Under the covering of the night, the house was as silent as it could be. So silent you could hear the crickets creaking around the house and sound of a pin if it were to drop. The silence alone wasn't what engulfed the house, tension and awkwardness did also. The tension was so strong you could practically taste it. Everyone felt a sense of awkwardness but had no reason why they were feeling such emotion. It made them feel as though they had something to hide.
Passing the food around and digging through dinner, no one had said a word since they started. Eye contacts was all there was. The smiling eye contact Kreed was trying to have with his Mate, Raven, and the tensed eye contact she was having with Kieran occasionally. Tessa was stealing glances at all of them, trying to figure out their situation. All she knew was that they had finally resolved their problem, with Raven rejecting Kieran and choosing Kreed and becoming his mate. But to her right there, the scene was saying something different.
Not wanting to start off strong, she decided to start the conversation lightly and end the defeaning silence, reducing the tension they all obviously felt. "So, Raven, how are you adapting to having your wolf now?" She smiled at her warmly.
Raven swallowed the food in her mouth, shifting her attention to Tessa. "It's been all kinds of experience. A rollercoaster of emotions and feelings. Overall, it's more than exciting. It's like having someone else at the backseat of your mind that you could talk to and confide in, not only actual conversations but emotions too" Raven explained as best as she could.
"Yeah, it really is an amazing feeling getting your wolf. Like having a fated bestfriend who always has your back and turns up for you emotionally and physically" Tessa added.
"Yeah"
Seeing as both boys were still quiet, she decided to bring up a conversation that would definitely force them to say something. "So how's school with you all? I mean it has to be an adjustment after resolving your situation" Tessa asked, acting nonchalant.
"Well not really, everything is great" Kreed stated
"Yeah...of course...back to old times" Kieran scoffed, avoiding eye contacts with everyone.
"Yeah...great" Raven nodded, forcing a smile. Being seated next to Kreed wasn't helping her situation.
"That's goodnews! I'm glad it didn't affect your friendships or anything" She pointed out "What about you both? Becoming mates is a huge step. How are you adjusting?"
"We are easing into it. I mean it doesn't really seem all that different from the relationship we had before, just that now we have a deeper connection with each other" Kreed replied, taking Raven's hand in his under the table.
"Hmmhmm" Raven nodded again, feeling the warmth of his palm.
"I'm sure it's milky clouds and rainbows" Kieran blurted out before he could stop himself. It came out more like a taunt than a sarcastic comment, causing Kreed to give him a puzzled and questioning look.
"Don't worry honey, you're gonna find your mate soon" Tessa flashed him a smile.
"I found her already, she rejected me. I'm not sure you're given a second mate as a replacement if the first rejects you. So I'm gonna be a lonely single wolf for the rest of my life.... Oh my God, I'm gonna end up like the crazy lonely elder, aren't I?" Kieran quipped. It quickly became a worried look, feeling a sense of realization in his jokes.
"Stop being dramatic. Of course you're gonna find someone bro" Kreed said to him, still holding Raven's hand under the table.
Noticing their hands under the table, Kieran felt a twinge in his heart, wishing that was him. "Easy for you to say, you found yours already" He clapped back.
"Don't worry honey, even if you don't find your fated mate, I'm sure you're gonna find someone you're gonna fall in love with and who will also love you with all of their heart and she'll end up being your own personally created mate. Trust me, love can be just as strong as a mate bond" Tessa advised with a smile.
Kieran was staring at her the whole time she was making her speech. Raven and Kreed's eyes were on him also. He kept silent a second after his mom was done talking. "Bunch of crap" He commented.
"Hey! Language....and it isn't crap, it's fact. Your father wasn't my fated mate. What we had before he claimed me was love. I loved him enough to go to any lengths for him before he made me his mate. The love was everything. Only thing different like your brother said was the mate bond brings a deeper connection and bond"
"That's exactly what I'm saying. There's a deeper connection love can't bring. I won't have that, would I?" He questioned, looking around at all of them.
"i***t" Kreed sighed, shaking his head. "You're a Direwolf dumb dumb, of course you will have that. Anyone you have s*x with becomes your mate, remember?"
Kieran thought about it and the realization hit him. He had been having s*x with Raven all the while forgetting that existed. He swiftly looked over at Raven and saw a look of realization and disbelief in her face also, telling him she had forgotten as well. "s**t" He cursed
"Language! How many times do I have to tell you Kieran? If we dropped a cent for everytime you break the rule I'd probably be able to buy the whole town by now" Tessa teased
"Are you okay?" Kreed whispered to Raven, noticing how uncomfortable she had suddenly become. He could hear her heartbeat increase and feel her tensed emotion.
"Mhmm...Yeah...yeah" She shook her head, trying to get herself back before she blew up their secret.
Tessa who had been watching and analyzing them all throughout the course of the conversations had figured out what was going on. She knew immediately there was something still going on between Raven and Kieran, and Kreed was unaware. She knew that was going to result to a problem in the future but she didn't want to be the reason it comes out now. She decided to keep it to herself and let it unfold on its own while trying to make sure there won't be a lasting damage left behind.
"Isn't it time we move out the house and get our own place?" Kieran asked out of nowhere.
"Nice try, nope, not until you've both graduated"
"But Kreed is mated now, shouldn't they be living together?" He pressed on.
"Like I said, nice try, not until you've both graduated"
"Sorry bro, you're stuck with me as your neighbor" He quipped at Kreed.
"How unfortunate" Kreed clapped back.
"Asshat" Kieran cursed at him
"Dumb dumb" Kreed returned.
"Language!" Tessa cried out.

