Amen,” Della said. “Amen,” the other family members echoed, and then the boys, starving in the way only young men can be, pounced on the massive quantities of food that crowded the table. “This smells lovely,” Brooke said as the platter of honey ham headed her direction. She accepted a slice and passed it on. Next, she piled up greens, potato salad and cornbread on her plate. “What does your family normally eat at Christmas?” Della asked. “Nothing special,” she replied, not sure how to begin the conversation, or that she even wanted to. “Why do you ask, Granny?” Kenneth asked. “Well, if Brooke is going to be family, we should incorporate some of her traditions as well,”
