It was almost the closing hour at Gusteous Restaurant, Kaithlyn finally had a chance to chat with her close friend Victoria, fondly called Tori.
'Hey Tori, guess what happened at school today?' Kate said almost jumping with excitement.
'Uhmmn! You passed all your test' Tori replied smiling.
'Nope, it's totally far from that'
'So what happened then? Come on tell me,' Tori questioned getting impatient.
'Well,' kaithlyn said, looking around to see if anyone was watching, then moving closer, she whispered into Toris' ear. Toris' eye grew wide with excitement and surprise.
'You don't mean,' she said laughing.
'Yes, I do,' Kaithlyn said.
'Oh really! Tell me more, when, where and how? Be more specific,' Tori giggled.
'At school,'
'School? Did Vincent come to pick you from school?' Tori questioned looking puzzled.
'Vincent?' Kate said looking confused, her eyebrows lifted. 'What do you mean Vincent?'
'Well, I had always thought it would be somewhere more romantic, like the park close to your house, or your backyard maybe?' Tori said.
'Wait Tori! Do you think I had my first kiss with Vincent?' Kaithlyn asked smiling.
'Well yeah, if not Vincent then who?' Tori replied.
'That's gross Tori!! Vincent is like a brother to me,'
'I don't think Vince thinks that way,'
'What do you mean?' Kate asked not sure if she heard Tori right.
'Do you really not know or are you just pretending not to?' Tori asked surprised.
'Pretending about what?' Kaithlyn asked almost jumping out of curiosity.
'How do I put it? Well I think Vince loves you as a lady not as a sister,' Tori explained.
'Tori!!! Kaithlyn laughed 'you are being hilarious,'
'Am I? I could bet that he thinks that way from the way he stares at you,' Tori said.
'It's just a misunderstanding,' Kate said still laughing. 'Don't say that again,' she added.
'Alright, so tell me who is this guy and how come I don't know him?' Tori asked smiling.
'Well you wouldn't know him, he is a new student and a close friend at school,'
'And his name?' Tori asked.
'Richard, Richard Wilson,' Kaithlyn said.
Now laying on her bed and staring into the sky, hearing herself pronounce his name set butterflies in her stomach, she smiled 'I wonder how come, I have fallen for you in just a matter of weeks,' she thought as she closed her eyes to sleep.
Richard also laying on his bed staring at the chandelier hanging above him, he smiled, 'I wonder how I have become so enchanted by you, a low class girl despite all my escapades,' he thought.
'It really must be fate,' he said as he fell asleep.
************
'Do make sure you are back before 6pm hon?' Mrs Wilson said to Richard who was having breakfast already dressed for school.
'Why?' He asked with an eye brow raised.
'Are you pretending not to remember or you actually don't?' His Mom asked looking puzzled.
'Mom! You know I wouldn't be asking if I remembered,' he said sipping his tea.
'Well, I had told you the Peterolli's would be coming for dinner today,' she said.
'Oh that!' Richard said sarcastically.
'Now you remember, so make sure you are back home early,' she added.
'I'll try,' he said as he stood up and grabbed his bag. 'Have a nice day mom ,' he said and made for the door.
'And you too dear,' his mom replied smiling at him.
He was about getting into the car when he turned around and went back into the house. 'What's wrong?' His mom asked as he came back into the house.
'Nothing, I just forgot a note in my room ,' he explained. 'I came back to get it,' he added as he ran up the stairs leading to his room. He got in, picked up some bunch of keys, when it seemed he had found the one he wanted.
He got out and locked the door then put the keys in his pocket and went downstairs to the car. 'Why did you go back?' Jack asked as he started the car, pressing a button to open the gate.
'To lock the door to my room,' Richard answered.
'Lock the door? Jack giggled. 'Why would you do that?' He asked confused.
'A dog would be coming around today and I don't want it in my room since I won't be at home,'Richard explained.
'A dog!!!' Jack exclaimed laughing.
