In The Beginning....
This is Book Two in the Series. The first book is Woven Fates. In The Beginning……. The Moon Goddess, the Goddess Freyr, The Earth Mother and the God Morraddin looked upon the earth world they had created, and they were proud. They had achieved much for their people. Their people were happy, they were co-existing. They shared and bartered for foods, weapons and services. Their people thrived and built good lives for themselves and each other. But then came a pestilence upon their world. A bringer of death and foul deeds. A being whose sickness led him to kill and drink the blood of others. The God and Goddesses watched on in revulsion and anger. This is not how they had built this world! As they watched on the numbers of the sick grew and they knew they must do something, so they consulted with the Fates. The Fates had allowed the God and Goddesses to build their worlds and create their people as they saw fit because this did not change the hand of fate. This new scourge was not part of the plan for this world and so they sought a way to remove it. The Fates welcomed them with curiosity. They had given them freedom to create their world as they wished. What had changed? They stood in their earthly forms at the mouth of the cave where they would find the Fates. They awaited the call for them to enter. They were nervous for although they were Gods, the fates were the only ones who could strip them of the powers. It was the Fates that understood life could not always exist in the sunshine, sometimes darkness was needed so beings could appreciate the life. It was something often overlooked. “Enter!” A voice boomed from inside the cave. The God and Godesses walked forward with trepidation. “What is it you seek?” The first fate asked. The three Fates sat in a line on thrones of stone. “Cherished Fates.” The Moon Goddess began stepping forward. “We come to you seeking your wisdom. Beings now live among our children who seek to kill them and drink their blood. We seek your permission to remove them from our world. They were not created in our world and we would like to remove them and return them to the world of the humans.” The Fates all turned to each other but seemed to be using a mind link to speak. They all nodded in agreement before turning back to the God and Goddesses. “Moon Goddess, please understand. It is our task to ensure fate is allowed to happen. No being may live only in the light. Life and death are a delicate balance and require a bit of both light and dark to work. We can not remove these beings, we must allow fate to run its course.” “But our people will be slaughtered!” The Moon Goddess cried. The second Fate looked into the large stone bowl of water in front of her and watched for a moment, the other two Fates watching as well. “Moon Goddess, your people are warriors. They fight with strength and determination. We will give them the ability to kill these beings but be warned, these beings will also be able to kill your werewolves. They must remove their heads or hearts so that they will not be resurrected” “Freyr, Goddess of the Elven folk and The Earth Mother of the Faerie Folk, step forward.” The third fate requested. Freyr and the Earth Mother did as they were asked. “Your people are strong with bow and arrow and weapons. They must shoot an arrow of wood through these beings hearts or remove their heads from their shoulders to ensure they stay dead.” Morraddin, God of the Dwarven Folk. Task your people to make weapons that can be used beyond the reach of these creatures. Spears, bow and arrow and war axes. Your people are mighty warriors, They will fight alongside their peers to control this scourge.” The first Fate faced the 4 Deity’s before them. “We have decided that we will offer you one small concession. We will intervene to ensure that these beings can not drink the blood of your people without it making them ill or causing them to die.” “Apart from this, you must accept fate, as it is fate that has brought this upon you.” The second Fate added. The Deity’s nodded and bowed their heads as they began to back out of the cave. “It would be wise for you to heed our word and not interfere.” The third Fate called out. “We understand your love for your people but we will not tolerate interference.” The Deity’s nodded and backed out of the cave. They continued in their earthly forms beyond the cave and to a stream where large trees grew. They sat in their shade, contemplating their predicament. “Perhaps we can ask our peoples leaders to approach theirs? Maybe a truce is possible?” Freyr began. “NO!” Morraddin boomed. “No truce for those killers! They must learn to live alongside us, following our ways. Our ways are not to murder and drink each others blood!!” “I agree with Morraddin, we can not accept this as fate.” The Earth Mother began. “We can not let this sickness take hold in our world.” “Then we curse the Human world to death for they can not fight back.” The Moon Goddess replied sadly. “What would you have us do?” Morraddin demanded. “We cannot save everyone.” “We must gather our leaders and speak with them.” The Earth Mother began. “This burden falls on them also. “Agreed.” The Moon Goddess said. “We will reach out to our people to meet us here tomorrow night.” They each moved away and used their various ways to reach out to their leaders, requesting they join them tomorrow night. The following night the leaders came together by the stream in the same spot the Deity’s had met the night before. The Deity’s