CHAPTER 13 - HAUNTED

1000 Words
DAMIAN’S POV I gasped awake and sat up immediately. My body was wet with my sweat. My heart pounded violently against my ribcage. The fingers on my left hand started trembling. Images were replaying in my head. I felt as if it was happening all over again. The tremors moved from my fingers all the way to my elbow. I placed my other hand on it in an attempt to stop it but it only worsened. My veins became very visible and my hand burned with pain. The pain started spreading to the rest of my arm and went up my shoulder. I needed my pills. But I could not move. It was almost as if I was still stuck in the nightmare I had been having while asleep yet I was wide awake. I groaned in pain as sounds from that night filled up my ears. I could hear it happening but I could not see it. I heard my mother cough and choke on her blood and the pain in my hand intensified. I wished I could save her but I could not. "Move your body, Damian!" Fur instructed as he noticed it was getting out of hand. The pain only went up again and I growled out. It was getting hard to bare. It was not ending and there was no one nearby to help me. "No one will come to your rescue. You have to save yourself," Fur reminded me. Fur was right. I had to save myself. I painfully turned my neck to the bedside table. I spotted the little container that had the pills. All I had to do was reach it and swallow two of them. It felt like the hardest task in the world. I fell back on the bed so that the distance between the table and I was reduced. With my working hand, I tried to reach it. The pain went up again. I heard Derrick's laughter as it echoed in my head. He was mocking me. Eventually, I reached it and fought to get it open. It spilled on the bed and I only took the two pills that I needed. I swallowed it and remained still on the bed. I had resumed sweating again. My hand burned but the voices from that night started disappearing from my head. My heart stopped pounding so hard and my breathing soon became calm. Minutes passed and I continued to remain in bed, waiting for the effects to wear off completely. "I will find you, Derrick; wherever you go. Even if I have to follow you to the ends of the world then I will do that. I will make you pay for what you did to me," I vowed to myself. He made me suffer so much and I'll make him taste his own medicine. "We'll make him pay together," Fur joined in. Slowly I lifted myself out of bed and got ready for my morning tasks. I finished and walked out of the room. I was heading for my office, to finish up all the pending paperwork. I had already made it to the west wing when I ran into Dan. We both stopped in our tracks and glared at each other. I decided to be the better person and break the ice. "Good morning Dan," I began. He bowed in response and made to walk away. "You won't grace me with your voice?" I asked. He stopped and folded his arms. "Good morning, Alpha," he answered in a very formal way. I chuckled. "You're angry?" I wondered why I was trying to end his anger. He was at fault and he did not see his wrong in the matter. Dan scoffed and tilted his head at me. "You've never hit me before. Only when we're sparring but last night, you hit me. A woman you don't know is making you fight with your true family. You think I'll be happy about that?" he demanded. He was right. I had never hit him before and I did because of Nora. Was Nora already becoming a bad influence on me? Was it right to still have her around? "We both made mistakes. Let's forget them and move on. Fighting won't help us with our cause," I reminded him. "I'm not fighting with you. I'm only angry with you," Dan corrected while looking ahead. He refused to look at me. I sighed. "Eventually, your anger will subside," I concluded and made to walk away when a lady stopped before us. She wore a black and white dress. The uniform of the Council House. I furrowed my brows at her and even Dan turned to face her. "My Lords," she began with a bow. Her dark hair was tied behind her head in a low ponytail. I noticed the bow and arrow she carried on her back. We nodded our heads and waited for her to speak. "The Council House sent me," she began in a small voice. "I'm Lydia," she added. She revealed a letter that was tucked into the long big sleeves of her dress. She handed it to me with another bow. Then she repeated the same action with Dan. I saw the red seal on the letter. I broke it and read it. I had been summoned before the Council tonight. I looked up at her and she nodded. "The Council has requested your presence. Will you appeal to it?" She demanded. As the Alpha, I had the right to turn them down but if the matter was serious and they requested again a third time, then I would have to heed their call. "I will come," I answered. Lydia turned to Dan and anticipated his response. "I will be there," Dan answered. "I shall take your response back to the Council. Thank you for having me," she concluded. She bowed and walked away from us. I sighed. What was this summoning about? Why did it come up now?
