Helenas pov:
We ran together side by side, each challenging the strength and speed of the other as wolves can't help but do. Onyx was big and his muscular frame was definitely intimidating, sure, but all that weight slowed him down. He was no match for my Lycan speed, so I never had to honestly use as much energy as he did. Running for him was more like a sprint for me. Spirit was small like a coyote, but she was fast and full of energy like she had her own motorized engine or something. Spirit was running around in circles around onyx as she constantly nipped at his tail trying to play with him. I thought it was cute but I could feel Onyx's emotions of anger bubbling over from the side of me, even if his face didn't show it, he was grumpy. She was still a pup after all and Spirit had some more growing up to do. I decided it was best we settled down and camped out in the clearing under the stars before it got any later. Onyx agreed as we all spread out, picking a spot to lie in. I lay in the middle with Onyx's golden brown wolf no more than three feet to my left and Spirit's light gray wolf lying to my right as she tucked into a balled-up position. I stayed in my Lycan's form through the night to keep me warm as we camped out. The longer I stay in my Lycan form, the wilder I feel. It's almost like the forest and I became one. I could hear this low voice traveling in the wind as it whirls through the trees softly calling out to me. And as the days went by, the need or desire to shift back into my human form just seemed less and less likely to cross my mind. The two of them made me feel more alive out here in the forest than I ever did as a human and that was a big part of why I felt so free. There were days when I wished for this... when it was only just a dream. Now that I had my wolf, it felt familiar like I'd always had her. If I had never met Onyx, I would never have unlocked my wolf from the chains holding her from me. I don't know why it took me so long, but now that I have her, I will be who I was meant to be. Being in the wild for so long was starting to have its effect on me as I no longer cooked my food. Not while we were traveling in this form I was a real wolf just like the others and when we got hungry, we hunted together and whatever we caught we killed and ate together. Right on the spot. Spirit liked Possum meat. She got up in the middle of the night every night for a late-night snack. Onyx was a deep sleeper, so he rarely woke up when she'd sneak off for a hunt, but I, on the other hand, had that great Lycan hearing. And woke up each time she took off. Maybe it was my alpha instinct or something maternal, but I always had to wait up until I knew she came back. She'd been gone ten minutes now. And the past four nights we stayed there, it only took her five before she was trotting back to bed stinking of possum blood. I lay there with my eyes closed under the light of the moon as I searched for a feeling of her through the depths of my mind. I couldn't connect to her and immediately I shot up with panic.
"ONYX!" I screamed through the link. Scaring him awake.
Onyx jumped out of his sleep looking in each direction on alert.
"Huh?! Oh, What is it, Princess?" Onyx linked me.
"Spirits gone! Something is wrong! I ca...I can't feel her." I told him.
Onyx stood tall on all fours, now fully awake and alert. We immediately went off sniffing out her scent on the ground as we went further into the darkness surrounding the trees looking for her.
"SPIRIT!" I howled out to her as we grew further into the dark.
My nocturnal vision worked well under the moonlight, making it much easier to see where I was going. Onyx was zipping past tree by tree sniffing her out like he was on a mission. It would be almost hard to keep up with him if it hadn't been for his golden fur reflecting off the moonlight. I stayed behind him, keeping up as best as I could, as I tried to link spirit again. Still, no answer, and I was beyond worried. My anger started to peak through and as much as I tried not to, panic had already begun to set in. Suddenly, Onyx came to a halt, stopping in front of me, standing stiff as his tail stood up along with the hair on his back.
"What? What is it, Onyx?" I asked him but for a moment he said nothing at all, just stood there staring straight ahead.
"ONYX!" I screamed, waking him from his trance.
"We have company princess." Onyx finally spoke. Never once looking her way.
"Where?" I asked him as I raised my claws and prepared for their attack.
"They're everywhere," Onyx answered in a hushed tone.
"SHOW YOURSELF!!" I roared out my demand in my alpha tone. Turning to the trees surrounding me, making sure I covered all angles.
Onyx dug his paws deep into the dirt as he stretched out his claws. I too adjusted my stance, readying myself for a fight as I extended my canines and began to pull a deep growl from within my chest. It vibrated through the air as it echoed around us.
I shut my eyes and listened deeply, focusing my power on all the sound waves around me within a five-mile radius. I was able to dissect each sound, allowing me to distinguish roughly fifty-six to sixty-three wolves and their heartbeats surrounding us. I wasn't able to pinpoint the exact amount as I was still pretty new to the power. But I know an ambush when I see one.