appeared to them in their human forms. They watched as the leaders greeted each other as family. They had chosen their kings and queens well, strong bloodlines that would prevail no matter what. “We have news for you all regarding this new scourge that has found its way into our world.” The Earth Mother began. “We are governed by the Three Fates. It is their job to ensure fate is able to prevail without the interference of magic or Deity’s.” “They believe that our interference changes the course of fate and therefore it is no longer fate. We believe you all have a destiny to rule over your people and this was not born of fate quite so much. However, the Fates have the power to take away our powers.” Freyr continued. “And therefore, we must do as they say.” The Moon Goddess finished. “We can offer you one alternative. You might address their King or their leader. You may be able to come to a compromise.” The Earth Mother said. “The Fates have offered one concession. They have seen to it that these creatures will not feed on you or your people. This means they will seek food in the human world.” Freyr added. “This is unacceptable! We are slowly forging alliances in that world. We are trading for animals for milk and for meat. They have these amazing creatures” the Elven King said patting the neck of the horse that stood beside him. “We can not offer these beings up as fodder!” “We will seek out their leader Goddess.” The Werewolf King began, “And we will seek out a truce acceptable to everyone.” The Moon Goddess nodded in appreciation. “We will meet in 3 nights in this place, and you can tell us what you have been able to negotiate with this creature.” The Earth Mother smiled at all of them. “Be safe, all of you.” They all nodded as they mounted their horses. They had all heard reports of sightings and headed in the direction from which they had came. Right into the lair of these blood sucking creatures. They had not ridden far when they saw something in the distance. It moved with great speed and was upon them in unnatural time. “State your business!” The Faerie King roared. “My business is to feed on you!” The being smirked. They all drew their swords and spears, the Fae King trained his bow on the being. “You will tell your leader we wish to speak.” The Fae King demanded, his bow nocked and ready to fire. The being hissed angrily. “You think you can command me!” He roared. “We request an audience with your king.” The Werewolf King asked civilly. “We wish to discuss the division of borders. We understand your people do not have a place to call home. We wish to remedy this.” The other 3 Kings all glared at him angrily. “Very well, I will retrieve our leader for you.” The creature acquiesced turning and moving out of sight before they even realised what was happening. The creature returned shortly after with a man who was clearly their leader. He had an air about him that the other man had not possessed. “My Lord.” The Werewolf King bowed his head slightly. “We come to you in the spirit of goodwill to discuss the division of lands.” “Friend, we thought to simply take any land we require.” Their Leader smirked. “We are the Kings of the 4 Realms. We have our Kingdoms, but we wish to offer you one of your own.” The Werewolf King smiled. “I’m listening.” The creatures’ eyes widened with greed. “There are lands beside the Dwarven realm that border the Elven realm as well. We would like to offer these to you in the spirit of friendship. You may trade on or farm these lands as you see fit. They are yours from this time on.” “Do you not trust us to live amongst you superior beings?” The creature asked. “This is land that can be gifted to you without anybody giving up their own land. If land titles need to be reviewed in the future, we will happily meet with you again.” The Werewolf King smiled. “Very well, we will take up your offer if you will show us these lands of which you speak.” The creature agreed. “I will take ya to see the lands as they border my own.” The Dwarven King offered. “Very well. You ride, I am able to keep up.” The creature smiled. The Dwarven King nodded. “Very well My Lord.” “Call me Lord Anton.” The creature smirked. The Elven King retreated to where his guard had stayed out of sight. “Go with the Dwarven folk as back up. When they reach the borders of the land being offered you wait. Unless he is a fool, the Dwarven King will break off there and return home.” “Your Majesty.” The Head of the Guard nodded as he turned away. “May the Goddess be with you.” The Elven King nodded. The Fates stood together watching the exchange between the Kings and the creature. “This is not good.” The first one began shaking their head sadly. “We can not interfere, we are the Fates.” The second one announced. “But what if we put a prophecy in place that can only happen if fate is involved?” The Third asked. “I’m listening.” The second Fate said suspiciously. “A prophecy that will bring two beings together at the beginning of the battle that will put an end to this. Not to end these creatures but to broker peace throughout the land.” The first Fate began. “One of their people and one from the light.” The third Fate added. “That they might bring forth two children, one of the light and one of the dark who will end this pestilence and death.” The first Fate continued. “But their meeting must be by fate.” The second Fate declared. “Fate must always play its own part.” “Agreed.” The first and third Fates spoke in unison. “And so it shall be.” The second Fate added.
