely anyway.” Selene said. She helped me up and gave me a glass with an amber liquid in it.
“Don’t worry, it’s not poison, while I was on Earth I seemed to develop a love and craving for apple juice.
I have never really been able to get the mixture right, but it is good.” Selene said, she frowned a bit but then covered it up with a smile.
I took a sip of the sweet drink, it might not taste a lot like apple juice, but it is alright.
“Why am I here?”
“I felt your pain. I am so sorry. Destiny the way it was meant to be changed. I might have had you picked out to be Mika’s mate, but that is in an alternate time and space. I might not have picked Kyle to be her mate and even if I tried to break them up it would not have worked.” Selene said.
Her flowing white dress raised slightly as the wind blew against it. And I noticed that she was barefoot. I should stop noticing her. It is weird on so many levels.
“So what now? I don’t have a mate.” I growled. All werewolves had mates. It is true that not all werewolves found their mates but the fact remains that their mates are out there somewhere or they are dead.
“Yes, for now at least.” Selene said.
“What does that mean?”
“It means that the weak bond, that connection you have to Mika will be broken. That I can do.” Selene answered and lifted her hand as though she was going to wipe away everything.
“That’s not all. What else does that mean?” I growled.
“It means change is coming, and neither I nor destiny knows what it is or will be able to guide it.” Selene then waved her hand in front of me and everything went white.
I woke up where I passed out. No longer in pain. Nor did my heart cry out for Mika. I somehow felt free and empty at the same time.
I should have known that fight with her was more than just some messed up training session. She knew way before I did that we were mates, or at least that we were supposed to be mates.
If what Selene said is true, there is no point in me getting comfortable in this life as it is now. Change is coming and I got a feeling Mika will be behind it all.
