"Before I question you, I strongly advise that you tell me the truth," he breathed down my neck.

I closed my eyes as the scent of his cologne played with my senses. Excluding the fact that I was at risk of death, it seemed almost like a normal romantic meeting...

Nora Blackwood runs away from her father's pack and straight into the arms of the one Alpha who has every reason to kill her...

Eighteen years ago, Alpha Derrick slaughtered an entire family in cold blood. Now, his only daughter just walked straight into the hands of the lucky sole survivor of his mass slaughter.

Damian lost everything that night — his parents, his home, his best friend. Now, fate has delivered Alpha Derrick's daughter to his doorstep, chained and begging for mercy. Killing her would be easy. Using her would be smart.

But falling for her was never part of the plan.

As Nora fights to survive in enemy territory, she starts to notice things that don't add up — a gentleness in her captor's eyes, a familiar warmth in his touch, a name she buried eighteen years ago.

With her father hunting her down and a Council baying for her blood, Nora has one chance at survival: the very Alpha sworn to destroy everything she stands for.

CHAPTER 1 - RUNNING
NORA Like every other night in the Black Fur pack, the sky was starless. I could hear my wolf mutter some curse words in my head and I couldn’t blame her much for it. The sight of my father, Alpha Derrick kissing an old witch was enough to make the both of us sick. I turned away before Khaliya could make an eye contact with me but it was too late. She had seen me watching them and she smiled. “You care to join us princess?” she offered. Her two tongues slithered like a snake’s as she talked and the thought of that thing in my dad’s mouth made me want to puke. Disgusting. “I’d rather join the warriors,” I grunted and turned away. My father disconnected from her and turned to stare at me. “Go get me a glass of wine Khaliya honey,” he smiled at the witch. She smiled back at him and stood up to get the wine and he turned back to face me. “You know you’re not very nice to her,” he eyed me. I didn’t reply him. I tried my best to focus on the food I was eating. I couldn’t bring myself to look up at the many scars on his bare chest and for some weird reason, he didn’t want to wear his shirt at dinner. “Answer me Nora!” “I don’t know!” I blurted out angrily. “Why would you bring her to dinner? As if I haven’t seen enough of the two of you already.” He looked around quickly to make sure no one was eavesdropping before he leaned over to me. “We need her to stay safe,” he grunted. I could sense the desperation in his voice and I knew what it meant. We had lots of enemies. “I don’t know,” I shrugged. “We need to do something else. Maybe we shouldn’t have gathered so much enemies in the first place.” “It was inevitable,” my father replied. “No it wasn’t!” I cried standing up from the table. “Eighteen years ago, you murdered a whole family in cold blood! Alpha Michael was stronger than you and he could have easily killed us all if he wanted but no, he offered for peace, and then you went into his own home and killed him. You killed my best friend.” “I didn’t kill your friend,” he laughed. “Maybe I would have spared his life. He was stupid enough to jump down from the highest building in the whole world. A pity his bones were never found to be buried.” I frowned and went back to my food, my eyes blurry with tears. I shouldn’t have started a conversation I was not ready to complete. Eighteen years later and I could still see the lightning that flashed that night as Damian jumped down from the window. I could still see the pained look on the face of Alpha Michael as he choked on his own blood, and I could see his wife wasting away on the floor, her insides being eaten out by the most dangerous poison in the whole of the pack. I wondered how Damian would have looked if he was still alive. He had this long jet black hair and deep blue eyes that made him look so different, so special. He was my best friend and even though I knew that mating was not by choice, I hoped he was my mate. But thanks to my father, everything had come crashing down in hours. I should have known better anyways. I should have suspected that something was wrong on that night eighteen years ago when he warned me not to eat as much as a spoon, but I adhered to his instructions with the innocence of a seven year old, not knowing what was going to happen in a matter of minutes. “Don’t think about it too much honey,” Khaliya said. I looked up to see that she was holding a bottle of wine and two glasses. “You,” I pointed at her. “You planned this all.” “Anything for the love of my life,” Khaliya smiled and kissed my father. From the way he hunched his nose when he kissed her, I could tell that he didn’t feel a thing for her and I felt a little bit of pity for the old witch. My father was only using her. I stood up from the table. I had barely touched my food but I had seen enough of their love play. “Where are you going?” My father asked, stopping me dead in my tracks. “Give him a piece of your mind!” Nala screamed in my head. “Tell him what you think of him and his relationship. He’s a piece of shit.” Nala was my wolf and I had just learnt how to communicate with her about three years ago. Before then, everyone in the pack had given up on me ever shifting to my werewolf form but it came as a surprise the day it happened. “I’m going to my room,” I replied. “I have to study.” “You’ve not eaten a thing, Miss,” my father said. “Sit down and eat or you won’t be leaving this table tonight.” I knew my father well. Alpha Derrick never made requests. It was a command. I picked up my spoon in one last attempt to get something in my stomach and Khaliya chose that moment to intensify her kiss with my father. That was definitely it. I stood up from the table again and met with my father’s cold piercing gaze. “I said sit down and eat!” He commanded. “Run, Nora!” Nala screamed in my head. “Run far away.” “Nora!” my father boomed. I took one quick look at him and shook my head. I couldn’t continue living like a slave in my own pack. In one quick movement, I dragged the table cloth on the dining, spilling the hot food and bottle of wine on their bodies and in the midst of the confusion, I made for the door.
