Chapter 9

Meeting Itallia and Benton

Captain Voss and Lieutenant Grayson were called into the office for a meeting regarding an inmate and a woman appears in the room and introduced herself as Itallia mason and what her position was, but Maya didn’t care. She looked at this chief and said she wanted Itallia on her team and this chief, like all of the others, knew what to do. Itallia went through the same process as the others, but that wasn’t the end. Next came in Benton and once again, Maya wanted him also. She was intrigued by them both and knew they would be good teammates. Grayson and Maya introduced Benton and Itallia to the rest of the team, and they seemed to fit in without an issue.

The team was steadily coming together, but they were still missing two more men on the team, but Maya realized that she had five women already, and only three men. It shouldn’t be much of a challenge to find two more guys for the team. Maya knew why she was only picking certain people, but so were the other captains. They all had their reasons behind it. However, what Maya didn’t expect was to develop feelings for Rylynn. Rylynn has barely looked at her over the last three months but was sneaking glances at her. As Maya sat in the SUV on duty with her team, she was thinking about how much time was left, five months…five months to find two more to complete her team. As she began getting lost in thought, Grayson tapped her shoulder to inform her that they had made it to the grocery store where there was supposedly a disturbance. As they made their way into the store, many people stopped to look at Captain Maya Voss.

Maya made a name for herself; she was well respected but also feared. Maya could step out of her vehicle and all cars would stop, not knowing what she was doing. Some had witnessed her abilities with weapons and her sense of knowing when danger was around, and it wasn’t to be reconned with. Maya scanned the store looking for what the danger was and locked onto a very angry man who looked ready to explode at any moment, police officers were there and she walked towards them. When the officers noticed her, they stood at attention immediately. Captain Voss! They said… They quickly began explaining what was going on and that the man at an angle to her was causing a scene, according to others inside the store. The man she would learn to be Jonah Hale, would soon become a member of her team. Jonah looked at them and said he wasn’t going to be rushed by impatient customers because he was trying to count his change properly to ensure that he had the right amount.

Nowadays, the rising costs have affected so many people, even though it has been steadily dropping. Maya looked at Jonah Hale, then at her lieutenant. Grayson knew just by the look on her face what was about to happen. Grayson handed Jonah a card and told him where to report tomorrow. Jonah went to object, but when he saw the look on Captain Voss’s face, he knew it was a losing battle. Once everything in the store was taken care of, they left. Jonah went through the same process as everyone else on Maya’s team, and she learned how smart he was with technology, he had combat skills, but a former marine would have those skills.

One member short – the captains

Maya sent a message to her team, to start without her today, and left to go meet up with the other captains. Maya had grown close to them, but they all grew close together. They met up at a local bar and sat down discussing their teammates. Maya looked at Arcadia and asked if she found out more about this “Bonding”. Arcadia did find out more information, and in exactly two days, the captains and their lieutenants would be called to pick out certain rings to be crafted.

The bonding

Because of the lack of relationships, families and children in the world, the government came up with an idea to see if it works…It is called the bonding, they thought starting with the captains and lieutenants would be a great test trial. So what happens is they will pick what rings they want, how they want them to look and if they want it to be two woman, two men, one woman, three men, or all women. Basically you will bond with three others to form a relationship that will be completely legal. As Maya listened, she already knew who she wanted…She wanted Jay, Kane and Rylynn…there was no doubt with how she felt, but with the bonding, all parties have to be completely willing. However, once you are bonded, you are stuck with those that you choose for the rest of your life, there is no way out.
