N-Never let your guard down

1822 Words
Nightfall came early as it was long. It was beautiful to see everyone adapting so well to their new personas in their human forms as the pack gathered around the bonfire. The aura around our camp was peaceful as we all thrived together as a family. Elliot one of the eldest wolves in the pack sat at the head of the group on an old rotten log as he recalled a few old wolf tales filling us with laughter. We sat together under the red moon as it hovered above us just enjoying one another's company. Getting to know one another. Willow was the oldest wolf in the pack surviving at the age of 113 years old. She and her mate Orian 110years old had been around for ages living up in the Alaskan mountains. Together they had five kids one set of twins named Takari and Kota then had Farah Jon and Abe. All Alaskan tundra wolves with grey fur coats so their wolf frames were much smaller than the rest. Kota and Takari, the twins were brave honorable soldiers whose main focus was always on the good of the pack so they never stopped training. They were by far my favorite. Every time I looked over one of them was being flipped as the other did some wild move like running up a tree and flipping off of the other, It was something straight out of a circus with these two. Kota was the serious one and his brother Takari was the funny one always clowning around trying to get a laugh or some attention but both were equally as strong, Kota was the cuter version with his serious eyebrows hiding under his long brown dreaded mane. He would drive all the young she-wolfs crazy all day long as he just leans back against a random tree twisting at his locks in deep thought. Even id sneak a look or two his way but the time for cute teen crushes was way over for me. I was a princess now, but more importantly, I was their leader. And a leader does not find time to be in heat no matter how much he heats up the spot in between my thighs each time he works out. thankfully Onyx was always around to keep me focused on training and planning or id get nothing done. Spirit and her mate Ronald sat on one of the logs surrounding the bonfire as they cuddled together under the stars listening to the stories together. She was happy with her mate and as young, as she was she seemed to know what she was doing so I couldn't be too worried about her, Her mate was 12 years older than her and it bothered me but who was I to stand in the way of the moon goddess and her plans. Spirit was 14 and in wolf years that's almost 70. Wolf rules were different than the rules I was used to. I was even more lonely now that she wasn't hovering around us as much as she used to but we all had to find our mate eventually, goddess knows what id do if Onyx found his. He was my rock my shield my best friend and I wasn't ready to lose him too. Not yet. Deciding on joining in on the fun I walked over to where Onyx was sitting and sat next to him on an empty spot at the end of the log, I looped an arm in his joining them together as we sat and listened in on Wilma's story. She was telling the pack her story of how she and Orian met. Everyone was really getting into it up until Onyx clutched my arm and said. "Someone's coming," Onyx said as he gripped my wrists tightly. I was inclined to believe him on account of the fact that Onyx held one of the strongest pairs of ears I've ever encountered. I heard it too. Soft footsteps crunched the leaves as they crept towards us from all sides. I could smell them everywhere, we were cornered. The one time I thought it was safe to let my guard down we'd been found out and now we were being ambushed. But was it too late for me to get ahead of this? I wondered as I listened to the footsteps zeroing in on our location. "SHHhh!.." I whispered letting go of Onyx as I jumped to my feet, Everyone was quiet and still awaiting my next command. "No, please...Don't stop the party's only just begun" said the unknown Lycan who lurked out of the darkness surrounding the trees standing on two legs in his Lycan form. The wolf was tall and muscular built with black and white war paint spread all over his face chest arms and legs. He stood tall towering above his Lycan followers as they stood behind him ready to attack. They were truly naked other than the rags and stripped animal skins they had draped across their bodies providing cover for their nether regions. These Lycans seemed more savage than domesticated and I really wasn't sure how things would play out but I was ready for blood. The Lycan alpha stepped closer out into the moonlight and I stepped in front of my pack showing him I'm willing to die protecting them. The Lycan alpha flashed me a playful grin as stretched out his claws while flashing his canines at me. I guess he thought id be scared. Because the moment I pulled forth my Lycan and stretched out my claws leaping forward as I swiped at the air before him warning him to back off. The Lycan alpha looked shocked. Like as if he didn't think there would be a fight. He backed up a little as he bent over reaching down to grab at some dirt before he shot back up to his feet tossing the dirt in my eyes as he lunged forward to attack. I was blinded immediately but I did not panic. A wise wolf once told me I needed to close my eyes in order to focus on the true power of awareness. If I shut my eyes and focused then I would no longer need my eyes to see. As my wolf hearing intensifies giving me the ability to see without my vision but to rely on my many other senses to truly see what my eyes cannot. That wise wolf was Onyx, and he was a great trainer and a very wise wolf. Had it not been for all his constant training and worrying I would have never been prepared for this moment. When the dirt coated my eyes all I could do was squeeze them shut as I pushed the burning sensation aside and focused on the sounds of his heartbeat as he rushed in for the attack. I reached my arms out snactching his Lycan out of the air as he unsuccessfully tried to kick me in the head. He fell to the ground giving off a hollow thud as I wiped the debris from my eyes. His soldiers rushed in behind him yelling as they charged past me toward my pack who was already shifting and preparing for the fight. I threw a kick to his left side torso and it connected as he let out a high-pitched whimper. I could tell he was embarrassed to be getting his ass handed to him by a girl but he kept charging me for more. He came rushing at me like some damn linebacker tryna score a touchdown because the moment he was close enough to gain the confidence to take me down I spun around dodging his touch as he toppled over trying to regain his balance. He nearly fell over trying to hit me but I was just too quick for him and it was pissing him off. He let out a loud roar out of frustration. Then he stood positioning his form to charge at me again this time I grabbed his neck with one arm wrapping the other around his throat as I pulled him into my arms putting his Lycan into a headlock. The Lycan began fighting against my strength but it was already too late I had a pretty tight hold on him and I wasn't letting him up. He struggled in my arms a bit trying to nip at me as I glanced back at my pack to see everyone engaged in battle. The Lycans outnumbered us by three. And it seemed Onyx had us covered as he took on all four Lycans surrounding him. Spirit and her mate fought back to back as they took out a few Lycans on their own. He began trying to wiggle and mauver himself out of my grasp but I had a solid hold. Eventually, the struggle ended as I heard the Lycan say. "Mate?" the Lycan alpha said as he struggled to get the word out. I immediately let go as he dropped to the ground quickly. The Lycan looked at me with his big deep dark eyes as a bright light twinkled in the deep dark brown orbs in his eyes. "Mate". My lips spoke without even a thought behind them betraying my mind. His eyes lit up as he stood to his feet invading all of my personal space as he sniffed at my face. I sniffed him back and his scent was so potent I'm not sure how he was able to mask it before. All I could smell was the fresh smell of rain on his coat and a hint of dry blood. Smelled like he'd been in the forest hunting forever. Glad he said it before I snapped his neck, a few more seconds and things would not have been pretty. Everything ended pretty quickly as it started awkwardly as it now was, it didn't make much sense fighting each other anymore. At this point, we were all just staring at each other confused not really knowing what we should do and where we go from here. I stared at my mate as he stared back at me just taking in all of his features and details. He was handsome under all that war paint as well as he was built from his head down to his toes. Being practically naked under the sheet of fur draped around his waist left very little to the imagination, a part of me couldn't wait to explore. But first, I needed to know his name. Felt like my heart might burst if I didn't find out. All these new thoughts and feelings were rushing in and I knew a lot of it had to be coming from my Lycan. She was excited to be mated but a part of me was scared and I didn't know exactly why just yet.