Wolves began peaking out behind trees one head after the other. I have never seen so many wild dire wolves. It was definitely a sight to behold. The largest one in the group approached while the others stalked us from behind the trees. Each waiting for a signal to attack. The large wolf was all black with thick fur and his ears stood tall, poking out at the sides of his face. The black wolf walked right up to where Onyx and I stood as he sniffed around at our scents trying to get a lock on my aura. My scent was un-naturally strong. He walked up to Onyx sniffing at his snout before he turned away in disgust as he passed him by, following after my scent and began sniffing me out. The black dire wolf got all up close and personal as he leaned over and stuck his snout in the crook of my neck, inhaling my scent. Once he had it, the wolf backed up as confusion showed all across his face. He looked up at me as if he couldn't believe his eyes. And then he turned back to another wolf behind him, giving him a nod, and soon as he did, they began to howl one after the other, lifting their heads to the sky. They howled at the moon in unison. Each wolf howled behind the other until suddenly all of their attention was back on me. The black wolf looked back at me with a sad look as he came closer again. He dropped low to the ground as he positioned himself to bow at my feet. I didn't know what to do at that moment. I was mostly shocked until Onyx's voice popped into my head.
"It's Okay princess. You have nothing to fear. It's a show of respect from one leader to another. The wolf has given up control of his pack, passing it on to you. Do you accept?" Onyx's voice projected into my mind.
"He's giving it to me? But why?" I asked.
"Because they know just who and what you are," Onyx said, passing on some wisdom.
Helena reached out her left hand, resting it on the top of the black wolf's forehead just as she did with Onyx and Spirit before. As she closed her eyes she was suddenly pulled into a new vision, something she had never seen before. As she opened her eyes all around her she could see the grass so green and healthy just growing all around her and the trees were big and wide and just so full of life as the branches swayed so effortlessly in the breeze. Helena stood there admiring the beauty of nature until the sound of laughter distracted her. She turned around, making her way past the trees to find out the source of the joyous sounds of giggling she had heard and when she got close enough she was able to see children laughing and playing in the middle of a meadow, just three kids chasing one another around while blowing dandelions. Two boys and a smaller girl. She smiled at the sight of true happiness as she stood in the sun's warmth just watching them play when, out of nowhere, a black wolf appeared stalking out of the trees towards them. He slowly began stalking closer as he kept low, trying to blend in with the height of the tall grass. Helena screamed, looking out, but no one heard her. She was jumping up and down waving her arms trying to get their attention, but it was too late. The wolf jumped up, grabbed hold of the oldest boy as he threw him to the ground, and ripped him apart. The other boy ran to grab his sister as they both tried to flee. But the wolf ran past them just to block their path. The boy pushed his sister behind him as he tried to fend the animal off. The two were screaming so loudly in horror that their screams alerted another wolf. But this wolf was all gray and a lot smaller. The gray wolf leaped into action as he came running out of the forest. He darted over the children landing right in front as he lunged at the black wolf. The two wolves began battling to death as neither of them was going to back down. The black wolf bit into the gray one's neck, causing blood to pour down his neck, staining his fur. The gray wolf tried nipping at his neck but the black wolf dodged just in time. The children ran for cover as the wolves fought it out. The large black wolf flipped the gray wolf as he lunged toward him for another failed attack. Causing the gray wolf to crash into the tree behind him. The crack of his bones shattering as he broke his back against the trunk of the tree echoed throughout the woods. The gray wolf let out the saddest, most heart-breaking whimper as his body hit the ground with a thud. I could only stand there horrified as I watched but couldn't intervene. The black wolf stood over the gray one's body as he forced his body to transform. When he has fully formed into his human body the black wolf who I now realized was a werewolf the whole time stood over the body as he stretched out his claws fully morphing his hands before he reached down grabbing a hand full of the wolf's head and holding it by the fur as he sliced his claws through fully decapitating the gray wolf. He stood up again as he went to turn and walk away while carrying the wolf's head away like his prize. His villainous escape was interrupted as soon as he heard the gasp come from behind a tree in the brush. I turned to see what it was that grasped his attention and that's when I noticed the little girl had returned without her brother, she was behind me to the right standing there frozen as she stared at the bloody dripping wolf head in the hands of her brother's killer. And in that instant, I was able to truly see the face of the man standing there before me. It was Jonas The Roman's alpha standing there with this Feral look about him. Jonas's eyes were dilated as they looked through me and locked onto the little girl. He let out a gut-wrenching roar as he bore his teeth kicking his left foot back before taking off in a sprint toward the young girl. He was on her in an instant as he snatched the small child up in the air by her pretty pink shirt. The sudden wave of Deju Vu smacked me right across my face sending me flying backward onto the ground hard. I fell hard knocking all the wind out of me as I flipped onto my stomach trying to get up on my knees and hunched over as I grasped my stomach and dry heaved trying my hardest to regain my breath. When I looked up they were gone and the vision had ended. I was right back in the forest surrounded by trees and wild wolves. I was choking but it was getting easier to breathe slowly as I forced myself to my feet again. The realization set in and by that time I already knew just who I was and what the supernatural world needed from me.
