♡ Chapter 2 ♡

1062 Words
I pull into an empty parking spot outside a small diner that was walking distance from the beach. My dad said around 5 pm, not a quarter to noon. I then get out of my car after grabbing my phone and wallet. Once I head inside, I take a seat at the bar. “What can I get you to drink?” I hear the waitress ask me. I look at the menu and then take my wallet out on the counter and then take out my ID. “I’ll have a Budweiser.” I tell the nice lady. She smiles at me once I hand her my Identification. “So, are you new here?” She asks me whilst making my drink. “Um, yeah my dad lives here and I’m going to stay with him.” I tell her trying not to sound awkwardly. She hands me my drink. “Well, welcome to our little town.” She says with a smile and then walks away. I look through the menu to see if they have anything Vegan.  I am excited when I find that they do indeed include some Vegan items. After closing my menu and placing it down on the bar, I hear some laughing in the background. “I can’t believe you’re still working.” I hear a girl say from behind me. “Yeah, I know, but I like my job and I’m not in a relationship like you two are in.” I hear a guy’s voice this time. “Well I promise by the end of this week, I will set you up on a date.” I hear a different guy say. “Yeah, okay man, I’ll see you guys later.” The guy who spoke earlier says. “See you Wilson, Lizzie and I are going to get groceries, we’ll get your Vegan stuff too.” I hear a guy tell Wilson. “Thanks man.” Wilson just says. The waitress comes up to me and asks what I wanted and once I told her, she just nods and then walks away from me. “Hey Courtney, I’ll take my usual please.” I hear Wilson say while taking a seat next to me. “Gotcha sugar, why don’t you introduce yourself to this young thing here, she’s new and visiting a relative.” The waitress tells Wilson. “Hey there, what’s your name?” I hear Wilson ask me. I turn to my left and then give him a smile. “My name is Lauren.” I tell him while extending my hand. “I’m Wilson.” He tells me whilst shaking my hand. I know. Was what I thought, but I don’t want him to think that I eavesdropped or something on his conversation. “So, you have family here?” He asks me while accepting his drink from the same waitress as me.  “Yeah my dad.” I tell him while taking a sip of my beer. “Oh okay, and who’s your dad?” He asks me. “Um, Mitchell.” I tell him. He nods and then starts to sip his own drink.  “Well, he lives in a nice home.” Wilson just says while giving me a friendly smile and then looking down at his menu. “Here’s your order hon.” The waitress says sliding my order in front of me. “Thank you.” I tell her and then start to eat my salad. I did a quick glance at the guy next to me. For some reason he seemed to do a weird look once he looked down at his menu. I wonder what that is about.   ~**~*~**~ Wilson and I didn’t talk much after, well only because his phone alarm went off and he then said bye to the waitress and then give me a distant but friendly smile and then leave the diner. I'm not really sure what his problem is.    ~*~**~*~*~*~ I’m currently walking up the steps to my dad’s home with my duffel bag in hand. I would’ve packed more had I known I was staying here for the summer. After ringing the doorbell several times, a maid finally answered the door and she gave me a smile. “You must be Lauren, come on in.” She tells me whilst opening the door fully for me to enter this big estate. “Um, your dad is at some convention, but he sends his love.” She tells me once I’m all the way in looking at a grand staircase. I let out a frown. “He’s not coming for dinner?” I ask while gripping my duffel tightly. “Oh, no he’s not I thought you knew.” She says with a sigh.  I just shook my head then made my way to the kitchen. “I can make you something.” She informs me while following me into the kitchen.  “Nah, that’s okay, I used to cook for myself a lot.” I tell her while putting my bag on the bar stool and then walking over to the fridge. “Oh, okay just let me know if you need anything.” She then says while walking out of the kitchen. “I will.” I just tell her while looking through the fridge.  I then grab a Cherry Coke can from the fridge, and then walk over to the big pantry door whilst opening my coke can. As soon as I did, I found some Ramen noodles, the chicken kind, a whole pack of them. So I grab one bag and then walk up to the stove, and I put my coke can and the Ramen down next to the stove and grab a pot from the cabinets then put some sink water in it, and then place it on the stove. “It’s dinner time.” I say to no one in particular.  I can’t believe my dad failed to inform me he won’t be here for dinner.
