A night of freedom

1837 Words
After a few days of the same routine of going to work, coming home to eat and sleep before doing it all again, Kerry finally had a week off. Excitedly she packed her things getting ready to go and stay with her best friend Marissa for the night, Marissa had been her best friend for nearly 15 years, she was beautiful with her long dyed blonde hair, dark blue eyes that would shine like lapis lazuli, sun kissed skin and with a similar small but curvy build as Kerry. They had met during school and after one day they knew they had formed a bond that would be hard to break if it ever could be broken. They met at a point where both of their fathers were absent in their lives and they both knew it was better off that way. They would sneak out as teenagers and drink in skate parks, bowling alleys, fields and in each other’s houses when their mums had gone to bed. Kerry and Marissa often laughed now about the mischief they caused as children, while they got ready for their nights out. Kerry smiled to herself as she finished packing all her potential outfits for their night clubbing, her pjs for when they got back, make up and all her other essentials, then she made sure to set a coffee up for Liam for when he got home from work and set their dog, a black German Shepard called Fenrir, up in his bed with a new juicy ham bone, calming music on the radio and her dressing gown, he loves lying on anything that she’s worn recently. Kerry then grabbed her phone and purse and left the house ready to jump in the taxi she had ordered only minutes before, she hadn’t seen her friend in so long she could bare to wait the amount of time it would take to use public transport, the £45 pound taxi journey was worth it to get that couple of hours more with Marissa. After nearly an hour of exchanging pleasantries and small talk with the taxi driver, a nice balding man in his mid forties, Kerry pulled up to Marissa’s house and practically leaped out of the car with her bags. Before she could even shut the taxi door behind her Marissa ran out of the house squealing and they jumped into each others arms, both laughing, crying and jumping with excitement. “Sooo, how’s everything with Liam going?’ Marissa asked, waggling her eyebrows while she poured them both a glass of rose. “Yeah, we’re good thanks! What about you? Any luck on the dating front?” Kerry teased back, her friend had had real bad luck with men since becoming single a couple of years ago and she would of felt awful moaning about their distance to her. “Wellll” her best friend paused looking shifty, Kerry had an idea of what was coming, “I started talking to Bobby again” Marissa finally admitted sheepishly. Kerry just laughed as she knew the minute she saw that sheepish look, Marissa always seemed to drift back to speaking to Bobby even though he was an accident waiting to happen, he was in prison for yet another robbery, so they only spoke through letter and on the occasion he could get hold of one, on the phone. Kerry knew it wouldn’t be long before Marissa would have enough of his crap again and would cut him off. Again. The two young women kept catching up about their lives, as they got ready together, both working around each-other comfortably as they had done for many years, while Marissa curled her hair, Kerry did her makeup, then Marissa would do her makeup while Kerry straightened her hair before they both tried on their chosen few outfits, eventually they would mix and match each others clothes even though they both had completely different senses of style. Marissa was a girly girl through and through, she loved having her nails and eyelashes done, pretty dresses and play suits, usually matched with a pair of heels and a cute blazer jacket. Kerry on the other hand, was more alternative, she would usually wear either shorts and a crop top, jeans and a nice top or rarely a playsuit if she found one she liked enough, her nails and eyelashes didn’t bother her that much, she would match her outfits with either black converse or a pair of boots covered with studs, chains and buckles and would have a comfortable hoody with zip up pockets for comfort while she smoked and while they walked from bar to bar. Once ready they smiled at eachother in satisfaction, Marissa had an off white playsuit on which was low cut, showing off her breasts which were a couple of sizes bigger then Kerry’s, a pair of white chunky heels and a colourful blazer jacket. Her foundation matched her tanned skin beautifully and she had done her eyebrows a dark brown, she had done a black smokey eyed look with a pop of silver at the inner corner of her eyes, of course she had false lashes and bright red acrylic nails, and red lipstick, her blonde hair now curled bounced around as she gave her best strut through her front room as if she was on a cat walk. “Woowooo you go you sexy thang” laughed