'Mom said the Peterollis would be coming over for dinner, and that includes Nicole, and I can't stand eating on the same table with her,'
'So you won't go home early?' Jack asked.
'Yeah! I won't,'
'Won't your dad be angry?'
'No, all I have to do is say something urgent came up at school, like a project and I need to get some information at the library,' Richard explained.
'Aren't you such a good liar?' Jack teased.
'Yeah, whatever,' Richard giggled as they drove off to school.
***********
As kaithlyn came out of the house ready for school, she cited Vincent by the gate. 'No need to hide from him,' she thought.
'Hey Vince,' she called as she walked up to him.
'Hi kaithlyn, so how are you doing today?' He asked smiling. He was wearing a white polo on a black jean coupled with a leather jacket.
'Yeah, uhmmn about yesterday, I was just stressed out,' kaithlyn answered.
'And the scar?'
'Well I really did slip, I could be clumsy at times, don't you think so?' She joked.
They both laughed, 'so how about today?' He asked.
'Well I'm cool as you can see,' she answered.
'I actually wanted to tell you something Kate,' Vince said as his face lit up.
'What is it?' Kaithlyn asked with inquisitive eyes.
'Well I got a job,' he said grinning.
'Wow! Where?' She asked smiling, she was really happy, Vincent was through with high school but couldn't afford to go to college yet, so he was seeking for a job.
'That's a surprise, you would soon find out,' he said.
Kaithlyn frowned a little, 'when?' She asked.
'Sooner than you expect,' he replied.
'You should be off to school now, you don't want to be late,' he added.
'I am never late,' she said and started walking away. 'Have a nice day, see you later at noon,' he said as he watched her walk away.
'Yeah, and you too,' she said waving her hands walking backwards.
'She's all grown up now,' Vincent thought as he relieved old memories of how they had both played together while in primary school. He smiled and walked in the opposite direction down home.
***********
One could have thought it was planned but it was actually a coincidence as kaithlyn walked past the park, Richard walked out, so they saw each other.
'Hey Katy, what's up,' he said as he walked up to her. 'Oh hi Richard, I am cool and you,' she said avoiding his gaze.
'You are not avoiding my gaze today, are you?' He asked jokingly.
'No, I am not,' she said confidently and looked him in the eye, but a blush appeared on her cheek as the kiss replayed in her mind. She tried using her hands to cover her face, Richard giggled and so did she as they both laughed.
Most student were yet to arrive so the school was still empty. They were both walking down to their classrooms.
'So how was your night?' Richard asked.
'Great and yours?'
'Not so good,'
'Why? Kaithlyn asked worried.
'Before going to bed I had thought about you and wished I could see you in my dreams, but I didn't,' Richard explained.
Kaithlyn looked at him smiling, Richard then moved closer and removed the bow holding her hair. As her hair came flowing down, he stood and watched.
Kaithlyn was surprised as she used her fingers to tuck her hair behind her ears.
'Why did you do that?' She asked.
'Don't pack your hair to school again,' Richard replied not really answering her question.
'Why?' She asked again.
'You look more pretty with your hair down,' he answered.
'What's pretty about it? Its not like it's curled or styled,' she giggled.
'Yeah, it's natural, that's why I love them down,' he replied.
'Okay, can I have my bow back?' She asked.
'No, I am keeping this,' he said putting it inside his bag. They both smiled as they walked to the class, kaithlyn adjusting her hair which now flowed down her bags.
**************
'Good morning dear,' said Mrs Peterolli to Nicole who was still in her night wear , sleepy eyes and rumpled hair.
'Morning mom,' she replied grabbing a jug of water. 'Where were you yesterday evening?' Her mom asked. 'I waited up for you till 9pm but you still weren't back,'
'I went shopping with the girls and then clubbing,' Nicole answered.
'Nickey, I have always told you it's risky to be out late,' her mom complained.
'Alright Mom, I wont come so late again,' she assured her mom.
'Well, make sure you come home straight from school today,'
'Why?' Nicole asked.
