CHAPTER 5 - A LONG NIGHT

1025 Words
NORA What was I thinking when I ran away? They had thrown me into a dirty cell that oozed of dead animals. I did not want to ponder on who had died because I was scared of what I would find. I could have been in my room now, enjoying the warmth that my bed had to offer. At least putting up with my father and his girlfriend did not have to lead to my death. This people could kill me at any time. The fact that the beautiful Alpha cried, showed how much my father had hurt him. What was he going to do to me who was the daughter of his enemy? "You should have not run away!" Nala began again. I rolled my eyes at her. I had ignored her complaints in the woods and now she was back again to blame me. I could not take it anymore. "Like it wasn't your fault!" I exclaimed. The guard who was sitting before my cell threw a glance at me. "What's that, beautiful?" he demanded and a creepy smile crawled up his face. Disgust took over my facial expression as I glared at him. He had a scar on his left eye and his teeth were rotten. He was a man with a massive body and I knew that even if the door to my cell was left open, I could not escape him. When he saw that I was not going to say anything to him, he went back to cleaning his many knives. I let out an involuntary shiver and turned to the small window at the top of the wall. I could not find any stars in the sky. "You have guts blaming me for your situation!" Nala argued. I scoffed. The first time I met Nala was enough to let me know that Nala was a nagging b***h who behaved like a five years old sometimes but I still needed her to survive. She was a part of me. Maybe even the childish part. "If you hadn't told me to run in the first place then I would have stormed back to my room," I shot back inwardly. There was no need for me to have my conversations outwardly where the annoying creepy guard could overhear. "I only told you to run! Run as in back to your room but the drama Queen had to run away from home!" She accused me. I gasped. I was the drama queen? Nala was the drama queen and I was the quiet one! How I wished that Nala could become a real person so I could give her a piece of me in battle. Not that I was a good warrior. "You know what? I'm done with you! I can't put up with this toxic relationship anymore!" I exclaimed inwardly. "Wow! Nora, I'm toxic? Fine, I'm just going to retreat to the darkness part of your mind and watch you fail without me since I can't disappear!" she yelled in my head. "That's very fine by me. There will finally be peace and quiet in there. I don't need you!" I yelled back at her and turned my attention back to the sky through the window. I hoped that I could see the moon and pray to the goddess to protect me. She had to listen to me. I had been nothing but a good child. I always gave her offerings on every ceremony. She was the only one who could save me now. I did not want to die and I did not want to go back home to my father either. Suddenly, I caught the sound of footsteps approaching us. I pushed all my thoughts away as I waited for whoever it was to show themselves. For some reason, I felt a coldness sip through my bones. It was the kind of coldness that was accompanied by fear. I let out another shudder as the silhouette of the man became visible down the poorly lit hallway that housed other cells. The man guarding me stopped cleaning his knives and turned to the man coming for me. The person's scent felt familiar. Like I had smelt it recently today. There was an hostility in his aura. He finally reached my cell and his face became visible because of the burning torch on the wall to my left; directly outside my cell. I gasped. It was the man who had tried to attack me earlier. There was a sickening smile on his face and it made me gulp down the bile that had risen up my throat. My exchange of breath became shaky with fear. "Now now, I have not even done anything yet and you're already oozing with fear," he began. I got to my feet and stared warily at him. I wondered if he was the one sent to end my life, to finish me off. "Where are my manners? I'm Daniel Craig but everybody calls me Dan. You are. . . Nora right? The daughter of the monster," he continued in a slow tone. I could catch the excitement in his voice. His green eyes glinted with every word. I could tell that he was going to enjoy everything that he would do to me tonight. "I'm here to interrogate you. If you answer my questions truthfully then I'll put in a good word for you from my Alpha and he might just give you a painless death," he announced and stressed the way he said death. My heart skipped a beat at the realization. What have I gotten myself into? I should have listened to my father when he told me to come back. I should have just sat there and enjoyed my food but I had to be stubborn. Now it was too late. I had put myself into trouble and the only person who could help me was the Moon goddess herself. Dan tucked his hand into his pants' pocket. He approached my cell and smiled at me. "Believe me when I say that this night is going to be a very long one. . ."
