Chapter 3: Garrick Alpha Academy

1611 Words
The scent of dominance clung to the air the moment I stepped into Garrick Academy. The building are all exactly as the rumors said. They are tall and loomed like a fortress made of marble pillars, glass walls, and a silence broken only by the deep, rumbling laughter of Alphas clustered in groups. As I stepped into the grounds, people turned to look at me as they whispered among themselves. I felt my skin crawling, Because the way they snickered proved that they didn’t see Roxxane. They saw Ronan—the weakling who had supposedly tucked his tail and vanished. A few of them whispered my brother’s name like it was a joke they’d told a thousand times. Others didn’t bother whispering at all. “Ronan?” Everyone are all whispering around me, astonishment lacing in their tones. “Didn’t think you’d crawl back here, Ronan!” A male yells from a brief distance. I don’t bother to know whom it is. So I keeps walking straight up. I hope I gets to the authorities of the place before anyone gets in my way. The last I’ll want to do is to cause a scene right on my first day in the day. Not like I care but… My thought is placed on hold as someone appears before me, blocking my path. A male. He is broad-shouldered, smug, and also reeking of arrogance. “You’ve got some nerve showing your face here, you know.” His said gruffly, his brow arched up in a menacing way. I gives him a once over and then scoff, prepares to walk off. But I’m utterly astonished by the reaction that evokes from everyone. Many “Woahs” erupts from the males around but the most stupefied male is the one standing before me. He makes a frown which I ignores and made to brush past him But His hand grabbed my shoulder painfully. Anger rose from the bit of my stomach, instinctively making me swat his hand away, using my other hand. The force was more than he anticipated and he stumbled back, colliding with someone else. The shift in the air is instant. Everybody suddenly became quiet and still, as they turned to look at the man standing behind the man I pushed. He is actually taller than the rest, dressed in black in a way that seemed like a reflection of a dark evil soul. The cut of his jaw is sharp enough to draw blood, and his deep seated dark eyes are locked in mine like he’s staring at a ghost. The guy I shoved muttered, “Al… Alpha… Conan—” but I barely registered it. I don’t know him, and I certainly don't understand why everyone looked scared of him. This Alpha Conan looked at me for a long, suffocating moment with an unreadable expression. Then, shock flickered in his eyes. It was there for only a heartbeat before it twisted into something intense… a blend of hatred and disdain. “Woah,” A slice of humor mixes with his gothic expression. “Look whom decided to come back!” I don’t know if it’s my natural hatred for everyone here in Garrick whom probably bullied my brother but I find his teasing looks, upsetting. Tilting my chin up, I match his menacing stare, “should I be worried about that?” I put into use my Alpha-male intonation which I’ve trained over the years. The murmurs started instantly, like the words I had spoken were unheard of. Disbelief masking everyone’s faces as their eyes widened. Conan’s stare hardens. “Wow!” He chuckles humorlessly and then step closer. Each steps he takes easily commands fear and as much as I hate to admit, I felt that tiny urge to retreats back. But I don’t. I stay put, collected and defiant until he decides to stop a few inch away from me. All along, none of us breaks our gaze. We stare in silence and his next statement hits me hard. “You know if you still didnt have your feminine stature intact, I would have thought we have a different ronan.” Feminine? My chest rose and fell. But just as I’ve always done in every situation, I remain calm, not even my gaze falters. He continues, “I mean since when did get to talk back huh?” “Talk back?” I smirk, letting sarcasm lace every word. “I just asked a question. Or was I supposed to be silent?” I heard a few whispers, people saying things like, “Damn! He has changed so much.” Some people loved this new version of Ronan while some felt like it was all a facade. “He's going to regret this very soon,” they whispered, but my attention isn’t on them. Its on Alpha Conan. His lips curved in a way that made his smile look dangerous, like a predator seeing a new version of prey to hunt. “Keep this new version of yourself,” he said with that dangerous smile playing on his face. “You’re going to need it to survive here… that’s if you don’t run away again.” The way he said it made my skin prickle. His tone isn’t loud, but it was cold enough to make me shudder. He stepped closer, close enough for his scent—dark cedar and the woods—to tickle my nose. “But This time,” he murmured, “you won’t run away alive.” The crowd seemed to hold its breath, as if they were waiting to see what I would do next. But even though his arrogant tone made me shudder, I didn't let the fear show on my face. I had come to this academy with hopes of challenges, and now I have gotten my first one. So I met his eyes and with confidence in my tone, I replied, “We’ll see about that.” His gaze lingered on me a moment longer before he brushed past me, the crowd parting to let him through. Getting to the authorities was a hassle as I get passed several males whom all kept staring and mumbling. I was literally the topic of the whole school. I get to the office and underwent some re-registration as ronan, paper works and thankfully no blood signature. My identity was taken by my face and it merge quite well with Ronans. Finally by evening, I got shown to Ronan’s dorm. I met my dorm mate, or should I say Ronan's dorm mate. Jericho. He was a lean and talkative Beta who was waiting in the room when I entered. His eyes were bright with disbelief. Unlike everyone else, he appears to be the first nice person I’m meeting. He helps me gets settled in and while on it, I get to discover he was among the crowd of male who was in the little scene with me and that… Canan. “You actually talked back to Conan.” He exclaims that like it was a miracle. I suddenly wanted to know whom this Canan is but I also know as ronan, I’m supposed to know him so I rack my head for the best way to voice it. Then it hits. Play dumb. Drawing my attention from the clothes I’m folding, I give him an over-exaggerated shock face. “Conan? Who’s he?” He stare dead at me… his frown harder than my own shock. “You don’t know Canan?” “Well, I suffered head fracture. Lost memory you know. I can say I barely remember anyone in this academy. Would you be kind enough to refresh my memory?” Jericho stare disbelieved at me for a long ass time before he finally speaks ip. “Damn… Little wonder you could face Canan head on.” I stare at him waiting for him to tell me what I need to know. “Well, Conan isn’t like the rest of us. There are two Alphas who literally rules Garrick. Nobody dares double crosses them unless you’ve a death warrant and Canan is one of them. Aside from the fact that everyone fears him, you were like his plaything in this school. They all had fun putting your life through hell, especially canan.” Before Jericho finishes speaking, I was at my boiling point. Seriously?! I can barely imagine the hell my brother must faced her in this academy. But I don’t blame the bastards who tortured him… it’s all my father’s fault that he has to come here in the first place. “You should be very careful you know. I’m sure Canan would come for you. Especially what you did back ther…” “Who’s the second one?” I cuts Jericho off before I stop myself, my voice sharper than intended. Jericho frown. “You said two two Alphas rules this Academy.” I rephrase and then his face lits up as realization hits him. “He’s called Kade. Alpha kade.” He responded. “By all means, do not let him see you.” Jericho looks at me with concern and sad eyes before turning back to folding my clothes. I don’t make any reaction. I just stand still my mind rephrasing everything Jericho said. Then all of sudden, Jericho’s gasps startles me. “what’s that on your pants?!” He’s beside me and he’s pointing to something behind me. I follow the direction and what meets brings my heartbeat to a stop. A thick red stain is stamp at my butt area, coloring my Creamy colored trouser. Menstrual blood.
