CHAPTER5

Summer's POV WEEKS LATER. It's been two weeks since I arrived at this palace without stepping out of this room. I continued to drink lots of water, eat tissue paper, sleep and take numerous showers to wash the dizziness off my face. I walked out of the bathroom and slumped weakly on the bed. The king or anyone hadn't come to check up on me. It was as if he had forgotten I was here. There were different clothes in the wardrobe which I had been changing to for the past two weeks. Breathing heavily, I slept off again and hoped that I would wake up the next morning. Two Hours Later. Opening my eyes, my gaze went directly on the wall's clock. It was past 10 AM in the morning, not even afternoon. My stomach growled angrily, I sat upright on the bed and threw my head backward exhaustedly. I could feel Skylar now but she hasn't spoken to me. I stood up from the bed and went to take another shower, dressed into a fitted knee-length gown. I packed in a messy bun, standing in front of the mirror. It's been a long time since I saw my reflection, after spending a week without eating. I had lost some weight, so I stopped checking myself, and now, I have lost a lot of weight, coupled with emotional stress. Sighing, I went to unlock the door, turning the doorknob, feeling really nervous and anxious. I bit my trembling lips before exiting the room. I can't hold this hunger anymore. I was surprised to see two guards at my door, standing stationary. They tilted their heads to my direction before keeping their expressionless faces. Clearing my throat, “G-Good m-morning,” I greeted but got no response. I did again, but they continued to pretend not to see or hear me. I walked past them and they didn't stop me. Trying to do an introduction, I held back when I saw a maid. According to her uniform. I left the door and went to her, wrapping my arms around my stomach to stop the continuous growling. Due to the way I rushed to her, I bumped my shoulder into hers, and she fell on the floor. The peppers on the tray she was holding fell as well. I bent swiftly to help her pack them, “I’m s….” I was interrupted by her. “Are you blind not to see me going? Why did you bump into me?!” She fumed, surprising me at how she was overreacting. I snickered embarrassingly, “Girl, I was about to apologize when you interrupted me. It wasn't on purpose and I'm sorry,” I said softly. Her face looked flushed at the tone of my voice. She yanked the tray from me and I sighed, watching her do her thing herself. When she was done, she grumpily stood up and walked away. I followed her, assuming she must be heading to the kitchen. And she was. I entered, looking for something to cook. The maids were all looking at me without saying anything. My growling stomach disrupted the silence and I shut my eyes embarrassingly. About to pick up a pot, a hand stopped me. I wriggled my hands from the person's hold before turning around. A lady with heavy make-up, wearing a twenty-inch black skirt and a ten-inch top with no sleeves, glared at me dangerously. She was really taller than me because of the heels she was putting on. Her red hair was behind her back, she crossed her arms snarling at me. “What are you doing here?” She asked, as if she knew me. I could feel the surrounding air wasn't friendly at all. Why are they all rude? “Why do you ask?” I questioned. “You have no right to even…..” I interrupted her. “I don't know you. At least, introduce yourself,” I said calmly. She scoffed, flicking her hair backward. “I'm Jessica, Dominic's best female friend,” she responded proudly. So she calls the King by his name. I acted like I didn't hear the casualty in her voice. “Okay. I'm Summer, and I'm here because I was hungry. Can you leave now?” “No! You shouldn't have come out of that room. Just stay there and die in peace! Why do you have to come back?!” She ranted, looking all furious. “Please, be polite. We haven't met at all to warrant this kind of animosity from you,” I lectured. She didn't say anything and I was about to walk away but she pulled me by my wrist. I picked up the nearest pot and hitted it on her arm. “Ah!” She screamed, that was out of reflex. I can't try to be polite and still bear with her rudeness. “What's going on here?” The King entered. I froze in my spot when our eyes met. I turned to Jessica, dropping the pot on the floor and tried to apologize before running back to my room. “I'm sorry,” I mumbled. “You b*tch! How dare you hit me?” “I apologized already!” I exclaimed knowingly. “How about I punch you and apologize after?” Dominic asked, walking closer to me. I regretted ever trying to leave my room. “You don't know what happened so don't just jump into conclusion, King,” I said rudely. Amusement shone in his eyes when he heard me. “How rude?! Dominic, she has to be disciplined for acting rudely towards you!” Jessica said in a loud voice which was starting to annoy me. “Apologize to her, Summer,” he ordered. I was stunned to hear him call my name. “I apologized already,” “Don’t make me repeat myself,” he warned. “It's funny how you do what she asks you to do without knowing the depth of the story. She was the first to act rudely towards me,” “And all these wouldn't have happened if you hadn't left your room without my consent,” he said and I couldn't help but find his words stupid. Is that enough reason why I have to be blamed? I studied his expression before rolling my eyes. He was just handsome with no brains. I declared in my head.
