Chapter 4

The car ride back to Emrys’ land was a silent one.  Sabrina was silently crying, staring out at the forest zooming past them.  Emrys was sitting beside her, considering the fact that he has mate.  “A mate.” He scoffed to himself.  “I didn’t want nor need a damn mate.” “But we found our other half.” His wolf, Elias, returned.  Emrys rolled his eyes.  Great.  Now he’s arguing with himself.  “I know that Elias but we don’t have time for her.  We need to focus on whoever attacked Rhett.  We are doing fine leading the pack without a mate.” Emrys tried to reason.  “She can help us.  I have been talking to her wolf and they are stronger than anyone thinks.  She is determined to find the person we are after as well.” Elias argued back.  “Look at her! She is a petulant child! Sitting there crying in silence, not saying a word.  She questioned me in front of others!” Emrys raged.  “Chimera, her wolf, told me that it is because she was not allowed to go see her mother. Sabrina can also sense that you want her to be Luna in name only.  She was not given a proper farewell by her pack to signify your acceptance of her.  And we both know that you wouldn’t actually think of giving her a proper reception at home.  She was disrespected in front of her old pack, and in an hour, she will be disrespected in front of her new pack.  They will be told that she is the Luna, but they will still look to Crystal instead of our mate.  All because you don’t want to accept that we have a mate.”  Emrys wanted to kick himself.  Of course, she was mad at him.  What kind of moron was he?  He didn’t give her enough time for any kind of proper goodbye.  She had tried to get him to stay and he had refused her the opportunity to say goodbye to her mother because of his own selfish want to get back to his brother.  To make matters worse, she could sense that he wasn’t truly accepting of her.  He was so consumed with her disrespecting him that he didn’t realize he was disrespecting her.  Emrys let out a sigh and turned to Sabrina.  She wasn’t crying anymore.  Her face showed no emotion.  “Sabrina.” He said.  She turned to look at him.  His breath caught in his throat.  Her sapphire eyes were blazing with anger.  “I’m sorry.” He began.  “I was thinking of my brother and not of you.  I should have said yes to us staying with your old pack one more night so you could have a proper send off.  I am not use to women having a say in official meetings.  I would not have included you in that one, but my wolf, Elias, didn’t want to let you out of our sight.  I have to be honest and tell you that I didn’t want a mate.  I wasn’t looking for you.  Rogue Moon has done beautifully without a Luna for some time now.  That being said, I will make sure to do better in the future and I will make sure that you have a proper reception when we get home.”  Sabrina said nothing for a moment.  She was fuming.  She knew that Chimera had been talking to Elias, telling him things Sabrina had wished he didn’t know but she wasn’t about to deny Chimera the pleasure of talking to her mate.  The humans didn’t want to be together, but the wolves did.  “In all honesty, Alpha Emrys, I wasn’t looking for you either.  I didn’t spend my time pining for you, or wondering where you were.  I was too busy trying to find out who attacked my mother, and being the acting Luna to my pack.  You didn’t just disrespect me as your mate, you disrespected me as an acting Luna.” She retorted.  “Am I correct in understanding that as your Luna I will not have a voice when other Alphas come to visit? I am not to question you at all when you give orders, even when they may be disrespectful to the visitors and you don’t see it or don’t seem to think about offending anybody?  I am gathering that I am to be your Luna in name only which means there will be no marking going, so any outsiders will not know that I am yours and not to be touched?  I am to be a silent female only saying yes Alpha when you bark out an order?” Sabrina had started out calm but with every word her temper was getting closer and closer to exploding.  She had heard rumors that the women of the Rogue Moon pack were merely decorative to the officers.  That they simply did the housework and left everything else to the men.  It was a very backward and ancient tradition.  Sabrina was too outspoken to bite her tongue.  Especially if a visitor tried to be insulting to one of her pack.  She wasn’t the type to sit at home and knit.  She was a warrior for Goddess sake. Emrys looked only a little shocked.  “Yes, you have the way of it.  Though I can already tell that it doesn’t sit well with you so I will make this one concession.  You may give me your thoughts and opinions only behind closed doors.  I will not come to you for advice or counsel, but if you happen to over hear something, make a note of what it was and we will discuss it later.  Also, if we have a visitor and I do make the mistake of appearing disrespectful, without cause mind you, then you have my permission to SUBTELY, correct the situation.  