"God, did he just smirked at you?" Caroline repeated, making our way towards our usual table.
"I don't know what you're talking about," I answered vaguely.
"Quit playing dumb. He totally smirked at you girl."
Without saying anything, I took a bite out of my sandwich.
Caroline and Tyler started their own conversation about what they're planning to do over the weekend. I lowered my head slowly and carried on taking multiple bites out of my mouthwatering sandwich. The hairs on the back of my neck suddenly stood up when I felt a disturbing gaze staring at me. I glanced upward and found myself zoning out into them ocean eyes.
His disheveled hair. 'To die for,' I thought.
As in reading my thoughts for the second time that day, he raised one perfectly arched eyebrow at me. It felt like the whole weight of everything has just been lifted off of my shoulders and gravity is pulling me further up and up. I couldn't break the graze. I felt myself melting slowly like an ice cube in the hot sun.
"Ariella!" Somebody shouted loudly. " Hello? Earth to Ariella."
I finally broke out of my sudden trance and found Caroline's big green eyes staring at me.
"Ooh, daydreaming about the new guy?" Caroline teased me.
I nearly choked on my food. "Of course not. Why would I?"
"You're the world's biggest liar."
"Am not."
"Am too."
I sighed and gave Caroline a fake teasing smile.
"So Ari, you wanna hang out at the pool Saturday? Everybody's invited."
"Sorry, I don't think I can. Busy."
"Busy with what? Girl, lets go party."
"I just told you I can't."
"Please? Come for me? We'll have fun, I promise." She poked out her bottom lip and gave me her evil smile.
"Fine," I sighed. "Just this once."
"Yay!" She squealed, giving me a side hug. "I'll text you the address and time later. You can bring anyone you want."
The final bell rang, signalling the end of the school day. I'm so glad I don't have any classes with the new boy and haven't bumped into him. I hurriedly packed all my stuff into my bag and walked out to wait for Caroline. Caroline and I decided to walk home together today. Tyler has football practice so he couldn't come along with us.
I waited near the main gates and pull out my phone to keep me busy as other students stroll out the gates.
I put my phone back in my back pocket because I saw Caroline walking down the front steps of the school, waving goodbye to her friends.
"Ari!" She called, running to catch up with me.
We walked out the main gate and down the sidewalk.
"So do you have any classes with the new guy?"
"Nope."
"I heard his name is Joaquin Sullivan."
"Nice name."
Caroline gave me a disapproving look. "Come on Ari, he totally looked at you during lunch today. At least pretend to show some interest. If I wasn't with Tyler right now, I would've hit him up."
"Ooh, saucy." I wiggled my eyebrows at her and gave her a little shove.
"Oh shut up."
"Just sayi-" I started but before I can say anything else, I felt a hand tugg at mine and next thing I know, I was running with an unfamiliar guy- a complete stranger.
"Hey! Ariella!" I heard Caroline shout from behind me.
I started to panic. I dropped my bag on the ground and tried to pry the unknown guy's hands off of my wrist. "Get the hell off of me, you sick bastard!"
I went to grab the back of his neck but his strength was too strong and he pushed me stumbling backwards and I ended up falling on my ass. I kicked my legs at his shin and he hissed out in pain.
"You f*****g b***h! I'll make sure you'll regret this!" He spat at my face. His eyes turned golden and when he opened his mouth, I saw fangs.
"Where the f**k are you taking me?" I asked the stranger.
"To the leader, mate."
"Too bad, I'm not going." I got up and began to turn when he grab my neck.
One of his hands grabbed ahold of my neck as his other hand started twirling my hair. I silently prayed that someone would see us and call for help but we were too far away from the school and we were somewhere where not a lot of people are roaming about.
My phone beeped. 'Oh s**t, I forgot about my phone.'
With my free hand, I grabbed my phone but before I could unlock it, my phone was thrown onto the floor.
"Hey!" I yelled. "That's my f*****g phone, you dipshit."
"Darling, I suggest you play nice and follow my orders or I'll kill you," he snarled.
He put a strong hold onto the wrist he was holding and tugged me towards God knows where.
I didn't even put up a fight knowing that I'm not going to win. It seems like hours had passed already until we arrived at what seemed like somebody's house- or mansion, to be exact. This place is humongous and it looks like ten families can live here.
The stranger whom I still don't know the name of, grabbed my forearm and pulled me inside the big, brown double doors.
I gasped in surprise. There was a party going on. Everyone seems to be dressed up and dancing around the big area. Music was blasting from the speakers. Couples were lounging on the couch making out. A group of people, dressed formally, were surrounding the kitchen.
It seems like I was the only one underdressed. I stared down at my nonprofessional clothing that consists of a random white shirt that I randomly selected from my closet, regular fitted jeans that covers my entire legs, and black Nikes. There was small patches of dirt on my jeans from when I fell.
"Don't do anything stupid or something you'll regret," somebody whispered into my ear. I had totally forgot about the stranger that pulled me here.
"Why the hell did you bring me here? What am I even doing here?" I asked angrily, rage starting to build inside of me.
"Oh, you'll find out soon enough, I promise," was his only answer.
"You f*****g kidn*pped me! And took me to a random party to get drunk at? What's the matter with you?"
"You better shut that mouth up or else."
"Or else what?! Are you trying to threaten me?! Because I promise you, I'm not scared of you, punk! Somebody's bound to notice that I'm missing and get the police involved and your pity little ass is gonna get screwed!" I snarled at him in disgust.
Eyes started to turn my way and suddenly the whole atmosphere transformed into something different.
"Keep your act up and I'll beat the living hell out of you."
Before I can come up with another thing to say, the lights suddenly got dimmer, the music stopped, and people stopped dancing and moving around.
'What the hell is happening?' I thought.
I turned towards the stranger to get answers but he just gave me a wicked smile and walked away. I stood there uncomfortably and thoughts started to form in my head about escaping through the doors.
A few seconds later, somebody turned on the lights and I saw four figures standing on the stairs. Three of them were males, one was female.
My eyes widened when I saw who I was looking at. One of the guys, was the new guy from school. His dark brown hair had been brushed back but his face features were the same from the last time I saw him. He was wearing a black suit with a red and black tie. His blue eyes shined like glitter.
The guy standing next to him has blonde hair, long enough to tie up in a ponytail and similar blue eyes. He has one earring on his right ear and a tattoo under his left eye. He wore a white tuxedo with a white and pink tie to match with it.
The last guy has curly light brown hair and hazel eyes. He wore a blue suit with a blue and black tie.
The girl with her green eyes and pink dress that reached down to her knees stood out to the crowd. Her long blonde hair had been curled and it falls down behind her shoulder to her waist.
The four of them looks like they're related to each other, each with their appealing looks.
All four of them made their way down the steps as I took a short step back and found my back against the wall. I didn't want to be seen so I lowered myself down to the point where nobody would be able to see me.
"Hello ladies and gentlemen!" The guy with blonde hair greeted the crowd. "Thank you all for attending this ball! As you all may know, we hosted this ball for our youngest brother here, Joaquin Sullivan, to find his keeper!"
The whole crowd hooted and hollered. The guy kept going. "Whom ever Joaquin decides to be his keeper will come up here and stand next to him! We shall see who the lucky winner is!"
The crowd scream and I scoured back into my tiny corner. Then everything got quiet as Joaquin's eyes wondered around the room to find his keeper, or whatever. He looked at everyone's eyes before they landed on me in the back corner. I wanted to look away but couldn't. My heart was beating so fast.
"You."