Kerry, watching Marissa show off her finished look. The two bottles of wine had really kicked in now and they were both feeling tipsy and ready for the walk to the first bar of the evening. “Oooo I really like that outfit Ker! That’s definitely the one!” Marissa exclaimed as she watched her friend do her own cat walk strut throughout the house. Kerry was wearing black leather look short shorts, showing off the tattoos on her legs, with a black strappy cropped vest which had straps that wrapped around her waist. She was also wearing her favourite black boots with the studs, chains and buckles on and had straightened her purple hair but had put it into two braids either side of her head. Kerry had a belt on her shorts which had chains hanging off it and connecting at the back of the shorts and a thigh chain that had a silver snake dangling down to her mid thigh. She had chosen thick winged eyeliner and had done her foundation, a touch of pink blush and also had her eyebrows a dark brown. Kerry threw a comfy zip up black hoody on top but left it unzipped and they were ready to party. The familiar walk to the bars and clubs was something Kerry and Marissa enjoyed weirdly enough, they enjoyed catching up and watching the world around them as they made their journey. Once they got to the right part of the town, a small seaside town, they came upon the street they were heading too, it was a busy pathway with clubs either side and their favourite late night pizza place in the middle, there were other streets adjoining it with bars and clubs on, but this was the Main Street they visited on a night out. People were wobbling up and down the path, or gathered outside the bars smoking and chatting, the smell of smoke, alcohol and fast food lingered in the air at the start of the path, it was dark due to their being no street lights but the lights from the clubs illuminated the path with neon reds, greens and blues. They had gotten a little table in their favourite bar and had gotten their drinks, Marissa had a vodka and lemonade while Kerry had a steamboat (southern comfort and lemonade with a dash of lime), the two girls were laughing without a care in the world talking about their ex’s, memories and things related to s*x that they had come across online. “Let’s go dance girly” Marissa squealed as she grabbed Kerry’s hand and dragged her onto the dance floor. “I love you so much Marissa” Kerry laughed as they reached the dance floor and danced against each-other, grinding and sashaying their hips to the music. A few drinks later and a few dances later Marissa was dancing with a man she had met a few moments ago at the bar, his friend had tried to dance with Kerry too, thinking because his friend was dancing with her friend, that Kerry would be a sure thing. “Oh Thankyou but no Thankyou! I’m actually spoken for and just enjoy the atmosphere” Kerry had told him as he came over and tried moving with her to the music putting his hands on her hips. “Well what he doesn’t know…” the tall stranger said to her as he continued trying to push his luck. Kerry took his hands off her hips and turned around to face him, “no means no asshole” she deadpanned as she turned and walked to her friend who was busy chatting and giggling with the man she had been dancing with before. Kerry giggled to herself as she took in his appearance, Marissa really did have a type, he was tall and skinny with bright red short hair, he was wearing dark blue jeans and a black T-shirt and was smiling down at Marissa while she giggled up at him. “Hey babes, I’m going out for a smoke, you okay in here?” Kerry checked in with her, Marissa nodded “do you want me to come with you hun?” “No your alright Rissa, just checking in” Kerry turned to the man Marissa was with “ oh and your asshole friend needs to learn the definition of no by the way” she had said it in a half joking way, with a slightly raised eyebrow but a hint of playfulness in her eyes. The man laughed and Kerry walked outside into the cool crisp air for her cigarette, the clubs here were only a ten minute walk from the beach, if that, Kerry loved the smell and feel of the sea air. She sat on a small wall opposite the club and took in the people walking past, clinging to their friends, boyfriends and chosen men/women of the night as she smoked. She watched groups of men and women walk past all laughing and looking for a good time. Security guards standing outside the club doors up and down the street with their arms crossed, their big torsos and arms but noticeably smaller legs, the thought made her giggle as she imagined them like a cartoon, puffing themselves up until they popped like a balloon. As she people watched around her and kept glancing in the club window to see her friend still chatting away with this gentleman, Kerry couldn’t help but feel that peculiar feeling you get when somebody is watching you.
