At about eleven o’clock that night there was a loud knocking and when she went to open the door, she saw Adi standing on the doorstep. “Adi, what is it? Come in. What’s happened?”
“Akira just called. He said Bu died.” His face was swollen with grief and haunting growling sobs shook his body from the belly up. At first Lisa was confused, but then it sunk in that “Bu” was what they all called Marj. It took a moment to register the shocking news before she moved to wrap her
arms around him. She led him to her room where they sat side by side on the bed and then, try as she might, she found that her imagination could not stretch to the possibility that Marj was dead.
She located a box of tissues and put it next to Adi on the bed, “You stay here. I’ll go and make us a cup of tea.”
