Have you ever wondered what it's like to not be human? To have superpowers and fly? Or be invisible and read peoples' minds? Yeah, me neither. The thought never occurred to me until the day I turned seven when I got a wonder woman toy figure. It's interesting, really. What if I was Superman? Or Batman, even? Saving humans from evil creatures. Flying around town in a cape. But that was all in my imagination. I've heard countless stories about villains and heroes but it all turned out to be a myth. In the supernatural world, where being worshiped by others in human form, anything can deem possible.
"Ari! How about this dress?!" Caroline shouted to me. In her left arm, laid a long sleeveless and lacy red dress. We were out for a girls night together and decided to go shopping in the town's most popular mall.
"That's so pretty, C! It would look stunning on you," I squealed.
"I know it will! I'm gonna go try it on."
As Caroline nearly sprinted to the dressing room, I continued to browse through the racks full of clothes. We've been shopping for two hours and I haven't bought a single item. Caroline, on the other hand, already has two bagful of new clothes that she is dying to wear. I spotted a black leather jacket that caught my attention. It fitted my perfectly petite body but when I saw how much it cost, I immediately put it back on the rack.
Too expensive. I'm not broke or anything, I'm just careful with my money. I'm not the type of girl who waste money on pretty clothes, or anything for that matter.
"Yo, Ari! Where you at girl? Come look at this dress," I heard Caroline yell at me.
I walked towards the direction of her voice and found her standing in the stunning red dress.
I stared at her gorgeous figure in dazzling awe. "Oh my gosh, you look so adorable, C. You should totally buy it," I told her, with the biggest, goofiest smile on my face.
"Thanks boo, I will definitely buy it."
"Tyler's eyes will literally pop out when he sees you in that dress."
A faint blush grew on her face when I mentioned her boyfriend's name. She and her boyfriend have been dating for five months and I'm not going to lie, they're the cutest couple. While as for me, I'm still single and had never been kissed in my whole entire life. Not because I'm not pretty or anything, I'm just not interested and too focus on other things like my education.
Caroline and I are both twenty one, though she is only a day older than me. Our parents known each other since they've met in university and became close friends instantly. Our moms got pregnant at the same time, coincidentally.
We've been close friends ever since we were babies. We would always play around together, laugh at each other's jokes even when they're not really that funny, and hang out together. We do literally everything together. We've showered together before, sleep together, eat and play together, watch movies together, and more. She's my best friend and I wouldn't give her up for anything.
After a few more hours of browsing racks and roaming around the mall, I bought myself a nice pair of shoes that wasn't too expensive but it definitely caught my eyes. We got tired of walking and were done shopping so we walked towards the nearest entrance and waited for Caroline's mom to pick us up.
Oh, did I mention that we live right next door to each other? Guess not.
The weather was particularly warm today, typical in California. The hot sun shone down on us as I lowered my gaze to the ground, away from the sunlight. It was really hot and humid outside. I heard the sounds of birds chirping and the tires of cars as I watched people drive past. I could feel sweat pouring down my face as I raised a hand up to wipe them away.
A car beeped and we turned as Caroline's mom rolled her window down, motioning her right hand at us to get in the car.
A few moments later, after Caroline's mom dropped us off, I headed to my bedroom and closed the door behind me.
I changed into more comfortable clothes and went into the bathroom to wash the sweat off of my face. I heard a soft knock on my door as I sat down on my bed.
"Come in!" I shouted.
The door open and my little sister, Emma walked in.
Emma is six years old and she is absolutely adorable. She has the squishiest cheeks ever and a bubbly personality. I adore her. I've promised myself once to always protect her at all cost and don't let anything happen to her. I wouldn't forgive myself if anything bad happens to her.
"Emma! I miss you!" I gushed at her as she crawled onto my lap. I pinched her cheeks and she started to giggle. " Sissy miss you boo."
Her gigantic dark eyes twinkled a little. " I wanna play, Ella," she said in the sweetest voice ever. She calls me Ella, a nickname that she gave me last year.
"What do you wanna play, Em?"
She wrapped her tiny arms around my neck. " I wanna cook."
I raised my eyebrows at her. " You wanna cook, Em? I don't think mommy and daddy would like that."
"They not here."
"We wouldn't want to burn down the whole house now, do we?"
She poked out her bottom lip and I copied her actions. "How about this, we can go watch T.V. where they have cooking shows."
"Yeeee! I love that! Go go go!"
I laughed at her behavior and carried her to the couch. I flipped through multiple channels until we stopped upon a cooking show where a woman is teaching the audience how to make homemade cookies.
"Yum yum!" Emma squealed.

The next day at school, rumors were going around that there was a new guy attending Justice University and saying that he was so gorgeous looking and every female would gawk at his stunning features. I'd ignore all the gossip and just went to class.
'Its all bullshit anyways,' I thought to myself.
Class was absolutely boring today and I couldn't wait to get this day over with.
When the bell rang, announcing that it's lunch time, I made my way towards my locker where I always wait for Caroline and her boyfriend, Tyler. A few people walked pass me as I put my textbooks into my locker and I couldn't help but eavesdrop a little into their conversation.
"Omg, have you heard about the new guy?" Somebody whispered.
"Yeah, I heard he's drop dead gorgeous and he just transferred here."
"I heard he's really nice and he even helped a girl pick up her book when she accidentally dropped them."
I rolled my eyes and shut my locker.
I saw Caroline and Tyler walking towards me, hand in hand. I gave them a quick smile as I went to join them and we made our way towards the cafeteria.
"Have you heard about the recent gossip lately, Ari?" Caroline ask me.
I scoffed silently. "About the new guy? Yeah. Looks like everyone's freaking out about how drop dead gorgeous he looks."
Caroline laughed. "They're not lying, truthfully. I saw him today. He's in my math class and not gonna lie, he's pretty cute."
Tyler looked at her with a little jealousy in his eyes. "So, what you're trying to say is I'm not cute?" He stated playfully, acting hurt.
"Aww babe, you know I'll always have my eyes on you." Caroline went in to peck his cheek.
"That's more like it, " Tyler joked.
We arrived in the cafeteria and Caroline suddenly grabbed my hand.
"What's the matter, C?" I turned towards her.
"There's the new guy. Over there," she pointed towards a crowd that was beginning to form.
I turned my head slightly to see where she was pointing to and I think my breath stopped a bit. Among the crowd, sat a gorgeous guy with dark hair wearing a normal black t-shirt. His eyes are on his phone, completely oblivious of what's going on around him.
'Oh my good. He's so good looking,' I thought.
As in sensing what I was thinking, his eyes suddenly looked up at me before I could look away. I heard my breath hitch and everything seems to stop moving.
His eyes are stunning blue and they shine against the cafeteria lights. I turned to look away but not before I saw the ends of mouth turn up to a slight smirk.
