CHAPTER 10 - TOO CLOSE FOR COMFORT

1033 Words
DAMIAN’S POV I stared into her big dark eyes. We were still standing in her cell after I had freed her. Every other person had walked out after Dan. The other cells were empty on this floor. Nora and I were alone. As I looked into her eyes and I noticed that there was this mystery hidden in them that I had still not uncovered. It was the first thing that caught my attention when I first met her eighteen years ago and today, her eyes had gotten me trapped again. I wanted to uncover that mystery. Fur wanted to know what laid beneath but I did not know how to go about it. The more I stared, the more I noticed the temperature in the room changing. It was almost as if a fire had started burning between us. Soon enough, the room became too hot for me to bear. I wanted to look away but I could not. She had me trapped without even touching me. When on the contrary, I had been the one to touch her first but now; I was slowly losing my mind. I was suddenly driven by the urge to touch her face. I tried to fight the urge; I already began to lift my hand when I stopped myself. I finally broke away from her gaze and I found myself breathing heavily. The heat in the room started to cool off and I composed myself. I cleared my throat and turned to face her again. I could not let her see how her existence at this very moment was affecting me. I threw a glance down at her bloody finger. "Does it still hurt?" I asked. She blinked nervously and looked away. "Just a little," she answered. "We need to cover it up or it will get an infection," I announced. I gestured at the chair. She looked at me and saw what I was pointing at. "Sit," I ordered. She gave me a confused look but she obeyed and sat on it. I stepped out of the cell and found the locker attached to the wall outside her cell. There was a first aid box inside as I had once instructed years ago. I took out the box and brought it to Nora. "Give me your hand," I instructed. She did as she was told. I studied the finger and hoped no severe damage had been done. Luckily, there was a bottle of water inside the box. I rinsed out the injury. Nora hissed in pain and I wanted to soothe it again but I restrained myself. I found a disinfectant and sprayed it on the injury. She squeezed her eyes shut. I found a bandage to dress the wound and that was when I saw how badly she was hurt. The entire nail had been ripped off her index finger, along with some skin. It was going to take a while to heal but she would be fine. This was the advantage of being a wolf. I finished dressing the wound and released her hand. "This should do. Try not to provoke it," I instructed her. She nodded her head in response and continued to look up at me with her big black eyes. Before it could get to me again, I looked away. I exhaled sharply and tried to understand why Dan chose to disobey me. I had given him a direct order and he knew everything about the plans I was making. Yet he decided to break them and do as he wished. I could not forgive him for what he had done. This was a direct disrespect towards me. I had to punish him. The worst part of this was the fact that he had chosen to use Nora of all people as his victim. She could be the daughter of a monster but she was still human. She could be a spy but she still had rights and we were not animals. We respected every wolf's rights. I needed to find him and scold him for his actions. I turned to face Nora again. She was still staring at me with pleading eyes as if to say that I should take her with me. I pretended to not understand the message she was passing across. "I'll see you soon," I breathed and turned my back to her. She remained silent and I could feel her eyes bore into my back as I walked away. As I left her, my anger from before started to come back to me as I remembered the ugly injury on Nora's index finger. He had done exactly what I did not want. I felt so angry and I knew that confronting Dan was the right thing to do. Images of Nora's injury kept flashing before my eyes and it only made my rage worse. The last time I felt this angry was when I lost my parents. I stepped out of the building and saw the men who had been helping Dan earlier. They bowed immediately after they saw me. I ignored their bows and approached them instead. "Where is Dan?" I demanded curtly. "I saw him head towards the woods," a man with rotten teeth answered. I corked my brows at him. "The one within the walls or the one beyond?" I asked for clarity. "The woods inside our walls," the man responded while the rest nodded their heads in agreement. I was about to leave when I suddenly remembered to warn them. "Before I forget, I don't want any of you near the woman in the cell again. Do not touch her. Do not even lay a finger upon her body," I ordered and had eye contact which each of them, one after the other. "Or only the Moon goddess knows what will become of you," I threatened. I heard them gulp and I knew that I had successfully passed the message across to them. The next on my list was Dan. I was going to find him wherever he was hiding and make him apologize for what he had done. I balled my hands into fists and began hunting Dan down.
