The Beginning
Seven years ago I experienced something that changed my life forever. Like many nights before I dreamt of people I’ve never seen, and places I’ve never been. However, this time was different.  The day was September 18th, 2028. I laid in bed staring at the ceiling trying my hardest to fall asleep. As exhaustion slowly crept up I began to lose consciousness. When I closed my eyes it was as if I traveled through time and space. I opened my eyes and found myself outside. I appeared to be in the country on a beautiful Autumn morning. A couple minutes had passed before a 1967 Chevy Impala parked in front of me. The roar of the engine sent shivers down my spine, and when I caught sight of the driver, a swarm of butterflies appeared in my stomach. He approached me, kissed my forehead, and said, "I don’t think a jersey has ever looked so good.” Shocked by what just happened I stuttered my words, “Th-Thanks b-but, can I a-ask who you a-are?” His face started to droop a bit before he plastered on a new smile. "OH, um, so I’m Caspian Jones, your current boyfriend. Um,” he paused for a moment, "I’m your current ride to school and what I like to call your memory booster buddy.” I looked at him both confused and happy but yet lost. Do I trust him? Should I believe him? Maybe I should just run back into the house and pretend he’s not here. I turned around to look for the front door and the house disappeared before my eyes. Well s**t there goes my escape plan. I cautiously got into the car and we headed to school. On the way he caught me up on what I couldn’t remember and what I missed. Once we got to the school I was bombarded by people who all seemed very happy I was okay. As soon as Caspian and I met up with the others we went into the building to get ready for first period.  As we walked down this long dark hallway I noticed that most of the students transformed into tall shadow figures. They seemed to be intangible. Lost in my mess of a mind thinking about how this supernatural phenomenon could happen, I ran into someone. When I looked up I quickly realized it wasn’t someone, it was something. Its yellow glowing eyes pierced through me. I began backing up when I ran into another. Quickly after, I was being surrounded by these phantom creatures. Struck by fear I screamed. As soon as I did so everyone was sent flying in different directions. I dropped to the ground so weak and paralyzed by fear, I couldn’t move. I couldn’t grasp what had just happened. As the tears poured from my eyes questions approached rapidly. Why did everyone disperse when I screamed? How did the students turn into phantoms?  I sat alone until everyone gained consciousness. A couple minutes had passed while we gathered ourselves and our things. Finally, we continued down the hall towards our lockers. Shortly after arrival a dark presence appeared behind me. I didn’t know what to do, but I also knew if it was another phantom, I don’t want it to just stand behind me waiting to kill me or something. So, I closed my eyes and calmly turned myself around. When I opened my eyes I was no longer in the school but instead I was laying in my bed back at home. I tried talking to my parents about the dream at breakfast but they dismissed it like it was nothing. This wasn’t odd behavior for them. They are absorbed in work and seem to care less about anything other than that. After sitting in silence for what seemed like forever, my father spoke up. “Honey, I got a job offer in Salem. I already accepted it and told them I needed a house before I could start.” My mother chimed in, “Luckily though we found a house outside of town that's really affordable. After breakfast, I'm going to the store to get packing boxes so we can pack the house. Make sure you have all your things packed by Monday because we leave Tuesday. ” “Wait,” I swallowed, ”so we are dropping our lives here and moving to Salem now? Like we have lived here my whole life, and we don't even get to talk about this?” My father sipped his coffee, “Sweetheart, there's nothing to discuss I start work on Thursday, and your mother and I already talked it over.” I got up from the table and stormed to my room. I sat on my bed waiting for my mother to return with the packing boxes. As I was packing my things I came across a couple of my childhood things. I found the nerf gun I used at my eighth birthday party nerf battle, the time capsule I made a couple years ago, and a picture of my best friends and I at Disneyland in 2025. While looking at the picture a tear drop splashed on the glass of the frame. Without even noticing I began to cry.  After five heartbreaking days of packing it's finally moving day. Once the house was loaded in the truck I walked through the house one more time. The house was so empty and lifeless I almost didn't recognize it. Before I broke down I slowly walked to the truck looking back at the house once more. It took us seventeen hours to get to the new house, but I swear it took us days to get there. We got to the house at nine O'clock at night and when we finished bringing everything inside I didn't have the energy to do anything but crawl into bed.  Finally, It was Monday which meant it was my first day of school. I put on a white sweater and ripped skinny jeans. Then curled my copper hair, put on mascara and Chapstick, and slipped on my white vans. Before going upstairs I looked in the mirror to make sure I looked okay. As I ran up the stairs I can see my mom standing at the door waiting for me. "Grab an apple dear. I'm driving you to school and don't have time for you to eat here. My boss is facetiming me in about thirty minutes.” The drive to school was quiet. No one talked, and the radio didn't get touched as if by a silent agreement was agreed to no radio but I didn't, I needed it to be on so I didn't go insane. When we finally arrived at the school I quickly realized that this was the school from my dreams. The school with the shadow figures, and supernatural occurrences. I took a deep breath and searched my way to the counseling center. After wandering through the maze of a school I found it. I walked up to the desk where the lady gave me my schedule and introduced me to Juniper Jones, my guide around the school.  