Summer's POV
“Am I an item?” I asked myself. My gaze was on the King.
We have been his enemy since my step-dad was still alive. He looked determined to purchase me as if I was a commodity to him and his unbelievable prices made me gawk at him.
When our gazes met, he didn't reveal any emotions in his eyes. It was brief before he looked away, waiting for my sister's response.
And when she confirmed it, I was more than shocked at his condition. He owns me, he was saying that with pride.
No, I can't go with him. Only the moon goddess knows what awaits me if I agree to follow him. It would be better if I die here than to be faced with a fate I won't be able to run away from.
“Yes, my King. It's a yes from us,” Alan responded. It was as if the whole universe paused for a second. My eyes widened in disbelief as the King nodded, a man walked in between the crowds and whispered to the King.
“I asked you not to follow me,” the King clenched his words. I noticed that he gets angry easily. The man looked to be his royal beta.
“I'm sorry. I can't help it,” his response was low but I heard him.
“Follow him to get your payment. You,” he said to Gia before pointing at Alan.
“Untie her,” he ordered. Alan nodded with a bow and came to untie my hands.
“No, I can't go with him. Kill me, Alan. Look at me,” I pleaded, weeping so that he could hear me out. He didn't spare me a glance, my hands got freed and I fell on the floor with a loud thud.
“Please, I don't want to go with him. Kill me instead!” I tried to make my voice sound louder but my throat was itchy and rough.
The crowd began to disperse, my pounding heart increased its pace when he got closer to me. I moved backward on the floor before he crouched before me.
“You weren't this weak,” he muttered, his tone was gentle but firm. I swallowed my saliva fearfully, calling out to Skylar if she still had some strength that would take us away from here.
She didn't respond, and my vision was blurred by my tears. He wanted to touch me but I slapped his hands away carefully.
“Please, don't,” I pleaded. What could be his aim for buying me? We hadn't had any encounter before for him to wanna own me.
“Too bad, I bought you already. Get your *ss up and follow me,” he commanded. I continued to shake my head negatively, he stood up and I did as well.
“You shouldn't have helped me. Living with the burden of these false accusations isn't something that I can handle. Just let me go, please,” his gaze was on me for a moment before he looked away.
“Remember what I said earlier?” He asked. I furrowed my brows before shaking my head negatively.
“I hate repetitions,” he said with a glare, looking down at my dirty gown.
“Follow me,” he turned around and walked away. I tried to use that opportunity to escape through the crowds but I wasn't smart enough. He got hold of me before I could even take a step into the crowd.
He gripped my arms and I winced painfully. He looked furious and I regretted ever trying to run away. Without uttering a word, he dragged me with him as he walked at a fast pace.
I continued to scratch his hands to let go of me. His grip was so tight until we left the market. A horse was waiting for us already.
He carried me by my arms on the horse as if I was a mere sheet of paper. He sat behind me, pulling the reins of the horse as we headed to a place I knew nothing about.
**********
“Enough!” The King roared at my whining, throwing me inside a room and I fell on the bed.
“There is no way you are gonna escape from me. I bought you with my wealth and you should be grateful to me for saving your life!” He continued to roar at me. I buried my face in between my thighs, afraid to look at him.
“I didn't ask you,” I mumbled in a lower tone, raising my head to look at him. My eyes felt puffy, looking so red and my overall petite body made me look pitiful.
“You would have been dead if it wasn't for me,”
“I'm not scared of death. At least, I would reunite with my parents without feeling these pains,” I lamented. We held gazes and for the first time, his face revealed a flick of emotions.
“You have no idea how waiting for so long can be frustrating. Thinking about your emotions alone makes you selfish. Do you know how long I have….” His voice was rising with each word before he suddenly stopped.
He bit his lips angrily before walking out of the room. I stood up to lock the door hastily. My back rested on the door as I slumped to the floor. I continued to weep painfully. Why am I being punished this way?
My heart was filled with longingness, thinking about my parents and the beautiful moments I shared with Alan when he was still my mate. Even after what he did to me, I missed those moments when I had nothing to worry about.
I pushed his thoughts to the furthest corner of my mind, thinking about the new life ahead of me. A new beginning of my life with the King being my owner.
All my bones and muscles relaxed as I laid on the cold marble floor. I called Skylar a few times, but she didn't respond to me. My tears continued pouring out until my eyelids grew heavy, and I wandered into the Dreamland.
