Chapter 1 Ivy's POV. Fear. Uncertainty. These were the only emotions that ran through my heart. I was next in line to be the Alpha of the Night Haven pack. My fate and that of my mate, Donald, would be decided by the Elders of the Night Haven council. By right, he is to be the Alpha of this pack after all this, but the Elders and council had placed me in such a condition which would either make things better or perhaps worse. The coronation of the next Alpha comes up in 2 days and that means I had to up my game if I wanted this to come true. I sat in the garden trying to get my head cooled off, and my nerves calmed when a call from my sister Ashley came in. “Hello sis, how is it?” “I'm fine Ash, thank you, how are you?” “I’m good it's good to hear your voice again. Won't you be coming to the event I told you about?” “Yeah, of course I would. I think I should go and have myself ready in a couple of minutes.” “Yeah, that's going to be fun, just go get dressed and meet me downstairs at thirty, I'm on my way.” “Alright, thanks so much.” I hurried down to the mansion and realized I felt so tired even going to the event with Ashley. Well, I decided I had to go because I had promised her weeks ago that I was going to make it this time around. I climbed the stairs in fatigue while my eyes flashed through the portraits that were on the wall. While I climbed the stairs I heard some noise. At first, I felt my head playing a game with me, but as I drew closer to the room, I discovered it wasn't fiction or Mirage, it was actually reality. I walked slowly to the door and then, in shock, I saw no one but still heard the moaning coming from that very spot. In curiosity, I moved in and opened the door. It was a great shock to me to realize that it was no other person but my bestie, Mira, and right in front of her was my mate, Donald. They were about to have s*x and kissed so dearly that they failed to realize I stood behind them for as much as 10 seconds before Mira turned to see me and in shock threw me off. “Excuse me, what is the meaning of this?” “Oh, Ivy, what are you doing here? I thought you were to be in the garden? It's not time for you to be here. What's happening?” “Are you being serious right now? Like that's what you have to say?” “Oh come on Ivy, it's just a kiss, it's nothing more, why are you being so…” At that point, I didn't even know what to do. I became so angry and agitated that I decided I would pick up a fight with both of them, especially Mira. I couldn't believe my own best friend could do such a thing to me. Even if men on their own were something else, at least it's understandable to some extent, but Mira being the one my mate cheated on me with? Nah. My best friend? One whom I even talked to last night, and we laughed and played and had fun like besties, and yet she is kissing passionately before my man? Who knows how long or how many times they have had s*x without me knowing? “Stop that Ivy! Are you out of your mind? Stop it at once!” I bent my head to understand why she was furious. I'm the one who was hurt. “I'll make sure I teach you a lesson, get your hands off me, else I'm going to put you on my score list!” “Really? Do as much as lay your hands on her, and you will see what I am going to do. I am trying to explain this to you. You are the one I love and not her. Try to understand this.” Donald blurted. I was too shocked to speak. “Donald, you must be a fool for saying this, aren't you ashamed of what's going on now? Aren't you trying to see what you're doing? You're cheating on me right before my very eyes and with this daughter of a b***h who calls herself my best friend! Didn't you realize we have a mission before us as a couple? You promised me you're going to help me and find out the cause of my family's curse. Now look at what is happening right with my very eyes. You know I have no intentions of doing something like this to you and yet, you couldn't even consider me as your mate. You tried this, and you've made me look so foolish. Well, I've seen what you are capable of. I am going to make this a mission on my own and I will make sure I take care of it.” “I think you're getting things all wrong. You have to relax, you need to see things differently. I want you to know that no matter what happens you are always going to be the best, but what you are seeing here is a misconception of what your head is trying to do with you, Ivy.” I couldn't understand the rubbish he was spilling. Was he trying to say I was delusional? Likeee, I just caught you cheating on me bruh. I felt pain, betrayed. I felt like I had just imagined what happened right there before my eyes as a dream. Donald couldn't even apologize, rather he only defended himself. All he cared about was his ego, his pride, nothing more. I turned to see Mira lying so quietly on the bed half naked, she must be enjoying this, and I knew if I hadn't been there on time, they would have had at least two or three rounds. Maybe he thought I had gone out before but I didn't. **The Alpha's Successor Coronation** Today was the day we'd been waiting for. I knew it was going to be me or him. I was in my room trying to figure out the dress I would put on to appear before the pack and the rest of the crowd who would come from far and near to witness the coronation. But never did I realize that would change. I tried to reach out to the door to see if my maidservant was able to get me my lining, but before I knew what happened next, an unknown figure from behind came and had me strangled by my head and had a handkerchief right in my nostrils then I fainted. I realized that I was trapped in a cave where everyone was masked. They circled me. I didn't know what to do because that was going to be a day when my fate would have been decided as being the Alpha or not. The elders may be waiting for me, perhaps, waiting for me to show up and be crowned as Alpha, but, never did I get to realize the enemies had a different plan. Everywhere was dark except for a small bright light which shone from a portion of the window hanging up. It didn't take too long before I heard one of the men mutter. “Welcome boss.” I decided to balance the lights shining through my retina since they flashed a bright spotlight at me. I didn't know the source of it. Maybe a vehicle or perhaps a very big, powerful LED light. To my surprise, I saw a figure walking right before me on the other side of the bar. It was hours after the coronation. They removed their masks and, lo and behold, standing before me was my mate, Donald, and beside him, my bestie, Mira. “You see how life is? See how you ended up? I told you to have patience with me, and you couldn't. If you had listened to me, I would have made you my Luna.” “To hell with your leadership!” I cursed. I was so disappointed at what he had to say before me. I was very annoyed. Maybe my wolf could have helped me, but at that point. I knew I was helpless. “You will die here today, and I will make sure you rot here. I would make sure you paid for everything your family has done for me. Your family caused me pain, and I am here for a reckoning. I am here to pay you back,” Donald growled. I was taken aback. What was she talking about? That was when it dawned on me that the very person whom I had thought was an angel for years was a demon behind my misfortune. I knew I was going to die and yes I would die, but I only prayed to the moon goddess to give me another chance. I don't know, it's just my plea. I died after two days of infliction by the wolf's bane stirrup.
