Global United used a seven-point loan grading system, where scores for loans and credit relationships were rated anywhere from a loan grade of “1”, where little if any loan risk existed, to a loan grade of “7” that signaled the investment was a “Loss.” The latter required that bank management immediately charge the loan off to credit reserves, and if possible later collect the money owed by whatever legal means remained available. Logan noted that Global United’s credit review department had rated all the AmeriPAK companies a “2”, indicating all of those companies were of “Good Risk”, a rating well above most on the bank’s books.
