DAMIAN
My heart burned with pain.
Indeed, the world was a cruel place. It never worked in the way we planned for it to. It always had surprises to ruin one’s plans.
For eighteen good years, I searched for the Black Fur pack but they never surfaced. I had hoped to run into them in the woods outside my territory. I had hoped to find even a guard from Black Fur but I never found them. Even though I had deliberately roamed the woods alone; they never came.
Yet today, when I finally gather information on them; Nora shows up.
Was the universe toying with me? Was my life a joke? Two innocent people had to die because of this information. A lot of other people got hurt in the process too. Why did she not show up before that? What was her real motive here? Why did she choose now of all times? What was I supposed to do with her?
Questions seized my thoughts. They were endless. It was like another form of torture. I had told myself that the day I found the information I needed, my happiness would begin but it had come with another burden.
I angrily wiped away the tears that had escaped my eyes. I was still standing outside of my territory trying to process everything.
I looked up at the starless sky. I guessed even the heavens could feel my sad ordeal. I let out a shudder that came from deep within me.
“Nora, where have you been hiding all this time?” I asked myself out loud.
Nora used to be my friend. I cared about her. She was probably the only friend I had before everything went south. I remembered her smile from that night.
Had she known about the poison the entire time? She did not eat the food with my parents. She must have known. Why did she not alert me on time about it? Was I the only one who thought about her as a friend at that time?
If it was so, then she was probably dangerous. I needed to find my Beta. He was the best at making people talk; even if it took him so long to make Stefan talk.
I turned away from the dark woods that laid beyond my territory and walked back in through the large heavy gates that were slightly open. Guards were lined along the large walls we had built around the new Silver Moon pack.
“Lock the door. No one leaves, no one comes in,” I ordered the guards.
They bowed in response and began locking the great doors. I turned to the head of the guards who was giving them instructions.
“Kelvin, have you seen Dan?” I asked him.
He scratched his chin as he tried to remember the last time he saw him. He was a large man with an ugly scar on his left cheek. The scar made him look aggressive but he was a kind man.
“I think he went back to the palace,” Kelvin answered in his deep and heavy voice.
I nodded and decided to walk back to the palace. It was not long before I made it back to the palace. It was not far from the border while the main civilization was in the center. I chose to have it that way so that my people will be more protected than I.
The palace stood tall in all its glory and as I walked in, the guards I passed bowed immediately and I only nodded in response. I made my way in and found Dan at the private lounge on the third floor.
His nose flared with anger as he downed his transparent wine. His grip on the glass cup was strong and I feared that it would break. He looked like he was waiting for a reason to crack and go on a killing rampage.
“Dan,” I began as I took a sit beside him.
He stopped and gave me a bland gaze. “My Alpha,” he acknowledged my presence.
“You’re angry because I did not let you attack her?” I questioned him.
“She’s the f*****g daughter of our most wanted criminal! Should I be dancing and putting up a show for her instead?” He demanded.
I raised my brows at his tone. When Dan was angry, he always forgot that I was the Alpha and he was the Beta. I tilted my head at him and gave him a dangerous glare to warn him about knowing his place. He started blinking continuously. He understood his mistake.
“She’s not the one we want. It’s her father we want,” I reminded him.
“She still has his filthy blood running through her veins! She deserves whatever her father has coming for him,” he shot back.
I gritted my teeth at him. I did not know if he had a point but his anger was justified. Alpha Derrick took someone from him too.
The thought of Alpha Derrick only brought back pain to my heart. My desire for revenge increased but I could not let it cloud my judgement. For even fur would not back me up on this.
“We don't know if she had a hand in all the evil he has done,” I protested.
Dan stared at me as if I was going crazy. Maybe I was.
“You are joking right?” Dan asked and let out a sarcastic laugh. “You of all people should want her dead the most. After everything they did to you! They tricked your parents! He used his daughter to get to you! Then he killed them all in cold blood like their lives were worthless. He even tried to kill you too but you escaped! You've suffered the most because of that bloody pack! How can you sit here and defend her? Why are you even trying to defend her in the first place?” he exclaimed in an outburst.
“Enough!” I roared and got to my feet abruptly.
I gritted my teeth nonstop. Dan was right. Why was I trying to defend her so much? Why was I trying to find a reason to keep her alive?
