Chapter One
Losing Everything.
Jade's POV.
The Joy of expecting a child is irreplaceable especially when the pregnancy results are just out. Being together with my husband for a while, I'm super excited to share this news with him.
I prepared his favorite food while waiting for him to return back from work, this night is going to be the best one ever. Then, my phone rang out and I picked up instantly, it's from the hospital. Probably Mom's health is acting up again.
“Hello Jade, sorry for reaching out late. Your mom's health act up again today and it was worse than before but we tried our best to save her”
I interrupt the nurse out of curiosity , knowing they will end up asking for her bills. “So how is she feeling now? I will make I pay you this week”
“This isn't about money anymore, your mother gave up. We tried to save her but she later died. Please, take heart”
The word "gone" seems very new to me as my blood circulates ten thousand times as I fight the tears back.
"Hello Jade, can you hear me? We need to move her to the mortuary as soon as possible and you should show up"
I couldn't respond as the right word refused to come out of my mouth. I had never known my father; my mother was my everything. Now, she is gone, leaving me adrift in a sea of despair.
However, I smile a bit the moment I remember that John is still with me. Hadn't been a cheater, I'm sure John would have taken care of my mom.
I braced my heart. I have to be strong and avoid being sad, not even when I'm expecting my baby.
Today was supposed to be a happy day. I had pictured how happy John would be when he heard about my pregnancy. He will console me about my mother and tell me everything will be fine.
Finally, he arrived and I quickly wiped my tears. I stood up to rush to his arms and burst into tears but he tossed a brown file at me instead. His face was cold and distant, making me curious about the sudden change.
“What’s this?” I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.
I guess John was also in a bad mood. He has never show any attitude like this before and he always greet me with open arms. But now, his face was cold and distant.
Looking back to the brown file, a thought struck me and I couldn't help but scream. "Don't tell me about the business crash? Did they reject your proposal? What exactly happened? Why is your face like this?" I bombarded him with questions, trying to avoid the fear of losing the most precious thing to me.
I have sacrificed a lot for his business including my mother's medical bill which seems to add to her death. Right now, I can't afford losing the business too.
"Look at how shameless you are! So you have been expecting my business to crash huh? Isn't it?" John slams his fist on the table and shoots me a glare. "I'm divorcing you! You're a low-life thing!"
I was stunned, rooted to the spot, trying to gather things together. At that moment, I couldn't figure out what he meant but his expression says a lot.
I opened the file and it was written in bold font "Divorce Agreement"
"Wait John, is this a joke or what?" I asked, but his next reaction crushed all my hopes now. He throws his ring at me.
I felt my world tilt on its axis. “John, please… I..” I reached out to him, hoping to clear the misunderstanding between us. I wanted to tell him that I'm sorry even if I'm not aware of what I did wrong.
However, he slapped me across my cheeks the moment my hand touched him and pushed me away, causing me to lose balance and eventually fall to the ground, my tummy hitting the table and I felt a sharp pain.
“Argh!” Tears rolled down my eyes, feeling so pained and guilty of the situation.
“Get out of my life,” he spat, gathering his belongings without a second glance.
"I'm in pain. John! Please wait!" I cried out. Hoping he would look back and help me up, hoping he would consider everything we had shared but the sound of door shutting behind him is what I heard.
"John, please... Listen to me" I begged, trying to endure the pain that I felt. I wanted to tell him that he is becoming a father soon. However, he left me without listening.
With great effort, I crawled toward the door, each movement a struggle. My body felt so weak as I felt the liquid coming out of my body and the pain that follows.
"Help me" I muttered, hoping someone would hear me. My voice barely above a whisper as I lost my strength slowly. Even at this moment, I still wish John would look back and help me.
Finally, I managed to knock on our neighbor’s door, my knuckles barely making a sound. When it swung open, Mrs. Thompson’s eyes widened in shock. “Oh, Jade!” she exclaimed, rushing to my side. I collapsed into her arms, sobbing uncontrollably.
“What happened? Are you okay?” she asked, her voice laced with concern.
Between sobs, I manage to respond. "I'm in pain, please help me"
In a loud voice, she freaks out. "Oh blood! You need to see the doctor"
My heart raced a thousand beats, I kept hoping the blood wasn't the results of what I was thinking at the moment. My baby must be healthy, I can't afford to lose everything at once.
Once at the hospital, I was admitted instantly. After waiting for a while, the doctor’s face was kind but serious. “Miss, I’m so sorry. Due to the fall, your pregnancy… it’s gone.” Those words sliced through me like a knife. It feels like my entire world has collapsed in front of me, the anticipation of being a mother is gone and I'm left alone like a murder.
Unable to take the shock any longer, I felt a heavy breath on me and I felt down as I lost my consciousness.
"Jade!!”
