Chapter 9: I don't believe you

1356 Words
Michael It's been almost ten minutes since Maddox went to the cellar to get his mate but until now he still hasn't come back. I don’t know what Maddox is up to right now that it’s taking him too long to get back. I can't help but wonder if Maddox decided to just flee away with his mate, but if he's thinking about running away from the pack then he should have done that yesterday when I wasn't still here. >Maddox.Promise me you're not gonna do anything to my mate, Michael.Don't try my patience, Maddox. There's still a lot of paper works that I need to do, bring your mate here right now.< I commanded him in an authoritative tone of voice before I finally shut off the pack link between the two of us because I don't want to hear any more grunts and complaints from him. A few moments later, I heard the door of my office creaking and Maddox slowly walks in while a small woman was hiding behind Maddox's large body. I can't see her face very well. "Show yourself, rogue," I commanded the woman that cause her to flinch, Maddox is looking at me right now as if he's shooting daggers through his eyes. "Michael, she has a name," Maddox said obviously annoyed because I called his mate a rogue. "Okay, what's your name rogue?" I asked the woman and I couldn't help but grin when I saw Maddox's grim expression. "My mate's name is Elena and it means a shining light in Greek," Maddox responded quickly and I can't help but raise my brows at him. "I never thought you're the kind of guy who googles the meaning of his mate's name, Maddox," I commented and heaved a sigh just because the woman didn't seem to have any intention of showing herself and just want to hide behind Maddox's large body forever. "Your mate's trying to test my patience, Maddox," I said emphatically to Maddox and stared into his eyes to convey that I was not happy with what was happening right now. I saw Maddox swallow his saliva and then turn around to face his mate. "Hey mate, it's okay. Michael just wants to talk to you, everything's gonna be fine." Maddox said trying to comfort Elena–his mate. "Hi," Elena greeted me in a weak voice as she slowly slipped away from hiding behind Maddox's large body. "You're Maddox's mate?" I asked Elena but instead of answering me she just looked at Maddox as if she's asking him permission to speak. Maddox nodded slowly to Elena. "Yes, we're mates," Elena replied to me. "You're not planning on rejecting him?" I asked Elena again that leaves Maddox in shock. I suddenly feel guilty for asking his mate about rejecting him when I saw the fear and nervousness in his face. But I already said it and I can't take it back anymore. "Michael," "What? I'm just curious what she's gonna do now that she found her mate." I replied to Maddox and then looked at Elena with curiosity. "I don't know, the thought of rejecting Maddox never cross my mind. I mean, they say that if someone rejects their mates then it will cause them too much pain, I don't want Maddox to be in pain." Elena replied and I can see the proud smile slowly protruding on Maddox's lips, he is overjoyed to hear Elena's response. "That's good to know," I said. As time goes on I can’t help but notice that Elena doesn’t reek of the stinky smells of the rogues, it was as if she wasn’t a rogue at all. "Can you show me your wolf's eyes?" I asked Elena out of curiosity, Elena looked at Maddox again. "It's okay, show us your wolf's eyes, mate," Maddox said calmly to her. "That's the problem, I can't show you my wolf's eyes," Elena replied hesitantly causing me to frown, when I looked at Maddox he just shrugged his shoulder and it seems like he doesn't have any idea as to why his mate doesn't want to show her wolf's eyes to us. There is only one thing that I can think of right now why Elena doesn't want us to see her wolf's eyes, maybe Maddox lied to me when he said that the wolf's eyes of his mate are blue and that she is not feral. "Why not, Elena?" I ask her. "It's not that I don't want to show it to you. It's just that I can only turn into my werewolf form every full moon which already happened last night." Elena replied to me. Maddox and I both had the same expression when we heard what she just said, our foreheads furrowed as we both stared at Elena in confusion. "What does that mean?" Maddox asked his mate. "I know this sounds crazy but I wasn't born a werewolf. I am a witch, my mother cast a spell on me and turned me into a werewolf but there's no such thing as a perfect spell, I can only turn into my werewolf form during the full moon." Elena confessed and a deafening silence surround us until I could no longer hold myself and I burst into laughter. "That's quite a nice story, Elena," I commented and just leaned on the swivel chair while Maddox was just looking at Elena with furrowed brows still processing every word in Elena's confession. "You don't believe me? Well, you're not the first. But I am telling you the truth, I have proofs." Elena said with conviction and then she turned around and slowly lifted her dress. I heard Maddox gasp upon seeing the wounds and bruises on Elena's back, I can still smell the fresh blood dripping from her wounds. "Those wounds were last night. Why aren't you healing?" Maddox asked Elena suddenly feeling anxious about her. "I wasn't born a werewolf, I don't have all the perks that a natural born werewolf have. My wounds don't heal after an hour, this would take weeks or maybe months." Elena replied and then she slowly lowered the dress she was wearing, avoiding the fabric to touch the wounds on her back. "I will f*****g kill, Henry," Maddox said with gritted teeth. "You should thank him though," I said and Maddox instantly look at me with glaring eyes and a flaring nose, it seems like he is ready to attack me any moment from now. "What? I mean if Henry didn't capture her then you wouldn't even meet your mate. Henry is just doing his job and you're not going to take this against him, Maddox." I said to him emphatically. Maddox took a deep breath and then he slowly nodded. "Fair enough, we're quits then," Maddox replied. "Okay, I'm not saying that I don't believe you, Elena. But the thing is you're still a rogue so let me walk you back to the cellar." I said and Maddox was about to object when Elena suddenly hold his hand and gently caress it before motioning to Maddox to not do anything anymore. "Okay," Maddox said and took a deep breath, "but can you wait outside, mate? I just need to talk to Michael." Elena just nodded and then she walked out of my mini office here in the penthouse.
