Chapter 3

HELENA Now, what the actual freak is he saying now? I can feel my face curling in confusion and surprise while looking at his smug facade. What is this ‘hope’ he’s saying? My face begged enough for the elaboration of his nonsense. And it seems like Matthew caught the sign that has him saying more. “That’s why I asked you. If you can be honest, tell me what’s your plan now. You’re rest assured of the verbal non-disclosure agreement. I won’t snitch.” He muttered, and honestly, I don’t really know where this conversation goes. So, I looked at him with my eyes squinted into slits. I’m trying to read what’s on his mind. Unfortunately, his poker face returned. I couldn’t read any hints. But… Come to think of it, this man right here is a businessman with ill fame. By what he meant, ‘hope for the both of us’ and ‘the deal’ he proposed, I’m pretty sure it has something to do with fixing his reputation. I chuckled at the conclusion I have arrived with. Still I can infer that this is not bad at all. Besides, this deal could benefit the two of us. Not to mention the impressive coincidence that aligned with my plans. “Tell me your condition first, Mr. Trost.” I fired him back, Of course, I wouldn’t just tell anyone about it easily. He’s gotta tell me first before I tell him, so we can ‘deal’. I let out a playful smile on my face when I saw his thick brows wiggling. I thought he would yield back instantly that ends the deal. But I was proven wrong when he definitely told me his conditions. I just can’t believe that he trusted me so easily; “I thought the reputation I had would just die down as the time went by. You know, I can’t live with this forever–not only does it affect the company’s reputation but also my position as well.” He took a pause while I nodded at his response that aligned with what I thought. “First thing, I need to secure my position first. By doing that, I need someone who will inherit my position before my father throws me away.” He added as he spoke while looking directly in my eyes. My eyes narrowed as I don’t quite follow what he’s saying– Wait a damn minute… my squinted eyes slowly widened at the awful realization that was struck in me like an asteroid. I was so shocked that the comfort in my seat didn’t work that I had to stand on my feet. “What… the hell? You’re telling me to bear a baby with you?!” my voice raised, which I instantly laid down in fear that someone near might overhear. “We’re not doing the deeds. I’ll just give you my sperm–” “That’s not the problem, jackass!” I couldn’t really hold myself and shouted at him. “Having a baby… for freaking months in my womb… with you?” my voice trailed off. Carrying a baby sucks, and it just gets worse as it will be his! “Don’t worry, we can only proceed when we’re done fulfilling your plans. Now, you can drop it and tell me what you want to do from now on.” He said which got me into deep thinking. I returned to my seat and weighed things in my head as I started to calm myself. Actually… I think it’s not that bad. In fact, I don’t really care about anything in my life other than fulfilling and satisfying my heart with my vengeance toward those people who betrayed me in the most twisted ways. And the rest? I don’t care anymore, I could even die at peace after. “I just need to get back to them… Tristan and Kristina… I only need to drag them to hell with me.” I stared at the bottle with my eyes flaming with anger as I remembered the evil-like faces of the two. “I’m going to ruin them like how they ruined my life–no, I will do every worst thing possible. I’ll make sure that they don’t get the life they wanted.” “You’re one scary woman, kinda opposite to your innocent face.” Matthew commented, diverting my attention to him next. “Well, I can help you with that. I’m certain you needed finance, right? I’ll bear it. Just anything you want my help with, I can assure you my full cooperation. Just do your role for my condition after you’re settled.” Hmm… that doesn’t sound bad at all. But there’s one more that I would need his help with other than the finances. “Other than that, there’s one more thing that I need your help with.” I said, filling curiosity in his face. “Be my boyfriend, the first step toward revenge.” I added to which I was responded to by a cough from him. Oh, he didn’t see that coming, I suppose. A grin flashed my face when I thought of something naughty. “Having a boyfriend with a bad reputation… Specifically, that certain rumor…” I murmured. Everyone knows about the rumor of this man, where he drove someone to death–I don’t even care now if that’s true or not. One thing is for sure, I can use that for revenge. Matthew was just silent with my utterance, though I believe he heard those words. “Not a problem. You have my cooperation with that.” A few seconds after, he clicked his agreement, making me struck with another realization. “Hang on, won’t that worsen your reputation?” I asked as my eyes narrowed at him. “I’m an ex-convict accused of a freaking theft, while you’re… blamed for the death of your friend–according to what I heard. Two people with awful reputations are together… isn’t that weird in the eyes of the public?” “You didn’t actually do it, right?” he asked, which kind of pissed me off. “Of course not! Haven’t you heard me?” “Then, it’s not a problem. Let’s prove their accusations wrong together.” He stated as if it was just nothing to him. I presume that he must be really desperate to have a successor. Well, if it’s not a problem for him, then my worry ends here as well. After all, I can use his reputation to my advantage. “It’s funny how you just thought of proving them wrong now when you could’ve done it three years ago.” I spoke with a dry chuckle. Took him long enough, huh? I wonder why… “My father is determined to throw me out of the company now. I hope that answers your question.” Unexpectedly, he answered, prompting my head to turn in his direction. I looked at him with slightly furrowed brows. This is utterly unexpected… “For a person like you… I can’t believe you can easily say those words to me.” I said with eyes slightly squinted. How can he easily trust me to say those words? “From this moment on, we’re going to be allies. We need to earn each other’s trust.” He remarked. And actually… he’s not wrong for that. An interval of silence took between us for a moment, until he spoke again. “So, when will you start this drama?” I straightened my back before showing him a smile. “First off, you’re right that I have nowhere else to go. So, I do need a house before we start this ‘drama.’”