However Rogue Moon does not get many visitors so I don’t see that being an issue.  Other than that, you may go about your day as you would normally.  We shall stay out of each other’s way and present a united front when we need too.” Emrys directed.  He was proud of himself for making the concessions he did.  He didn’t have too. “Don’t forget to warn her about Crystal.  She won’t like it but she needs to know.” Elias reminded him.  “Shit.” Emrys muttered.  Emrys cleared his throat. “There is one other thing.  There is a she-wolf that fancies herself the acting Luna.  I have not corrected her, simply because she makes sure that I am not bothered by things that are easily taken care of.  I will correct her today and let her know that she is defer to you, that you are my mate and Luna and are to be treated as such, and that she is to help you with anything you need help with.”  Sabrina narrowed her eyes at him.  “Are you telling me that the position of Luna is so beneath your notice, that you are so high above such things that the SACRED position of Luna was given to a random she-wolf? Was she sharing your bed?” Sabrina hissed.  “There have been times when Crystal has shared my bed yes.  I had other matters to attend to, matters with my warriors, that took precedence over who was in charge of the pack house and mundane matters.” Emrys answered matter of factly.  “You have no idea what it takes to be a real Luna.  I would bet that your precious Crystal doesn’t either.  You do realize that by allowing someone else into the position of Luna, you have made it to where your true Luna will not be respected or listened too?  Crystal will not vacate the post just because you have found your mate.  You have silently given her permission to take the position of head female in your pack and your pack will see her as such.  They will not care who I am.  They may follow your orders but you have made my job even harder.  It would seem, Alpha Emrys, that you have been disrespecting me for much longer than just today, and by association, the Goddess Diana.  She made mates, and Alphas and Lunas for a reason.  Your attitude spits on the solemnity of who and what we are.” She said in response.  Emrys just stared at her.  No one had ever dared to speak him in such a manner.  He paused to think before saying anything else.  Crystal had done a fair job acting as Luna.  He couldn’t find any fault there.  He really didn’t it was that big of a deal.  “Look at it from her point of view.” Elias muttered.  Emrys thought about what Sabrina said and tried to imagine if she had been left in charge of her pack and had allowed someone that was not her mate to act as Alpha.  He was immediately angry.  He sighed again.  “You are right.  I don’t know how I will make this up to you, my Luna, but I will.  I should never have disrespected your position in such a way.  I will speak to Crystal myself, then to the pack.  And if that does not satisfy you, then please think of ways for me to make this up to you and I shall do them.” He said in a low voice.  Sabrina considered him for a moment.  His words just now took all the bluster out of her sails.  “Alright.  We shall see how it goes Alpha Emrys.” She nodded.  “It’s just Emrys to you.  You are my Luna after all.” He said with a smile.  Sabrina blushed.  “Very well.”   Sabrina was sitting next to Emrys, facing the window.  She was doing everything in her power to ignore him. His wolf, Elias is sweet.  He has been apologizing for Emrys’ rude behavior.  He says that it is tied to his worry over his brother.  Rhett is the last living member of his family and if something happens he wants to be nearby.   Emrys hasn’t had it easy since he took over.  The rumors about him aren’t all true. I don’t care.  It hasn’t been easy for us either.  We didn’t even get to tell mama goodbye.  Who knows when we will be allowed to go home?  We just met and he has already started disrespecting us. I am going to keep talking to Elias.  I want to tell him all about us. Chimera sounded so excited.  It made Sabrina smile. Just a little. I’m glad that he has better manners.  Just don’t go revealing everything right away.  I would rather we got to know them better first. Before Chimera could respond, Emrys spoke.  “Sabrina.” He said.  She turned to look at him. She was stunned.  Not only was she not going to be included in the goings on of the pack, he didn’t want her.  Fine. Two could play that game. “In all honesty, Alpha Emrys, I wasn’t looking for you either.  I didn’t spend my time pining for you, or wondering where you were.  I was too busy trying to find out who attacked my mother, and being the acting Luna to my pack.  You didn’t just disrespect me as your mate, you disrespected me as an acting Luna. She was getting ready to retort to him when Emrys cleared his throat. She got that he wasn’t looking for her, didn’t even want a mate, but to be so disrespectful?  She was starting to think that rejecting him would be the better option. “Very well.”
