Chapter 28
Azucara stepped off the elevator into Sodius’s office. The lights were turned off, and the floor and walls were covered in a fresh layer of salt.
Sodius hovered in front of the window, looking out at the burning city.
Another elevator door opened, and Monte Cristo stepped out. He was holding two Cubes in a drawstring bag.
Monte Cristo nodded to her. She nodded back.
Together, they approached Sodius’s desk.
“You two have done an admirable job,” Sodius said, not turning around. “You represented me like the noble ambassadors I knew you would be.”
Monte Cristo tossed the drawstring bag onto the desk. Azucara placed the bag with Queen Lychee’s crown next to it.
“The dairy Cube was easy,” Monte Cristo said. “Didn't take much time at all.”
