Chapter 4

That got his attention. He turned back around and walked back towards me. "Aw, don't be like that, baby. I figured if you were buying this gym-rat a drink, you could buy me one too." Who the f**k does this guy think he is? God's gift to women? He was good-looking, I'd give him that, but he knew it, which made him unattractive in my eyes. You could tell he was used to getting his way because the next thing I said totally wiped the smirk off his face. "If that's supposed to be some kind of pickup line, it sucks! And I'm most certainly not paying for your drink as*hole." He walked closer to me and looked me up and down. "Seems like someone needs to get laid," he said in a deep tone, coming closer to me. He clearly thought he was being seductive but nothing about him, or this situation was a turn on. I pulled away, not wanting this guy's face anywhere near me. BJ was about to step in, and I knew that would just cause a fight, so I did the only thing I could think of. I grabbed BJ by the collar and pulled him towards me and kissed him right on the lips. When I finally let him go, I looked right in pretty-boys eyes. "Maybe I do. But it sure as hell won't be by you." BJ snaked his arm around my waist, pulling me closer with a huge smirk on his face. Pretty-boy reluctantly pulled out his wallet and threw some cash on the bar, never taking his eyes off me before finally walking away. BJ didn't drop his arm from around my waist when the guy finally walked away, and I was starting to get a little uncomfortable. Oh, God. What did I just do? I hope I didn't give him the wrong idea with that kiss. Pretty-boy was finally lost in the crowd, and BJ finally dropped his arm from around my waist. I think that is when I finally let out the breath I was holding. "I'm so sorry for that." I looked at BJ with pleading eyes, hoping that he didn't read more into that kiss than what it really was. He laughed. "I know you just got divorced, and I've wanted to kiss you for so long, but I also know you're not ready for anything right now. Until you are, I'll be your scapegoat any time you need one." He smiled, kissed me on the cheek, and walked back to our table like nothing had happened. I turned back to the bartender to pay for my drink and get a replacement one for Candice, but the bartender handed me another beer and told me they were already taken care of. I knew BJ must have paid for them when he paid for the drinks he ordered, so when I got back to the table and sat down, I rejoined the conversation like nothing had just happened at the bar. I leaned closer to him and whispered 'thank you' when Candice and Dom were going on about something. He just leaned his shoulder into me a little and gave me a little bump on my shoulder in acknowledgment. The rest of the night, Candice and I bar-hopped and danced the night away. BJ and Dom followed from bar to bar, but that was probably because Candice had been flirting, HARD, with Dom all night. We ended up back at the first bar we went to, and finally, at last call, Candice looked straight at Dom and said, "You're coming home with me." I could only roll my eyes. She had only just broken up with her boyfriend and was already back to her old ways. "Oh, don't look at me like that," she said to me. "The best way to get over someone is to get under someone else," she said to me with a wink before bursting into laughter. I couldn't help but laugh, too. "I've gotta pee before we head home," I told her. The guys went out front and ordered us a ride since we had all been drinking, while Candice went with me to the ladies' room. Lucky for us, we ran into the guy I had words with at the bar at the start of the night. "I knew you'd come to your senses, baby," he purred while we walked past him and into the hallway where the bathrooms were. "In your dreams," I replied before going into the ladies' room. Of course, that sparked some questions, so I filled her in on what had happened earlier at the bar. "You kissed BJ? How was it?" "Honestly, like kissing a brother. Not that I know what that's like, but it just felt wrong. I felt..... nothing at all. I've never seen BJ or Dom in any kind of way other than like a kid brother. But he helped me out of the situation with that douchebag, so I'm thankful for that." She gave me a sympathetic smile before we walked out the bathroom door. Pretty-boy was still there. Waiting like a predator. I took a deep breath, knowing this wasn't good. I grabbed Candice by the hand and headed down the hallway. As I thought, Pretty-boy stepped in front of us, blocking the way out. "I like the ones that play hard to get. Makes it that much more satisfying when you're screaming my name. Your friend here can come along too. There's plenty of me to go around," he said with a smirk on his face, like he thought I'd find what he just said sexy or something. "Thanks, but no, thanks. Now, if you'd kindly move, our dates are waiting for us," I told him. But that just made him angry. You could see it in his eyes he was about to do something I wasn't going to like. He made a move to grab me, but before he could, he was pulled backward. The next thing I heard was a loud *BAM*. At first, I thought maybe BJ or Dom came back in to tell us our ride was here and saw what was happening, but to my surprise, the bartender, who had got me the drinks when this guy first stole my beer, was standing in front of Pretty-boy on the floor. "I've asked you nicely to leave my bar. Now, I'm not being so nice," the bartender told the guy lying on the ground as two police officers came in and picked him up off the floor, each grabbing an arm. I faintly heard the police officers telling the guy he was being trespassed and was no longer welcome on the property. If he showed up again, he'd be arrested. I couldn't pull my attention from him as he was being escorted out, knowing this could have turned bad. Really quick.