'You remember the Wilson, we had invited to dinner?' Mrs Peterolli asked.
'Yeah of course, what about them?'
'His wife called and invited us for dinner obviously to sign a contract deal with your father,' Mrs Peterolli explained.
'You don't mean it?' Nicole said excited.
'I do, she also said she would send a car to pick us up, I heard Richard goes to school in a Limo,'
'Yeah he does,' Nicole answered.
'Wow! Girls must really flock around him, right?' Her mom asked with a raised eyebrow. 'No, they don't or rather they would I'd he actually had an eye for them,'Nicole said.
'Meaning?' Her mom asked again.
'Well he's only hot eyes for Kaithlyn and obviously hates me,' Nicole said raising her shoulders.
'Wait!, is it the Kaithlyn I know?' Mrs Peterolli asked.
'Yeah, the one you know,'
'What does he fancy in her?' She asked.
'I thought so too, and told him that on the first day at school, now he hates me,' Nicole said.
'She could have seduced him you know, he's rich and his money would be beneficial,' Mrs Peterolli said scornfully.
Nicole laughed, 'you might be right Mom, I had not thought of that,'
'But you have to get on his good side,' Mrs Peterolli said with a tone of seriousness.
'What should I do?' Nicole asked.
'Apologize to him, you know he just might listen,'
'Maybe, okay Mom, I need to get ready for school,'said Nicky as she made for her room.
***************
The day at school was going on smoothly most especially for Richard who obviously wasn't paying attention to the teacher.
'Richard!' Mr Cornwell, the biology teacher, a young man in his late twenties, a genius in biology you could say, a lot of girls had a crush on him, called.
'Yeah,' he answered looking surprised.
'What was the last thing I said?' Mr Cornwell asked.
'Well, the last thing you said was obviously the last thing you said,' he replied boldly.
The whole class roared with laughter, they could use a little humour, They were discussing the topic Transport system which was quite complicated.
Mr Cornwell sighed, 'Try to listen, Richard,' he said.
Of course Richard tried listening but yet distracted, he was actually staring at Kaithlyn who was jotting down some points on what was being discussed.
Her hair seem to fall across her face, so she had to use her hand to tuck them behind her ear, she could have tied them back up but Richard won't return her bow.
Kaithlyn could feel someone was watching her so she turned to Richard. 'Why aren't you listening?' She asked him.
'I am trying yo but I just don't get what he is saying ,' Richard said in defence of himself. 'What exactly do you not understand?'
'Everything' he replied.
'Everything!!!' Kaithlyn whispered with wide eyes.
Then a thought struck his mind, he had been thinking about what hwlw was going to do while his parents had dinner with the Peterollis.
'Hey Katy, what are you doing after school?' He asked. She smiled and answered, 'why do you ask?'
'Would you be free ?' He asked.
'I am never free after school till 9pm,' she answered.
'Why? What would you be doing?' He asked again.
'You know Mr Cornwell is still in class, you don't want him calling you again do you?' Kaithlyn joked.
'Yeah of course,' he said sarcastically.
Kaithlyn chuckled and wondered if Richard ever listenes durning class. The bell rang and Mr Cornwell was out, so he asked again.
'I work at the Restaurant,' Kaitlyn answered.
'Till 9pm?' Richard asked surprised.
'Yeah , till 8pm actually but I get home 9pm,' she explained.
'So I could see you at the restaurant, right?' He asked.
'What do you mean see me at the restaurant?' She asked.
'Well, I won't be going home early after school, and I have got some things to tell you,' Richard explained.
'Things to tell me, what could that be?' She thought.
'But I would be working,' she said.
'I know how to deal with that one, so are we good?' He asked.
'Yeah sure,' she answered.
'So it's a date then,' Richard said jokingly.
'A date!!!'
'Yeah a our first date actually and I am guessing it's really your first,' Richard said. Kaithlyn blushed and turned to her books, she wasn't going to answer that but Richard probably knew the answer.
'She is so innocent,' He thought as he smiled at her.