"I AM HELENA SNOW PRINCESS OF WOLVES AND MASTER OF THE SEASONS! I POSSESS THE POWER TO CONTROL WOLVES, MAN, ANIMALS, AND ELEMENTS! I HAVE BEEN GIVEN THE POWER TO CREATE LIFE FROM MY MOTHER JESSICA ANNE SNOW AS WELL AS THE POWER TO END IT.! I AM THE HEIR AND ADOPTED LONG-LOST DAUGHTER OF KHAL JUREON KING OF THE FOREST. THE FIRST AND OLDEST DIRE WOLF TO EVER RUN THESE WOODS LONG BEFORE ANY OF US WERE EVEN BORN. I AM NO LONGER LOST YOU SEE, THE PRINCESS HAS RETURNED! AND WITH A VENGEANCE!!." Helena declared.
All the wolves around her began to howl in celebration. Every single wolf in the crowd was ready to follow her every command and would fight alongside her risking their lives in battle all for her cause. Now, this was true power.
"TOGETHER WE WILL CHANGE THE NARRATIVE, WE WILL NO LONGER BE FORCED INTO HIDING AND HUNTED FOR SPORT! OUR PUPS ARE TAKEN! AS PETS AND PRESENTS! NO MORE! WE WILL SHOW THE WORLD WHO THE REAL WILD WOLVES ARE! THOSE WARE WOLVES HAVE CORRUPTED OUR EARTH FOR FAR TOO LONG PLAGUING OUR LANDS WITH INNOCENT BLOODSHED AND MISERY AMONGST THE HUMANS AND BLAMING THEIR CRIMES ON WILD ANIMALS. I'M SICK OF THE LACK OF LOYALTY AND RESPECT FOR THE MOON GODDESS AND MOTHER NATURE HERSELF! IT'S TIME WE PUT THINGS RIGHT." Helena yelled as she projected her voice reaching through each wolf's mind as they listened.
(AWWwoooooL) Some wolves howled out in agreeance.
"YOU HAVE A CHOICE TO MAKE MY FRIENDS... YOU CAN CHOOSE TO JOIN ME AND FIGHT OR YOU CAN CHOOSE PEACE AND FOREVER HIDE OUT IN THE WOODS LIVING LIFE AS YOU ALWAYS HAVE, BUT FOR THOSE WHO WANT TO STAY I WILL SHARE WITH YOU MY POWER GIVING EACH OF YOU A HUMAN COUNTERPART SO YOU TOO CAN WALK AROUND FREELY IN MAN'S LAND WHEN WE PASS THROUGH." Helena promised her followers as she paused giving them a moment to think it over.
A small gray wolf walked out from the back as others moved to clear a path for her to make her way through, as she grew closer I could tell it was Spirit coming to join me. As Spirit grew closer I could smell something about her scent was a little off. I sniffed at the air around her to gain some clarity when I realized she smelled like she had this musky stench clinging to her fur. I looked at her confused as my head tilted to the side and she blushed.
"Alpha I've met my mate," Spirit said in between blushing.
"Really! I'm so happy for you Spirit!" I congratulated her.
"And Alpha My mate and I stand behind you all the way!" Spirit told me as she bowed, the black dire wolf rushed to her side and bowed along with his mate.
"We all will follow behind you," Onyx said speaking for the whole pack.
(AwooooouuuuuL) One after the other heads tilted back toward the moon as we howled together as one pack all of us for the first time. I raised both arms to the sky closing my eyes as I tapped into my power. The pullback from the power was overwhelming as much as it was draining me of all my energy. The sky began to lighten up in some spots as the clouds began to appear rolling in from all directions the wind swarmed through the air yanking at the trees sucking them back as if they were in a tug-of-war with the ground that held them. My hair began to blow back in the breeze flying off my neck and exposing my skin to the cold air. I could hear the many frightened voices and their thoughts swirling around in my head as my pack members experienced my power. Pushing the voices and emotions aside so I can remain in control and focused, I distributed just enough through the strength of our bond into each and every member of my pack. all sixty-eight of us. I gave each wolf the ability to shift into a human when needed giving each of them their own identity, one to fit each of their personalities, I gave them the ability to speak in human tongue. Now that everyone had evolved It was time to teach my pack how to do a reverse shift. It wasn't too hard to figure out really it was the opposite of what every werewolf was learning. Teaching them to shift was a test in itself. Onyx was the most stubborn really he just kept insisting he was better in his wolf form than as a vulnerable human. He like many of us feared death but what he said he feared worst was dying as a human. He says there's no honor in it. We've settled deep in the mountains overlooking the entire roman territory as we trained. I had to get these wolves as domesticated as possible so we can fit in as humans on the human side of town. But teaching them not to act like wolves when they are just made no sense. I wanted them to be wild. I mean just look at them now, everyone is happy just being around each other. Living off of the land mother nature and the moon goddess herself created for us. We were a family out here in the forest. We had no desire of living amongst the humans or taking their homes, we just wanted to live without being hunted and pushed further and further into the forest just to make room for human and werewolf towns. Spirit suggested we send in a few wolves as humans to infiltrate the Roman's pack house we huddled together as we planned out every last detail. I was Planning on sending out a team of eight and putting our plan into action tonight. Tomorrow is finally the day when vengeance will be mine!