Juniper shot up from her chair, “You must be Rosalee Osman, the junior transfer from Nashville.” “That’s me,” I awkwardly smiled Shortly after introductions, she showed me around the school. Homecoming posters were scattered throughout the halls screaming at you to buy a ticket before October 13th. Finally the tour ended and we were standing outside my first period. Juniper reassured, “Alright so before we go in I want you to know that if you have nowhere to sit at lunch you are more than welcome to sit with me.” “Thank you. I’ll remember that, ”I accidently blushed When I walked into class all attention was on me. You see, not many people moved to Salem, they usually left it. Being the new student always sucked because the teachers always forced you to stand in front of the class and tell everyone who you are even when no one pays attention. My classes dragged on for what seemed like decades before the lunch bell rang. Since I last talked to Juniper, I didn’t talk to anyone else. I knew I had a table at lunch, and I knew I would make friends with people there anyways. When I walked into the cafeteria, I scanned the room looking for exits, the different school clichés, and finally Juniper’s table.  “Hey Rose, you made it!" Juniper waved. ”So these are my brothers Caspian and Dylan. Guys, this is Rosalee.” “Hi.” I said slowly sitting down “Bonjour Rosalee, I’m Dylan the more,” he paused, “Charming brother...” “More like the pain in the ass brother!” He chuckled, ”I’m Caspian, but please, call me Cas.” During the duration of lunch, I laughed till I cried. Not only did we make shallow jokes, but we built a friendship. This was the day I finally felt like I fit in.  On our way to fifth period they invited me to come over to their house. Obviously, I said yes even without regarding what my parents might say. After that, the end of the school day slowly began approaching. When the final bell rang I jumped out of my seat and quickly searched for one of the Jones. Out of nowhere Cas appears and I’m on my ass. Embarrassment swallowed me as I realized what had just happened. When I look up there he is holding out his hand to help me up. “Sorry I didn’t see you,” I said shyly. “It’s okay,” he chuckled, ”You seemed to be in a hurry.” “Yeah I was looking for you or your sister.” For the short moment that we talked everything disappeared and it felt like it was only us. The world melted away and I didn’t care. I wanted it to be like this forever. Lost in the paradise we lived in reality came crashing down upon me. Juniper and Dylan were standing there just laughing. In a matter of seconds my cheeks turned bright red. I quickly realized how embarrassing this is. I was pretty much drooling and I know that they noticed. “You two are so cute. And um Rose you got some drool right there,” Dylan said laughing. “Ass, ”I mumbled under my breath. “What was that?” “Nothing.”  We all walked to the parking lot to head to their house. When we got to their vehicles I fell in love instantly. There was a black 1967 Chevy Impala, a black 2024 Chevy Silverado, and a 2018 Pink Suzuki motorcycle. I might have been caught drooling over Caspian but a waterfall developed while I stared at these beautiful machines.  “Earth to Rose,” Dylan waved his hand in front of my face, ”Are you there?” I snapped back to reality and said, “Sorry you guys have such beautiful vehicles.” Juniper chuckled, ”Take a pick. You get to ride in or on whatever vehicle you want.” “And I don’t count just as an FYI,” Dylan said. We all chuckled for a moment, then excitement took over my body and I was dancing like a child in a candy store. After a couple seconds of thinking I ran to the Impala. The car of my dreams and I was about to ride in it. “Well,” I stared at them, ”Come on guys you really thought that it was that hard to pick. Have you ever seen Spookynatural?” They all laughed at me before starting their vehicles and leaving school. The drive took a while but I was just fine with it. I just kept thinking this is probably the best day of my life. Suddenly my phone rang, and when I looked down my mothers contact appeared. s**t!  “Hello?” “Where the hell are you!?” “I’m going to a friend's house. I texted you and told you about it,” I said as my attitude developed. She began cussing me out and I quickly hung up and looked up. In front me was one of the biggest houses I’ve ever seen. It was a beautiful sky blue with white window panes. There were five pillars holding the roof of the porch from collapsing. Two giant oak doors with golden door knobs and the family crescent. The crescent was a lion with a spider. “You sure get mesmerized quite easily,” Cas said laughing at me. “Shut up, ”I blushed lightly, ”You just have some really amazing things.” We got out of the car and walked up to the house. As soon as the doors opened my breath left the vicinity. There were two large white stair cases curving up slightly accenting the wooden floors below. There was a stunning walkway leading to an enormous kitchen. Inside the kitchen was a large island, a 2 door sterling silver professional chefs refrigerator, both a regular and professional stove, a dishwasher and cabinets galore. To the right of the entryway there was a large living room with LED lights lining the walls, black out curtains, and a 70 inch tv with a black entertainment center underneath. There were so many more things in this house that I could tell you about but that's not what this story is about.  After the tour of the house we went into the living room, turned on the game system and played some War Against The Undead . Around 5 o'clock we ordered some pizza and put on some music while we played Movie Shop. As the sun started to set and the time began to pass my phone rang again. "Hello?" I said into the microphone. "Sweetheart," my fathers voice sang through the phone, "It's almost 11 and you have school tomorrow. Where are you?" "I didn't realize how late it was. I'll be home shortly," I reassured. I turned to the everyone and let them know that it's time for me go. Dylan offered to take me home but he seemed like the stalker type so I had Caspian drive me instead. His house was less than 5 minutes from mine so we didn't have much time to talk, but the short time we did get to talk was magical. Once we arrived at my house he walked me to the door and we said our goodnights.
