Misunderstanding

Connor’s POV

“What’s wrong Connor?” Jackie asked me as I walked up to their car before heading onto the bus. 

“I think...I think she thinks that you’re my girlfriend and that Lilly is my pup along with the pup inside of you.” I said to her, my mind running a mile a minute.

“Excuse me?” Jackie said, making a disgusted face.

“Believe me, not something I want ANYONE to think…” I replied back to her. 

She closed Lilly’s door and stood next to me, waiting for Steve to come back to the car. “Who thinks this? And why?” 

“Nikki….Alpha Nikki of the Blue Ridge pack.” I replied, “How am I going to fix this?”

“Ok a few things...1 why would she think that? 2. What does it matter what she thinks and 3 what’s there to fix?” Jackie looked at me dumbfounded.

“She’s my mate.” I replied to her in almost a whisper. From Nikki’s reaction when we realized we were mated, I didn’t want anyone to really know till I figured out what she wanted to do. Did she want me? Probably not anymore. “I need to fix this Jackie!” I said to her a little panicked.

“Don’t panic Connor! We’ll fix this. Don’t worry. Why are you whispering about it? You should be ecstatic to have found your mate!” 

“I am, I want nothing more than to scream it on the top of my lungs and to let everyone know. But she, she has a tough past and there are things no one knows. I’m respecting her wishes, for now.” 

“Weird...she doesn’t want you?”

“She didn’t say that, i think she’s more scared. But let’s get back on the road, we only have 1 hour left.”

“I’ll fix it Connor, when I see her again I’ll her know for sure I’m happily mated.” 

“Thank you Jackie.” I said to her, as Steve came back to the car. 

*Everyone loaded up?* I mind-linked Seth.

*Yes, what’s taking you so long?* 

*I’m coming now.*

*FINALLLLLLLYYYYY*

Rolling my eyes I said goodbye to my sister and headed onto the bus. 

“Alpha” the bus driver greeted me. 

“Let’s go.” I replied to him, walking to the back fo the bus.

“What took you so long?” Josh asked me.

“I ran into an issue and I may need your guys help with it. But no one else is to know.” I eyed them, especially Seth, he loved gossip.

“Spill!”  Seth gushed.

“I mean it Seth, not a word to ANYONE!” I said to him.

“I am appalled!” He gasped. “I am your Beta, you can trust me with anything.” 

I eyed him, as much as he was a gossip, he was also a loyal friend. “Ok, i nodded my head.”

“I found my mate.” 

Both of them looked at me with a smirk.

“It’s Alpha Nikki...isn’t it?!” Seth asked.

“How’d you know?” I asked.

“Oh, you know just the growling that kept happening AFTER you shook her hand.” Josh said.

“Well, shit.” I laughed. “So much for keeping it a secret.”

“Well, only we know...so it wont get past us.” Seth said.

“Jackie knows…” I advised, “Nikki saw me holding Lilly and helping with Jackie, and now she thinks Jackie is my girlfriend whom I’ve had or am having pups with.” 

“Well, that’s disgusting.” Seth said while Josh started laughing.

“How is this funny Josh?” 

“Oh it’s not. But it’s going to be funny as f**k watching you try to fix things while trying to not let everyone know you’re mates.”

“I don’t know what I’m going to do.”

“I get why Nikki is standoffish...Alpha Carson sounds like a complete dick.” 

Seth and I nodded to Josh’s comment.

“So we have two objectives. 1 - Win the tournament, we may be mates but right now we’re separate packs and 2 - Win over Nikki’s heart.” 

“Wait, why do WE have win over her heart?” 

“Because you i***t, when they mate she’ll become our Luna.” Seth said to Josh.

She’ll be our Luna. i said to myself

We’ll win her back. Timber said to me.

Did we ever have her to begin with?

More than you know Connor, more than you know. 

The rest of the drive to the Black Moon pack was spent focusing on how to get Nikki to know the truth...Lilly was my niece and Jackie my sister. There was no other woman in my life and as far as i was concerned she was it for me. 

Before i knew it we were pulling up and passed the gates. Looking out the bus windows there was nothing but trees for a few miles then suddenly the view broke way to a huge house with what looked like tent cities on either side of it. 

“Well, that’s creative.” Seth said, looking at the tents. 

“We’ll be in a cabin behind the main house I believe.” I told him. “All pack leaders have one while the rest of their pack will be in the tents.”

“Hmm, okay then.” 

“First things first Connor, find Nikki and get things settled. We can’t have you worrying about losing her. I’ll walk around with you.” Seth stated.

“Thank you! Josh, please see to it that our members are all set and that they are comfortable with their lodgings.” 

“Will do. Good Luck.”

Seth and I walked off of the bus and went on a search to find the Blue Ridge pack. I know they were going through a lot, with having to see Carson again, but nothing was more important to me than finding Nikki and fixing things. Jackie said she’d help but I couldn’t wait for her. 

Thirty minutes later and Seth and I had run into five other packs and their Alphas. All of which I have an alliance with and meet up with once a month. They all seemed to talk about one thing, the only female Alpha...Nikki. I wanted to rip their heads off. Talking about my mate. But, I had to keep calm. I needed to find her and fix things...then hopefully in the future they’d all know. She’s mine. 

“Alpha Connor!” I heard someone yell out my name. Turning around I saw Hannah, Beta Max’s pregnant mate walking through a crowd, chips in hand. 

“What are you doing over this side of the tenting? Isn’t your pack on the other side of the house?” 

“Yes, it is.” I said to her.

“Why are you in the tents? I thought leaders of packs got a cabin. Was that a lie?!” Seth started to freak and I rolled my eyes at him.

“There are cabins for the leaders, yes. But Nikki and Max love camping...so here we are.” 

“You guys are staying in the tents?” 

“Yes, as long as Max can make our tent comfy enough for me to get my sleep, I’ll sleep anywhere. Plus Nikki is always so much fun when she’s outdoors.” 

“That’s good to know…”I said to her. “Any chance you can point me in her direction?” 

“Uh, i’m not sure I should.” Hannah said to me. “I’m being friendly, because we’ll I can’t shift and stress is bad for the baby. But that doesn’t mean I’m not fuming.” She said while popping a chip in her mouth.

“I know, but I need to let her know that it’s not what she thinks. That’s not my child or my girlfriend.” I began to plead.

Hannah stopped putting another chip to her mouth, “Then…who are they?” 

“This is a good one!” Seth said with a smile, and i just side-eyed him. 

“Well the little girl is my niece Lilly and the pregnant she-wolf is my sister Jackie.” 

Hannah’s mouth fell open and she dropped the chip that was in her hand. “Well shit.” She said. “Well, that’s something, isn’t it.”

“Can you help me?? I need to fix things. I won’t be able to last the week with her thinking what she’s thinking.” 

“Too late.” Hannah said, with a small smile.

“What do you mean? What’s too late?” I started to panic. 

“Nikki saw you guys wondering around and automatically thought that from your face that you were searching for her.”

“And?”

“And she sent me out here to intervene and I’ve been in mind-link with her this whole time. She heard everything.” 

The second Hannah was done saying that Nikki heard the truth I looked up to see a tent behind her open up and Nikki walk out. I could tell by her eyes she was happy, but she was still keeping her feelings in so no one else would know. I wanted nothing more than to take her in my arms and make her forget this whole misunderstanding.
