The Girl Nobody Sees
The bell rang and Lincoln High exploded. Mia Carter hugged her books to her chest and ducked her head. Invisible. That was the plan. Get in, get A's, get out. No friends. No drama. Just senior year and a scholarship to get her out of this town. She was halfway down the hall when a football crashed past her ear. "Watch it!" Jake Bennett. Quarterback. Rich. And the guy everyone at Lincoln High wanted to be or wanted to date. He was leaning against the lockers with his team, laughing like he owned the place. Probably because he did. Mia didn't look up. Badboys like Jake didn't notice girls like her. "Yo, new girl," someone called. "Principal wants you." Her stomach dropped. The scholarship letter. It was supposed to be private. Inside the office, Principal Hayes looked tired. "Miss Carter, there's been... an issue. To keep your scholarship, you need to tutor Jake Bennett. His grades are failing. If he doesn't pass, the school loses funding. And so do you." Mia blinked. "Tutor Jake Bennett?" "The same." The principal slid a paper across. "Starting today. After school. Library. Don't be late." That evening, Mia was waiting at a library table with her books spread out when the door slammed open. Jake Bennett walked in. Jersey, messy hair, and that smirk that made half the girls in school lose their minds. He looked at her. At her glasses. At her stack of notes. And he smirked. "You? You're supposed to help me pass?" He dropped into the chair across from her. "This is gonna be interesting, bookworm." Mia straightened her glasses. "And you're gonna be passing, Mr. Bennett. Whether you like it or not." Outside, the rain started to fall. And so did trouble.✅
