Guilt and Anger

1772 Words
The moist air was filled with the scent of burning bushes and buildings. The cloud seemed to be getting darker with the red sun setting. The whole place was now a shadow of itself. Where the bubbling pack settlement once stood, was now nothing but mere ashes, fading away with the wind. Seeing how their once beautiful home, pack and town was now merely ash and coal they stood on, the anger inside of Kieran grew. He shifted his gaze back to his rival. "It didn't have to be like this!" He called out, staring at his rival who stood on the other side, some meters from him. "No, it didn't. You made it so. I guess it's the curse we inherited, a fate we can't avoid. If only you acted as a brother and never betrayed me. It doesn't matter now. I'm going to be the one standing and you're going down for your betrayal" Kreed stated with angered eyes. His eyes immediately began glowing red as soon as he ended his sentence. He watched as Kieran's eyes began glowing red also. "Let's end it here!” He added just before dashing toward Kieran. Maryanne gasped awake, panting heavily, her eyes pure white, her eyeballs disappearing. She swiftly looked around and realized she was back to reality. She heaved a deep sigh, controlling her breath. Her eyes came back to normal and she wiped off the bead of sweat on her forehead. No one had to tell her she just had a premonition. She swiftly got up, moving round the cabin and getting all she needed before she heads over to the Alpha. It was full moon tonight and the Obedon duel was going to take place in an hour time. Getting that premonition, she knew that nothing good was going to come out from the twins fighting each other. She needed to warn the Alpha and she needed to warn their mother. She hurried out of the cabin and looked up at the full moon in the night sky. Staring at it, she felt fear. Something terrible was about to happen and it’s about to happen fast. *** Hearing quiet sobs coming from one of the empty rooms above the underground hall where the wolves were gathering, Raven slowly made her way over. As she got closer she caught Tessa’s scent. She stopped by the door and listened in. Hearing Tessa cry made her heart break and she began feeling guilty about the whole situation. She wiped the tears off her own eyes and slowly pushed the door open, poking her head into the slightly dim and empty room. The room was completely empty and cleared out, safe for the wooden chair Tessa was sitting on. It had been abandoned for some years. The only functioning room in that building was the underground hall where the wolves held general meetings and also came to settle scores in the Obedon duel using the arena at the middle of the hall. Glancing at the door and seeing Raven walking in, Tessa quickly wiped the tears off her eyes, sniffling and trying to act fine. But her act was wasted on Raven who had already seen everything. Raven approached slowly with a sympathetic and pleasing look. “Hey Miss T. I’m so sorry…” “It’s not your fault Raven” Tessa said to her, trying to force a smile but failing miserably. “No it is…it is my fault. If I had rejected him when I was supposed to, then none of this would have happened. So it is my fault. It’s my fault that we are at risk of losing one of them tonight” She explained “I can’t lose any of them Raven” Tessa broke down, tears rolling down her eyes. “Have you talked With Kreed?” “I have tried. He won’t even exchange a word with him. I don’t think anyone can convince him not to go through with it” “I can’t watch the fight. I won’t watch my sons fight each other while knowing anyone that loses would get exiled from the pack. I can’t watch them. I’ll stay here the whole time” Tessa stated. “I’m sorry” Raven wiped her eyes. *** Following the Alpha closely behind, Diamond had been trying so hard to convince her father to call it off but he wasn’t bulging, saying it was a fixed law. If anyone does a blood challenge then they can’t take it back. “If we call off the duel now after it’s been challenged then everyone who had ever done a blood duel will rise up against us and demand the previous duel should be made null and void. It wouldn’t seem fair anymore. We can’t make an exception just because they are your friends and are Tessa’s sons” “But dad this duel is already decided. Kreed is stronger than Kieran. So we know Kreed would win in the end. We can’t exile Kieran. I can’t watch him being sent out of the pack” Diamond argued while being at the brink of tears. With every passing minute, their reality was becoming inevitable. “Kieran is also a formidable fighter. He can hold his own against Kreed. I don’t think we can stop this honey. I think the premonition is unavoidable” He stated just before he pushed the double door to the hall open. He looked around the hall and it was filled up already. “I guess everyone is invested” “This is not good” Diamond muttered to herself, her heart beating with fear. *** “Do you want to go through with this?” Ace asked, his eyes fixed on Kreed who was staring out the window. He had been silent since they got to the room, refusing to see anyone who had come to try and talk him out of it, including his Mother and Mate. “You know I would support whatever decision you make but you have to understand, if you do this then there’s no going back. Kieran will be sent out of the pack” Kreed turned around to face him and Ace could see the rage clearly in his eyes. “He betrayed me Ace. He stabbed me in the back. He’s my twin who is supposed to have my back but instead he’s the one who stabbed me. He has been having an affair with my mate for weeks now all the while lying to my face and acting like a brother. Tell me, what kind of a brother does that? Tell me, am I wrong for reacting this way? Am I wrong for doing this? My twin was trying to steal my mate and my mate allowed him. Who wouldn’t react the way I did? So yeah Ace, this is the only way I know we can settle this without me killing him. One of us has to leave for there to be peace” Kreed vented his anger. The door creaked open and Niklaus poked his head. “It’s time boys” He announced. “There’s no going back now” Kreed said and walked past Ace. “No there isn’t” Ace muttered before following behind. *** Kieran ran his fingers through his hair, his bruised face already healed. He stared out the window, gazing at the full moon. He heard footsteps behind him and seconds later Killian appeared behind him, joining in staring at the full moon. “What are you thinking about?” Killian asked, feeling Kieran’s emotions. Kieran sighed and shook his head slowly. “That I screwed up and there’s no fixing it” “There has to be a way to fix this without either of you getting exiled” “I don’t think there is. He made a blood challenge and there’s no going back” He replied “Kreed is strong and with how angry he is, he isn’t going to hold back when he fights you. Which means you don’t have to hold back either. I know it will only take some miracle for you to defeat him but you have to. I can’t lose my best friend. You’re the only family I have right now. If you get exiled then I don’t know how my life here will be without you” Killian explained with a serious look. “I’ll try my best” Kieran smiled. “You better and if you lose, then I’m coming with you” “Nah…If I lose, then it’s my cross to bear. Everyone here will need you for when the enemies attack so you can protect them. My mom, Diamond, the pack. everyone” “I’m the weakest wolf in the group….well second to weakest” “Yeah you are. At least you’ll be used as a diversion to save the others” Kieran teased. “i***t” Killian shot at him and they both began laughing just before the door creaked open. “It’s time” Niklaus announced. “You better don’t lose” Killian’s expression changed from a smiling one to a serious and scared one. “I’ll try my best” Kieran extended a handshake to him. Killian stared at him with furrowed brows before accepting the handshake. “Thanks bro” He added, broke the handshake and started for the exit. *** Scar walked past the group while adjusting his mask. His glowing red eyes glowing brighter under the full moon. After walking a few more steps forward toward the exit of the cave, he stopped and turned to face the others. “It will just be us four tonight. Rayne is out on an important mission and while he is gone, we will go take care of the last retrieval” He stated “You don’t have to come with us you know…we could handle it” Blue said with a confident smile. “He isn’t like the others. He’s the strongest left and we can’t take any chances. There’s no room for failure. We can’t bear to waste any more time” “Well then, let’s get it over with” Darrel said with a stern voice. “Yes. You know what to do. It’s full moon tonight and we are going to use it to our advantage. Now, let’s go…” He paused and turned to face the exit while putting on his hood. “Let’s go get the last member of the Black Lotus” He added and continued on his way with the others following behind.
