CHAPTER 15 The cab pulled up in front of a string of cute townhouses. The one Kenneth indicated as his family’s home was clad in white, with a prominent dormer on the front and a sharply peaked roof. The ones on either side were red brick. Brooke looked up at the house nervously as Kenneth hopped from the taxi, circled around the back and opened the door for her. “Come on,” he urged. Drawing in a deep breath, she said, “Okay.” Then, she accepted his hand and allowed him to escort her out. They moved along the sidewalk toward the front door when a mob of people poured out. Three male youths with matching flat-topped haircuts—obviously Kenneth’s younger brothers—streaked down onto the sidewalk.
