“What did you just say?!” Jake and Max both said at the same time.

“Mind your own business!” Hannah yelled at them, taking my hand and pulling me to the back of the bus to sit with her in private. 

Jake stood there with his mouth hanging open, white shock on his face. “Did she...did she just say he was her mate?!” He asked Max.

“I...I think...so...where is she going with my mate?! 2 hour bus ride and she thinks I’m sitting with you?!” 

“Ghee, thanks Max!” Jake replied, sadness filling him.

Max patted his back, “Awe man, Jake, look. Two hour bus ride, we’ll get to the bottom of this. But we knew that this would happen, I mean we all thought you’d be the one to find a mate, but i mean you could still find her this week. Nikki getting a second chance mate, that’s wild. But we’ll figure it out.” 

“Yeah.” Jake replied, walking up the steps to board the bus. 

The two boys walked to the back of the bus, taking the seats in front of Nikki and Hannah, as Hannah gave them a death stare.

“I told you to give us SPACE!” Hannah whisper yelled towards Max.

He stood there in the row with his hands up. “I just wanted to sit near my mate.” He said with a pout on his face. 

Hannah melted under Max’s gaze. 

“It’s okay Hannah. They should know too.” I looked up towards Jake, tears in my eyes.

The last two rows of the bus were set up so that we could face each other, with a table in between, like a booth. It helped when the leaders needed to plan ahead of their arrival. Which is exactly what they were doing.

“Ok Nikki, tell us what happened.” Max said as he and Jake slide into the seats across from me and Hannah.

“Well, I mean you were there…”

“You know what I mean, why do you think he’s your mate?”

“I don’t think, I know.” I replied clasping my hands together on top of the table. I felt bad for having to talk about this in front of Jake. 

Almost as if he could read her thoughts, Jake reached over and placed his hand on top of hers. “It’s okay Nikki, we knew this was a possibility...of me finding a mate but it’s kind of amazing that you found a second chance mate.” He gave me a small smile.

I should have known that Jake would support and be there for me no matter what. We were best friends before turning into lovers. Now, we’ll just have to go have to go back to friends, until I figure out what to do with Connor.

“I didn’t think anything of him.” i started

“Other than he was a hott piece of ass.” Hannah smirked. 

I blushed. “True.”

Max cleared his throat, “excuse me.” He looked at his mate.

“Oh don’t look at me like that, you know you’re the only wolf for me….but you can’t deny a great ass when you see one.” She winked back towards me, causing me to laugh.

“Nikki, go on…” Max demanded.

“The second our hands touched i felt it. The electricity, the pull...all of it. I never, I never thought I’d ever feel that again…” A tear slide down my face. “At least not as intense as it is, I thought i’d only ever feel the dull of it whenever I decided to pick a chosen mate…” I said looking back up to Jake, as more tears slide down my face.

“Nikki…” Hannah said, wrapping her arms around me, Jake never letting go of my hands. “I know this isn’t something any of us planned for. Hell, I’m still some what new to learning about your first mate, but from what I know of you and Carson, I for one am overly happy that you were strong back then to break it off. You deserve nothing but the best, to have the full support of your mate while ruling over a pack. And while Jake…” She paused and looked towards him, “I know the two of you were hoping to make it work.”

“Wait,” Max interrupted, “you knew about them?” 

“Only a blind person didn’t. While they didn’t show affection through touch for each other in public their eyes sure did.” 

I blushed, “well there goes keeping that a secret.”

Jake laughed, “well, I mean look at me, how could she keep her eyes off of me once she saw ALL of me.” he smirked at me. 

“Dude, shut up.” Max replied.

“As I was SAYING” Hannah seethed. “While you two were hoping it would work out, Moon Goddess has other plans. Nikki, get to know Connor. See what he’s like an an Alpha. You are the strongest person I know, so i know the mate pull is hard. But you somehow fought fate once before and didn’t succumb to it. Take this week and see how you feel about him. Jake, your mate is out there. You’ll find her. I have no doubt!” Hannah smiled, just as her stomach grumbled making all of us laugh. “And that, my friends, means the baby is ready for a snack!” 

“We just ate!” Max said shaking his head.

I gave Max a look of don’t mess with mama.

“Max, where is the bag of snacks?” Hannah said, ignoring his comment. 

“I don’t know.” 

Jake and i shrunk back in our seats. I might be Alpha, but I will never get in the way of a pregnant she-wolf and her food. So there was no way I would be saving my brother.

“What do you mean you don’t know?!? I gave you the bag before I left our room!” 

“Oh, I thought those just needed to be put away.”

“You didn’t bring them?” Hannah was turning red, her teeth clenched. I think if she could shift, without hurting the baby or the interior of the bus she would.

