CHAPTER ONE: THE AWAKENING
Morrigan’s Pov
BOOM!
There was a loud crash.
The entire house shook.
I woke up to the sound of my window shattering. For a few sleepy seconds I didn't know where I was, my curtains were flying all over the place, my books were on the floor.
Then the smell hit me. Something like a rotting animal hit me and I sat up quickly looking around, something hit the side of my bed and then I saw the shadow crouched in the wreckage of my desk.
It had red veiny eyes, I couldn't see anything aside from its eyes, it was too big,too big for the room, I clutched my necklace tight, my heart was beating fast against my chest, then I heard it. A growl, low and deep like something straight out of a movie.
I was dreaming,I was definitely dreaming. Then I heard it again.
A growl louder this time, my mirror shook.
I stopped breathing.
Every hair on my body stood up, I reached for my phone on the table and I tried to turn it on. The screen wouldn't turn on
“What?”
I tried again and again, but it didn't come on.
I quickly stood up from the bed and ran as fast as my feet could take me to the other side of the room.
It was trying to get up, and I heard the claws dragging against the floor.
Scratch.
Scratch.
Scratch.
I covered my ears from the sound, it was piercing. I couldn't scream, my throat was clogged. Its eyes found mine and there was nothing alive or human in them.
Then I screamed, raw and guttural as the creature finally stood up.
I clutched my necklace as the creature lunged at me and I heard another crash.
BOOM
A burst of white and gold light burst from my palms without me knowing what was happening. The light that came out of my hands had hit the creature and sent it reeling onto the wall, its shriek was inhuman.
My bedroom door slammed open.
“Dad!” I screamed.
But he didn't look like my dad. He did, but something was different.
He didn't look afraid. I saw a silver knife in his hand, he looked like it wasn't his first time doing something like this.
“Get down!” He said
I crouched down, as I tried to peep.
He wasn't wearing his usual clothes either.
The thing jumped out the window.
I ran to him.
“Dad what's happening?”
“Morrigan.”
He sounded too serious.
“Dad, there was something in my room.”
“I know.”
That answer terrified me.
Another growl sounded.
It was inside the house.
“Mor if I say run, you run.”
“What?”
The house shook.
“Get behind me.”
“Da-”
“Damn it, Get behind me.”
He grabbed my hand and kept me behind me while he silently walked downstairs.
My dad was the calmest person I knew, he didn't snap at anyone for any reason.
Another loud growl.
My dad brought out a silver sword.
BOOM.
Something broke through the front door,it looked too scrawny and huge at the same time.
He looked straight at me.
He lunged.
CRASH.
My dad had just flung a creature across the living room.
A monster.
A real life monster.
My whole life felt like a lie.
It screamed loudly.
“Stay back.”
It got up with a strange black liquid coming out of its mouth.
It looked straight at me.
“No.”
It took a step forward.
“I said no!”
The creature growled.
My dad moved in front of me.
“You're not taking her.”
What??
What could it possibly want with me?
Taking me??
The creature lunged again
My father met it halfway.
It swung its claws, my dad ducked, it swung again, he blocked it.
Claws hit metal.
I stepped back until my back hit a wall.
I wanted to help him,I wanted to wake up.
This had to be a nightmare. It couldn't be anything but one.”
Maybe I would just open my eyes and I would be in bed.
I felt a sharp pain in my feet,
I was stepping on broken glass from the shattered windows.
‘Pain makes you human’. I had read that somewhere and I knew for sure that I wasn't dreaming.
The creature looked at me.
Its expression changed.
No longer hatred but fear.
It looked at my hands.
My hands were glowing with silver light.
The creature took a step back.
I looked at my dad.
His face had paled.
The creature looked afraid of me.
“What's happening to me?”
The silver lights moved under my skin.
I screamed.
The light became brighter.
The walls shook.
The curtains were moving.
I was terrified.
My body was scaring me.
The necklace burned against my chest.
Everything in me exploded.
BOOM
A burst of silver energy came out me
Every window in the house shattered at once.
I dropped to my knees.
The creature screeched and flew.
My dad crossed the room in two strides and drove the sword into the creature's heart.
It didn't die easily, it shrieked, clawed, thrashed across my dad's arm, and he didn't even seem to realize it. He brought the sword out and drove it into his heart the second time and the thing finally went still.
I felt a sharp pain in my body.
I looked down, and the silver light had intensified.
It was spreading all over my body.
The pain was blinding.
I screamed loudly.
My dad rushed to me.
He was shaking.
“Don't touch me.”
“Mor, please let me help you.” His voice broke.
I'd never heard that sound from him before.
Everything went silent.
Through teary eyes,I saw my hands were still glowing.
I looked at him.
“What am I?”,” What are you?”
I just wanted to wake up.
His eyes were wet.
I asked him again, “What aren't you telling me?”
“I was trying to protect you.”
“Protect me??, protect me?” I scoffed.
“Tell me dad, now.”
“I just wanted to keep you safe.”
“From what exactly?”
“From all of this.”
“Dad, what am I?”
“You're a witch.”
My world stopped.
I laughed.
Thinking he would laugh with me and tell me he was joking.
He looked serious, too serious.
“What!, how's that even possible?”
“It's a long story.”
“Then start talking.”
Before he said anything, a man stormed into the house and he looked straight at me .
