Into The Woods

1227 Words
Rushing through the snow-covered forest slush and soggy leaves beneath her feet with every step she took, the slush splashing up and soaking the pantleg of her dark blue jeans caked in mud and Goddess knows what else. Jessica Snow knew she couldn't stop, not even for a second, to catch her breath. Her human form wasn't as easy or equipped to run a long distance like this. To make matters worse, her skin-tight Blue Jeans and Black trench coat definitely weren't the right attire for a late-night run through the harsh winter snow. And the bundled-up newborn fast asleep under her right arm didn't help much either when one needs to make a fast getaway. But tell that to the dozen wolves giving chase just a mere 4 miles behind her. She couldn't give up. She had to keep going no matter how tired her legs were. As you know, a mother will do anything for their child. So she pushed through, making her way through the thick snow, getting smacked in the face by low-hanging branches while looking over her shoulder. But she had to keep going, for Helena's sake. She just had to get her farther away or at least far enough from danger. Luckily, the fresh snow falling was enough to cover her tracks behind her, or those wolves would have already caught up to her by now. Jessica ran as fast as her legs could take her, trying her best to avoid slipping or falling. Nearly tripping over a log in the middle of her path, when she had an idea. Dropping to her knees, kneeling over the fallen tree, she began digging up the show on one end of the log as howls filled the air alerting her that the enemy had finally locked onto her scent. Resting Helena, still fast asleep, down on a fresh pile of snow. Jessica morphed her right hand, allowing her extending claws to grow just long enough to hollow out the fallen log from the back end., she began digging at the inside of the log, shredding all the wood inside just deep enough, pulling the access shredding out behind and around her. with the enemy getting closer a splinter was the least of her worries. Satisfied enough with the now hollowed-out end, she picked up her sleeping bundle, brought her close to her lips, then planted a sweet goodbye kiss on her warm soft skin, interrupted by another bone-chilling howl as the enemy grew closer. She knew time was running out for her. Jessica saw no other choice. Taking just a second more to wrap her soft plush blue baby blanket with the embroidered letters H.S sewn in just at the bottom of the blanket, over her bundled-up princess once more before she proceeded to slide her gently into the log as quickly and quietly as possible. she then stuffed the remaining shreds of wood into the bottom of the hollowed-out log to keep Helena warm during the cold night ahead of her. Standing at her feet, she began her shift. Shifting into a large light brown wolf, retreating into the forest the same way she came. Darting through the forest straight towards the danger awaiting, she made it out a mile and a half before she decided to stop and begin marking the trees going in the opposite direction from where she laid Helena. it was the only way to ensure she'd be safe. squatting down on each tree she passed marking her territory like a dog in heat. spreading her sent to make a decoy trail for her hunters to follow. howls growing closer and closer hot on her trail "it's working!" Jessica thought to herself as she continued to run through the snow-covered woods. finally, she decided to stop running and bring her wolf to a halt. hoping if she stayed and fought she just might gain the upper hand. she stood there waiting staring in the direction in which she came. she knew it would take them a minute being that their wolf speed couldn't possibly keep up with her in Lycan form. she waited for a whole fifteen minutes before the first wolf emerged out of the darkness. at first, all she could see was his two bright yellow eyes coming towards her with this hungry look surrounding them. Jessica took three steps back then planted both back feet hanging her head real low preparing to attack. She noticed the wolf was alone with the others a little further behind. The wolf stepped closer, trotting out deeper into the moonlight, giving her a clear view of his physique. He was a large all-black wolf, very big for the normal werewolf species. stalking her like prey as he began to circle Jessica's wolf, looking for the best angle to perform his attack, causing Jessica's wolf to shift around circling as well. the black wolf stopped right at the side of her neck on the right-hand side giving away his plan of attack. "stupid wolf" Jessica thought. then the Black wolf began to charge right at her jaws wide open teeth fully extended as he snarls leaping in mid-air. Jessica dodged his attack whilst snatching him right out of the air biting him under his unguarded neck he mistakenly left exposed . sinking her teeth deep into his fur breaking the skin, she locked her jaw and began to shake him from left to right until the blood pooled her mouth. tossing him to the floor and into the path of a small grey wolf sneaking out from behind the trees. winking at him just to show just how much she enjoyed the kill. The grey wolf grew angry and began to charge her without any thought behind his attack. She dodged that one too catching him in her mouth biting down into his neck just as the wolf before him. Only this time she was so busy having fun she forgot to be alert. Three wolves came up behind her all attacking at once. the first wolf bit down on her leg causing her to yelp in pain dropping her opponent to the ground before she could snap his neck. The second wolf bit down on her tail causing her to swing her body around to face the third wolf who then widened his jaw biting down on her neck. Blood started to pour out of her as the wolves continued ripping her flesh apart. Causing Jessica to fall to the ground her body going limp with each bite. The very last thing Jessica saw was the very same grey wolf she spat out hobbling over before he too bit down into her neck as more wolves stalked out of the woods and leaped on top of her. Losing so much blood so fast she was in and out of conciseness as they tore her apart. She knew it was over her fight came to an end. She came to an end, closing her eyes for the very last time. "Goodbye Helena!, I'm sorry!" she howled one last time before she gave in to her injuries. The wolves continued ripping her from limb to limb as if her death wasn't enough to satisfy them. dragging her away in pieces. strutting off into the woods with their piece of the prize.
