The Fall
Aerabella let Prince Jax lead her around the dance floor, her sage green dress fanning out around her. Her red hair shifted over her pail shoulders as he spun her in circles and lifted her off her feet. It was her 14th birthday, and they had just found out she was to marry him when she came of age. They could think of no better choice. Aerabella and Jax had been together since they were small, loved eachother since they were small, and now they would be together until they grew old. Aerabella couldn't smile any more if she tried. She was having a wonderful night, in a beautiful gown, dancing with the boy she loved.
A loud bang echoed in the hall as her father slammed the handle of his war hammer into the ground to get everyone's attention. Excitement filled Aerabella as she knew it was time for the announcement. She squeezed Jax's hand tightly as her father, the king, called the two of them to the throne.
"As you all know, today is our dear Aerabella's 14th birthday. But we have some even better news. I wish to name her as my heir. She will one day be your queen." The king looked pointedly at his daughter. Aerabella was floored. This, she had not been expecting. She always thought the throne would pass to her brother. "I belive there is one more matter at hand," the king shifted his steel blue gaze to Jax, "Prince Jax my son, if you will." Jax began to kneal before Aerabella her green eyes locked with his golden brown ones and she smiled down at him. As Jax's knee hit the ground all the doors slammed shut and everyone looked around confused.
"Father?" Aerabella asked in confusion towards the king. He gazed around the room as he rose to his feet. He had strong broad shoulders which he squared up as he raised his pale hand.
"What is the meaning of this?" the king asked "Open the doors!"
The guards refused and lowered the locks. Jax stood and wrapped an arm protectively over Aerabella. He looked frantically around the room for his own family his dark hair started to fall out of place as he nervously ran his fingers through it. The kings other three children acended to their places in the throne room and the king called for everyone to quiet. The room went quiet for only a moment.
That's when the screaming started.
The guards eyes were glazed over. A yellow haze clouded their vision and they were clearly not in control. They took their decorative pikes and began murdering the people one by one. the screams were horrid. People ran every direction. The king gathered his family close to him. Aerabella held Jax's hand and wrapped her free arm around one of her little sisters, her little brother held the other.
In the panic no one noticed the guard who targeted the king. The guards pike burst through the kings chest and blood sprayed over the children. Next to go was Jax. His hand went slack and he collapsed to the floor. Aerabella watched as her whole family was ripped from her and there was nothing she could do.
As the guards started to come out of their trance. they started killing eachother to try and stop the guards still under the spell. Just before the guard was about to stab Aerabella his eyes cleared up, but his momentum carried him forward and the blade ran through her chest before he fully came back to himself.
"No!" she heard him gasp. Then everything went dark.
..............
Everything was dark and quiet but Aerabella could feel a warmth growing inside her body. It continued to grow until it was so hot she felt she would burn. Surely she wasn't dead, right? Then what was this heat?
