When I woke up the next morning, I felt the warmth from the fire on my face. It was still going. John must have tended to it throughout the night. Sitting up, I looked over where John was. He was still sleeping. Glancing at the fire, I noticed that he had been burning blankets. His blankets to be exact. Since there was no wood in the cave, he was using other materials to keep us warm. I got up and grabbed some of the ration meals we had packed. I added water and placed them near the fire. As I was preparing those, John started to stir. His eyes opened and locked on to mine. I felt my body heat up under his intense gaze. When he saw me blush, his eyes started to glow and he got that goofy grin on his face. Suddenly, I had the memory of that man flash through my head and I winced in pain.
