Chapter 2: Masking up as Ronan

1633 Words
Roxanne’s POV, After the coronation ceremony yesterday, I made up my mind to venture into Garrick Alpha Academy. It’s an Academy that trains Alpha-princes into becoming Alphas. And for Alphas who goes there, they are trained into becoming the strongest versions of themselves. I’m not exactly going there to train. I’m only going there to Earn the title of an Alpha king. It’s said that After completing the Alpha training in Garrick, the best Student Alphas could be ordained as Alpha kings. Alphas whom doesn’t just rule over a definite pack but Different packs, wielding the Authority to seize power from any common Alpha. I sure don’t know the criterial that qualifies one to Emerge as best Alpha student in midst of a thousand other Alphas but I’ll worry about that later. For now I need to get into the Academy first but I also know that they don’t accept females in the Academy. Hence, why I made up my mind to disguise into a boy and the main reason why I’m here in Krystal’s house. “There’s no special way to take it.” Krystal’s said as I’m observing the small black bottle she just gave me. A concoction made by her father at my command. “Just make sure you drink the concoction before you step a foot into Garrick. It will deaden your she-wolf, your scent and everything that associates with your femininity. But…” She vaguely repeated the information I’m already aware of but then she takes a sudden pause. My eyes doesn’t peel off the bottle but through my peripheral vision, I notice Krystal’s agitation. “Your mate,” A chill breeze from the window waft into the room, chilling my skin and adding gothic ambience to the room. While I’m wondering what Krystal meant, she makes it clear. “Whether you drink the concoction or not, He would still be able to smell your scent and connect with your wolf. That way he would know you are a girl.” With the little tremor in Krystal’s tone, it’s obvious she is anxious. But unlike her, that information doesn’t faze me. “I don’t have a mate.” “C’mon! I’m not talking about Marcus. I’m talking about your True mate. Roxanne what if…” “It won’t happen.” My voice comes out sharper than intended. Swiftly, I tuck the bottle in my coat pocket then I turn side to meet a deep frown on Krystal’s face. “I am not going to Garrick to find a mate. I don’t even need one and I’m pretty sure the moon goddess knows that.” Krystal’s upper lip tugs up like she’s going to protest but she gives up and sighs instead. “Alright, but just be careful alright?” She genuinely gives me a concerned look and I reciprocate with a nod before deeming it fit to leave. But knowing Krystal very well, I certainly doesn’t expect she would just let me off the hook without trying to talk me out of my decision. I and Krystal are like the opposite kinds of friends. She’s not so daring as me and she always sees the negative sides of things. So just as I turn to walk out, she stops me. “You should really think this through, you know.” She begin, her voice extremely calm as if trying not to offend me. “Roxanne You leaving the pack for the wrong reasons and worst, you are ditching your father’s demands. You know what that means? You’ll never be allowed into the pack again.” Should I be worried about that? I keeps up my usual stern demeanor but Krystal who always seems to always read me, responds to to my unasked question. “You should be worried you know. You are going rogue. I know you think you’ve got everything figured out but what if Garrick doesn’t work out? What if you get caught somehow? We both known Garrick isn’t such an easy place. Most young males had been forced to their early graves because of Garrick. The rate of bully and oppression in that place is dangerously high.“ “Is there a reason you are telling me all this?” I had to ask because as far I know, Garrick is popular and so are the rumors that goes with it. Rumors or facts? I don’t know and I don’t care. “The student Alphas in Garrick prey on weak Alphas.” She isn’t insinuating I’m weak, is she? “You are going to be the only Girl In the midst of full breeded male Alphas, what if they notice you are different somehow and tries to…” She trails off obviously leaving the blank space for me to fill. If I should be the eccentric type, I’ll burst out laughing. But I’m not So I just maintain my posture and responds to Krystal. “Different how? That I’m a girl? The question should be, do I still remember how to be a girl?” Krystal doesn’t speak anymore. She only just stare and that’s the finale conversation we had before I left. The day blurs off and dawns meets me in my room grooming up. Changing myself into a boy. I finished dressing up in a male outfit and I am prepared to start chopping off my hair when my door slides open. My mother walks in and I am not surprised to see her. I expected her to come talk me into listening to my father and that’s exactly what brings her in. She didn’t draw any attention to my outfit as i sometimes dresses in male robes so swings into the reason she had come. Unlike my father, she literally came to plead with me into marrying Alpha simeon. Not for the pack’s sake nor my father’s sake. But for my own sake. Just like Krystal she was scared and well she does has a reason to. Disobeying my father’s Authority meant going rogue but what my mother didn’t know is that I’m already going rogue myself. Aside Krystal, she becomes the second person I convey my plans to and she welcomes the news with great astonishment. Finding out I’m disguising as a boy into Garrick, left her dumbfounded. Then when she finds her voice, the first thing she says is. “Is… is it really worth it?” My mother outwardly tries sounding firm but her voice cracks. “Is becoming an Alpha really worth putting yourself through this dangerous path? Is it really worth going into Garrick.” My mother’s eyes is a blend of fear and concern. Aside from that, there’s a familiar glow looming in them and I can’t help but be remembered of a memory I’ve long tried to bury. However, trying to avert it, I swiftly turn back on my mother. Once I’m staring myself in the mirror and my mother right behind me, I begin to speak. “I don’t exactly care about the throne anymore. I just want to change the barbaric perception they all have towards us women. I want to pay Alpha Cyrus back in his own coin. I want to humiliate him the same way he did. Most especially, I can’t let Marcus and Raven live a blissful life after what they both did. They all need to pay.” My mirror reflection doesn’t deliver my emotions quite well. It’s way too calm, too collected compare to the rage jeering within me. “And this is the only way I know.” I grip the scissors laying on the dresser beneath the mirror and hold out my hair to start cutting. I don’t expect my mother just to let me off the hook like that. Especially considering what had happened in the past… She brings it up. Ronan. My twin brother. She begin to reminds me about what had happened to Ronan in Garrick. Ronan was actually forced into Garrick by my father as he deemed him too weak to succeed him. Fed up of the bully he received in Garrick, ronan ran back to this pack with so many gory bruises. My father was so disappointed in him and tried pressuring him to return back to Garrick but ever since then, Ronan had been missing. Maybe he ran. We don’t know. We don’t even know if he’s still alive. My chest squeezed painfully as I tried to push back the painful thoughts of my brother. “I’m not Ronan.” I said quietly to my mother and I don’t let her stop me from cutting my hair. “Yes, I know you are quite more stronger and braver that him. But you are his replica.” My mother points out, her tone dropping an octave. “If you go to Garrick. Those morons who bullied him before will come after you thinking you are ronan.” “Then let them try.” I snaps angrily. In fact, I so badly wants to meet those bastards who tortured and bullied my brother. “Besides…” I open my mouth to speak but then pause as an idea I hadn’t thought of, suddenly strikes me. Aside from the masking up my feminine scent, why not also take up the mask of Ronan? Ronan once attended Garrick Academy and they all knew him as boy. Taking up his identity, means no one will ever assume I’m a girl. I hardly smirk but I just couldn’t help the one that creeps into my face, triggering my mother ask, “what are you thinking?” “Ronan.” My smirk widens. “I’ll take up his identity. I will enter into Garrick as Ronan. That way no one will ever suspect I’m a girl.”
