Chapter 27
Pari brought an assortment of fresh bagels and spreads, along with fruit smoothies, to the Apapane Ring neighborhood park, which was across a cobblestone lane from Campbell Vaughn's bungalow. Campbell joined her at a park bench shaded under a royal poinciana tree in full bloom.
"Why are you looking especially chipper this morning, Campbell?"
A wider grin broke out on his face. "Because I can't wait to share with you what happened yesterday."
Pari watched him prepare two bagels and drink a third of his smoothie. She was not anxious to rush him. She let him enjoy the build-up to his story without prodding.
"Let's start with Manami," Campbell said. "These bagels are delicious, by the way. Thank you for breakfast."