Standing around in a wide circle, all the strong and able fighting wolves Kreed selected amongst the students in the school were all gathered in the main hall of the school. He had expected less than the numbers they ended up with. They ended up with more than half the school. That gave them hope of defending the school, but that also meant training. They needed to train physically and mentally, learning to coordinate their attacks and fight as one.
Coming out and standing at the middle of the circle, Kreed began addressing them. "Alright. We all know why we are here and why we are selected. But it's time to test our abilities against each other and get to know ourselves, our strengths and weaknesses" He stated and looked around, they were all staring at him, listening quietly. He continued. "I'll go first. Come on Ace" He called out his bestfriend.
Ace stepped out into the circle, running his hand through his short and dark hair. He stood at the same height as Kreed and was as muscular too. He was more than okay physically. His looks were second only to the twins in the school. "Alright come at me" Kreed instructed
Ace complied to his instruction and attacked. Kreed dodge his attack and countered, landing a punch on Ace's rib. Ace shook it off and went in again, this time countering Kreed's attacks as well. They kept on exchanging kicks and blows, acrobatically flying through the air, dodging each other's attacks. This went on for minutes until Kreed found an opening and utilized it, getting Ace to his knees with his claws right at his throat.
Everyone clapped at the display of strength that just happened before them. Kreed helped Ace up to his feet. "Thanks" Ace said, walking back to stand amongst the crowd.
"Alright, now Diamond and Killian" Kreed called out.
Seeing his bestfriend get called out, Kieran tapped him, hyping him up and pushing him into the ring. "Get her tiger!" He called loudly. He then gave a quiet sympathetic laugh. "Yeah he's screwed" He said to himself, scratching his head.
The fight between Diamond and Killian lasted for about two minutes. She rocked him hard as much as he tried putting up a fight. He felt like he held his own against the third strongest student in the school. Still, he found himself on his back on the floor with Diamond's shoe right above his neck and her eyes staring down at him. "You're one mean girl" He said, giving up.
"Sorry bro. Diamond is just an unfair pair to you" Kieran shrugged at him as Killian returned to stand beside him.
"Yeah yeah whatever. Direwolves assholes" He taunted
"Alright, next, Kieran and Raven"
Kieran glanced confusedly at his brother, thinking he heard wrong. He looked over at Raven and saw her slowly making her way to the centre. He then made his way over also, all the while wondering why his brother decided to pair them, unknowingly putting him in one awkward position after another. "Go girl! Go Kieran!" Diamond called out from where she stood.
Kieran tried shaking off the shock. He came face to face with Raven and the tension immediately appeared. "I'm not gonna go easy on you just because you're a baby wolf" He said to her.
"I expect nothing less" She replied with a smile.
She immediately attacked, throwing a left and right jab at him. He stepped back dodging them easily. She switched to kicks, throwing kicks at him, the red tracksuits they all had on making it easier to move. She did a flip, accompanying it with a ready kick that Kieran ended up blocking with his arm. He immediately took that opening and grabbed her leg, holding her in place. He swiftly threw a kick at her open side but his leg stopped immediately just few inches from hitting her.
Everyone was puzzled why he stopped his kick. Kieran who was as puzzled as everyone else wondered why his leg suddenly stopped just before hitting her. Raven took advantage of his distracted state and leapt off the floor with her free leg and land a kick on his face, sending him to one knee. He let go off her other leg and held his face instead. Raven immediately rushed him again with punches.
Kieran swiftly reacted and stood up to his feet, blocking them with his arms. She kept on sending them and he kept on blocking. Tired of being in the defensive, he leaned back dodging both her hands. From being under her arms by leaning back, he caught both her arms, held them tightly, got back to standing straight and pulled her to him, setting a knee that was going directly to her chin but just as before she stopped just mere inches from his knee. This drew another surprise from the crowd and Kieran himself.
Raven wasn't spared of the confusion. She wondered why he was holding back just after he said he wasn't going to hold back. She pushed the thought away immediately and took the opportunity he had created for her. She wriggled both her arms free and grabbed his leg that was hanging, dropped down and cleared the other off the floor, landing Kieran on his back. She tactically pinned him immediately and wrapped her fingers around his neck. Her face wasn't that far from his.
Kieran was still in his shocked state, staring directly into her eyes. Raven who was smiling for pinning him, began losing her smile as her eyes lingered on his. She felt a tension building up quickly between them. Luckily for them she snapped herself back to reality and quickly got off him, standing up. The students were all confused at what happened, standing in disbelief and wondering how Raven was able to take down Kieran.
Kreed got to the centre where Kieran was still lying, staring at the roof with a serious expression. He offered his hand and pulled Kieran to his feet. "What just happened?" He asked with furrowed brows.
"I got distracted" He replied bluntly and walked past him into the crowd.
Kreed stared at his retreating back as he left not just the ring but the gathering also. He sighed quietly and turned his attention back to the students. "Alright, next, Liam and Kev"

In the shadows of the crescent moon, hidden in the cloak of the night was Rayne who was standing on top the tallest building in the town, the clocktower. He stood at the very top of the pointed roof, crouched down and staring down at everyone moving about with his glowing red eyes.
Staring at every passerby wasn't his mission, his mission was finding one person, the person whom his eyes had locked on to. No one noticing his presence at the top of the cloak tower with his sword hanging on his back, he kept on staring at his little sister, Raven as she was walking down a path with someone that seemed to be close with her.
Raven who was walking beside Diamond, felt like someone was watching her. She felt and sensed a familiar presence. She looked around briskly but saw no one. She turned to face her direction when she realized she saw something or someone at the top of the clocktower. She swiftly looked over there but whatever it was was gone, disappeared. "Hey! Are you alright?" Diamond asked, noticing her mood.
"Yeah...just thought I saw something" She replied before focusing her attention back to her friend and the road they were walking down to.
