Claudette’s POV
I feel myself being pulled further down. I use my last bit of energy I have left in me to swim as hard as I can to the surface. I finally pop my head out of the water and gasp in as much air as possible. I see my way out. I swim for my life to the edge of the bank.
I slowly pull myself up out of the water with the help of a giant tree that has falling halfway in the water. I have no strength to stand up, so I crawl on all fours further away from the riverside. I want to get as far away as I can from the edge of the water for fear of falling back in.
I'm spitting up water for what feels like an eternity. Finally, I collapse on the ground, exhausted. I think I’ll just rest here until Julie finds me. Hopefully, it won’t take her too long.
Alpha Ace’s POV
I keep running, looking from the rapid water to the river bank side. There is no way she made it this far down. Why do I feel so helpless? I don’t even know this person. But for some reason, I feel like if something happens to her, I will be lost.
I must have missed her, or what if she didn’t swim to this side of the river? What if she is on the other side? I feel myself start to grow more restless with the endless possibilities when I finally catch a whiff of her scent. I inhale more profoundly, trying to figure out which way it is coming from. She can’t be much further down. I’m running as fast as my paws will go, jumping over falling trees, and ignoring the branches that are scratching my face.
Her smell is so strong I must be close. I slow down a little for fear of running right past her. I jump over a tree that is hanging some on land and some in the water. But I can’t go any further. This is it; I know it. I put my nose to the tree and ground, taking in her intoxicating scent. I follow my instincts but fear engulfed me as I see her lying motionless on the ground. No, I can't be too late. She has to be okay.
I quickly shift and run to her. I drop to my knees and pull her into my chest. She is soaking wet and already has cuts and bruises on her perfect tan skin. Her clothes have rips and tears in them. It also looks like she is missing a shoe.
Oh, thank goodness she is still breathing!
“What the hell do you think you are doing, creep? Let go of me!” She scolds as she punches and flails around in my arms, trying to get away. I let go of her. I guess it does come off rather creepy a naked man you do not know holding you in the middle of the forest.
Claudette’s POV
I awaken when I feel two strong arms pull in me. I expected to see Blake. But it is that mysterious man I met earlier. What the hell does he think he is doing. If he believes he will take advantage of me just because I’m resting from my near-death experience, he has another thing coming.
I bawl my hands into fits and start punching his chiseled chest as hard as I can. I’m trying to kick and fight my way free. “What the hell do you think you are doing, creep? Let go of me!” I yell at him.
He gently lets go of me and stands up. My eyes went over his glorious naked body before I quickly darting my sight elsewhere. I can feel my cheeks turning bright right for my shameless act. I look down at the ground and start bushing myself off. This way, I do not make eye contact with him. Hopefully, I can save myself from further embarrassment.
“Are you okay?” his voice sounded genuinely concerned with rather I was okay or not. Yeah, I’m alright. You know, out for a run and impromptu to swim. I say the last part in my most sarcastic voice. I do not look at him when I answer for fear of looking in the wrong places, or should I say the right places. I can feel my face getting hot again with the naughty thoughts that are going through my head. Geez, this is not the time for my dirty mind to wonder.
I take off my one remaining shoe that did not get lost earlier and start to walk back toward Alpha Blakes pack. “Umm, if you are headed by to Alpha Blake’s, you are going the wrong way. Alpha Blake’s is this way.” He says.
Oh, haha, I know that. I fake a laugh and start making my way back the way he said as quickly as possible, which is not very fast because I no longer have shoes on. I wince with every step I take. “Do you want me to carry you?”
No, I’m fine there is no need for that. “Don’t be stupid. I’m not going to bite. Besides, I do not think my brother will want his mate walking around in the woods after you almost drowning.” My steps slow down at his word. My mouth opens slightly, but my voice seems to have forgotten how to work. He takes my action as me agreeing to him carrying. I feel his big strong arms wrap around me as he picks me up bridal style, causing a small yelp to escape my mouth.
“See, it is not that bad. I will not let anything happen to you.” Mhmm. I lean in closer to his chest, allowing myself to relax a little. For some reason, I believe him. I don’t know if it is because I was in so much pain trying to walk without shoes or the fact that I’m still exhausted from earlier. Either way, I’m just going to go with the flow for now...