“Hannah, breath hun.” I said to her, and standing up to walk towards the front of the bus. 

Standing in front of the bus I stood there facing my pack-members. 

I grabbed the walkie talkie and pushed the button. “Can everyone hear me?” 

Everyone in the bus nodded their heads and two other voices spoke up over the speakers, indicated that the two other buses  of my pack behind could also hear me.  

“It seems that our Beta forgot to bring his pregnant mate snacks.” Gasps, chuckles, words of smack talk soon followed. I laughed and looked towards Max. Who had a seething Hannah breathing down his throat. 

“We’re going to pull over in about 10 minutes. Perfect spot to stretch our legs and find snacks for our soon to be mama’s and any pups. Also, please make sure you all use the restrooms. Once we arrive at Black Moon, I’m not sure how quick it will be till we’re provided with our sleeping arrangements.”

“Yes Alpha” rang out to me, as i put the walkie talkie back down and walked back to my seat.

“Problem solved.”

“Thank you Alpha!” Hannah smiled at me, looking happy again before she turned hateful eyes back to Max.

“Thanks.” He said, giving me a tight smile. I just laughed in return.

The second all three buses pulled into the rest stop I noticed that the Red Moon’s busses were there as well. I looked out the window, seeing Connor standing there with a little girl in his arms and a pregnant she-wolf standing right next to him. Smiling at each other, causing me to feel like my heart was exploding. 

“Nikki.” Hannah said, when she saw what I was looking at. 

“Forget him.” I replied back to her, walking out of the bus with her. 

“Nikki, Red Moon is here too.” Max said to me. 

“Yup. Just focus on getting your mate snacks while I accompany her to the restroom. 

“All members needing to use the restroom, gather over here with me.” I yelled out. I felt Connor’s eyes on me, but I refused to look towards him and what appears to be his family.

Two pups ran over to me, and I bent down and picked them up. “Oh Alpha I’m sorry, I can take them” Their pregnant mother said to me. “Nonsense, i got them” I said to her with a smile. Turning around I walked with a pup on each hip and brought my members to the restrooms. Connor and I made eye contact, I could of sworn I saw lust in his eyes as he watched me carry the pups. 

I put the pups down so they could use the restroom, as i stood outside the restrooms making sure my members made their way back to the buses. I did not want to leave anyone behind. 

Two different pups ran up to me, this time two boys, at the same time Connor stepped towards me, with a little girl in his arms. 

“Say hi to Alpha Nikki, Lilly.” Connor said as he stepped up to me.

I looked at him and the little girl in his arms. Smiling at her, as much as this was hurting I refused to let him know. 

“Hi.” The little girl said. 

“Hi.” I said back to her. 

“Connor!” The woman that I had seen standing with him when we pulled up yelled his name.

“Connor we need to go!” She yelled.

“Go.” I said to him, at the same time I turned away from him and walked back to the bus. Handing over the boys to their mothers I heard Connor yelling my name.

“Nikki, Nikki…” just as two of my warriors stood to block his path to me. Making members of my pack take a stance to protect me if need me.

“It’s Alpha Nikki.” Hannah said as she stepped passed him. 

“Stand down everyone. This is Alpha Connor of the Red Moon pack. They will be joining us at the tournament.” Everyone nodded their heads with a ‘yes alpha’. “Load up.”

“Ni...Alpha Nikki…”

“Yes?” I said to him, but not wanting to give him the time of day.

“Are...are you okay?” He asked me, trying to take a step closer to me. But I took a step back, making him stop in his tracks.

“You have a pregnant she-wolf and a pup...what do you need from me? Just make her your chosen mate and it’ll be over with. You should of done that when she had your first pup.” I said to him, as I looked around seeing only Max and Jake waiting for me outside our bus. All other buses were loaded up and ready to hit the road.

“It’s not what you think.” He stated. 

“I’m sure.” I replied. “I’d like to get to the Black Moon territory sooner rather than later, if you don’t mind.” I said annoyed and fed up.

“In a hurry to get to the mate that didn’t want you?” He questioned, his voice also sounding annoyed. 

“f**k off Connor. I’m more worried about the way his mother is going to react to seeing her son for the first time in 2 years than I am about how I’ll feel about seeing him. He may have never wanted me, but he didn’t have a secret family.” 

Connor’s face was that of shock with my words. As i walked past him and got onto the bus.

“WAIT, NIKKI….IT’S NOT WHAT YOU THINK!” he yelled to me as the bus doors closed. 

“Drive.” I said to the pack-member behind the wheel.

“You want to talk about it?” Jake asked as I sat down next to him, Hannah now snuggled up to Max with a snack in hand. 

“Nope.”
