DAMIAN’S POV
I caught his scent the moment I entered the woods.
I had thought that my job would have been harder but it turned out very simple. Dan had left traces of himself everywhere. He was not trying to hide from me or anyone else at least. He had probably come here to vent out his anger since I had stopped him from doing as he wished.
The forest was dark and the starless sky had nothing to offer in terms of lighting up the way. But I did not need light to see. My wolf vision was in perfect condition and I could see as clearly as in daylight. I was sure that my blue eyes were now glowing to help me see better.
So I made my way through the woods and tried not to be noisy. I did not want to alert him about my presence. I could not risk him running off. Then again, running was not Dan's style. He would rather stay and face his fears.
I noticed that I was beginning to get closer since his scent had become stronger. It was only a matter of time before the confrontation happened. I did not know what I would do to him but I knew I wanted to reprimand Dan peacefully. I hoped that Dan would get the message and back off.
I should have not just asked him to question her in the first place. What was I thinking? That he would demand all those questions without hurting her? Yet that did not still justify what he had done. This was close to dehumanization. He had treated her without any feelings. He had disrespected her.
I soon reached a clearing and saw him standing before a tree landing blows on it like it was his enemy. He kept going nonstop and if that had been a man, then the man would have been rendered immobile within minutes.
"DAN!" I roared.
He stopped his assault on the tree immediately and turned to face me. The moment my brain identified him completely, the anger I had been feeling before intensified and I felt myself losing control. My body started moving forward as if it had a mind of its own.
I found myself racing towards him. Dan did not move. He did not try to run. He just watched me come for him. As that was typical of Dan.
The moment I reached it, I landed a very hard blow on his face and he went down on his knees immediately. I did not give him time to recover. I picked him back up and slammed him against the tree he had been hitting.
Dan stared back at me with wide eyes at my sudden outburst. Blood already started trickling down the corner of his lips but he did not speak. He continued to stare at me in shock.
I gritted my teeth hard as I fought for control. "How dare you?" I began slowly but the authority and power in my voice were enough to make a regular wolf submit to me immediately.
Dan did not say a word. He continued to glare at me as if I had become a different person.
"I asked you a question! What did I tell you about torturing her?" I demanded again.
I felt my body begin to vibrate with anger. My lips trembled the most as I tried to speak. The air tasted thick and I saw my knuckles turning white.
Dan did not back down. He was determined to show me that he was strong enough too.
"I was only doing what I felt was right!" He shot back.
My rage burned fiercer within me as I glared at him. "What you thought was right is wrong! How dare you hurt another person?"
I tightened my hand on his clothes so that he would not be able to easily escape.
"I did my duty for the pack. I was going to make her speak by all means possible. If you still feel that my duty was inappropriate, then so be it! Kill me off instead because I am not sorry about what I did and I will not hesitate to do it again!" Dan exclaimed.
"Kill him!" I heard Fur suggest.
I fought to keep Fur at bay. I did not want to unleash the wolf within me. But it was fighting to be released into the world.
"Kill him now!" Fur ordered.
"I'm not a Killer, Fur," I answered him internally with much difficulties.
My words got to Fur. The last thing I wanted was to become an Alpha who was a murderer. I wanted to be known as a different Alpha. The type of Alpha my father would have been had he still been alive. I could not even imagine of killing Dan.
Meanwhile, I continued to glare at Dan with hostility in my eyes.
"What are you waiting for? Kill me then! Has it not come to this? You attack me for the first time because of a woman! Kill me right now because I cannot stand any of this anymore!" Dan exploded at me.
His words hit me hard and I immediately released him. He fell to the floor. I felt my breath become even heavier as I staggered away from him.
"What am I doing? What has gotten into me?" I questioned myself.
This was the first time I had acted in anger. I always thought about the consequences of my actions before doing anything. Fur always gave me the best ideas yet today; for the first time in my life—
I acted recklessly.
Fur gave me a bad idea.
I pressed my head with my hands. What was I doing?
I heard Dan cough beside me. "Thank you for almost killing me," he accused and stormed away.
"What is happening to us Fur?" I asked out loud. There was no response from him.
I was sure even Fur was probably asking himself why he had ordered me to kill.
