CHAPTER 4 - A FIT OF RAGE

1048 Words
DAMIAN I balled my fingers into fist. The rage I was feeling inside was slowly building and I had to do something about it soon. My rage was directed at my parents’ murderer, his daughter and myself. Why was I trying to protect Nora? When she had the chance to protect me, she chose to keep quiet. So why did I care? “I say we use her as a hostage. I'm sure Derrick is looking for his daughter as we speak. We can use it to lure him into a trap. That way, we can finish him up immediately,” Dan suggested. I wished it was that simple. I could have easily done that and put an end to the story. “You've forgotten he has a witch by his side. We don't have any information on the kind of power she possesses. We only know she can hide things from people; illusions. She can probably do more. Derrick probably has other things up his sleeve. We can't just go in blind. My motive is not to lose here. I want to win. I want to defeat him. I want to make him pay. For that to successfully happen, we need more information,” I explained. Dan’s anger seemed to start subsiding. He clutched his t-shirt as he thought about what I had just said. Then he looked up at me. “You are right. He probably has other things we don't know about. He's dangerous,” he agreed. I smiled at him. He was getting it now. Dan always liked thinking with his fists than his head. It was never always about strength, I needed smartest if I wanted to defeat my enemy. “As it is, who do you think will give us information?” I asked him. His eyes lit up with excitement and he abruptly got on his feet. “The bastard’s daughter!” he exclaimed. Suddenly, his smile fell away and he frowned. “What if she's a spy? Maybe her father sent her to get information from us so that he can finish us up,” he added. I stopped smiling too. I had not thought about this possibility. She could be a spy. If she was; then she was even more dangerous. A deadly weapon that we had to handle cautiously. “The more reason why we have to get information out of her,” I answered. Yet I did not like the idea of Nora bleeding because of me. I could not see myself watch Nora get hurt. A memory of her younger self flashed before my eyes and guilt seized me. Was I really about to torture the person I once considered as my friend? “On second thought, I don't think you should go extreme lengths to make her talk. If she's a spy then she's well trained. I have to find another way to make her talk. Another strategy,” I suggested. Dan scrunched his nose up at me. I probably sounded like a stranger to him. I could tell that he wanted to attack me with words but he thought against it. “You want me to make her talk but without extreme torture?” he demanded instead. I nodded in response. He glared at me for a long time before bowing to me. “As you wish, my lord,” he answered and turned to leave. I could not help but wonder at the sarcastic tone he had used to end the conversation. It was as if he had something up his sleeves. I decided to shrug it away. Dan was not a monster. Nora was in good hands. Like Dan, I left the private lounge and headed for my room. It was on the same floor as the lounge and not just anyone was permitted to enter this floor. I walked down the hallway until I reached the last door. I pushed it open and entered my large chamber. There was a large circular bed in the center and sofas arranged against the wall on the far end. Asides the huge space, I was not a fan of luxurious items. I walked into the bathroom and stopped before the sink. I splashed some water on my face and stopped to look into the mirror. I exhaled sharply. I was alone again and my room felt too cold. Suddenly, memories of that night hit me hard. My heart skipped two beats fast and I forgot to breathe. My legs started trembling and I could not move it. Pain seized my legs and I fell to the ground. The pain I felt was like the mixture of a burning sensation and the greatest cramp ever! “It's happening again!” I muttered. The pain kept intensifying and my breathing only got heavier. My body became drenched with sweat. I needed my pills! I needed to get to them. It was on my bedside table. I started pulling myself there with my hands. I was literally crawling on the cold hard ground and my legs burned with pain. I started panting like a person who was having an asthmatic attack and I thought I would just give up and let the worst happen to me. “No, you won't! Get your ass to those pills!” Fur ordered in my head. “I can't! It hurts too much!” I screamed internally back at him. “Don’t give up on me Damien!” he screamed and that was all I needed to keep going. Despite the fact that the pain burned, my hunger for vengeance was stronger and I was not going to let my traumatic disorder get in the way. I reached the table and felt around until I found the pills. I shakily opened it and swallowed two pills before collapsing on the floor. By now, my entire body was trembling and breathing became even harder. So I remained on the cold floor and waited for the pain to slowly sip away. Derrick was the cause of this pain. The trauma of watching my parents die brought this disorder on me. The doctors said it would stop someday when I grew older. I was twenty six and I still had the disorder. . .
